5th Ludum Dare Attempt = My 1st Submission!!!

My very 1st submission!!!

I failed 4 previous attempts using C++/SDL , spending most of my time learning and building the Engine. I got fairly close once but nothing. I finally decided to start learning Unity as of last weekend so the past week has been my very first real games!

Pros:

  • First of all, I had a blast!
  • Started out with the basics, Start Menu with Options (Didn’t get difficulty working), Game Screen, End Screen and repeat
  • Focused on creating good Controllers/Managers
  • Once a workable game was complete, list features I’d like to add with priority.
  • Completing the items from the list (within the last 2 hours), such as saving High Score, displaying Health, creating sounds for getting hit, and adding Health Pick Up from fallen enemies.
  • Stop trying a certain feature from above when it was taking too much time to move onto the next one
  • Test playing at crucial times!

Could have done better:

  • More sleep leading up to the Jam
  • Learned Unity a lot sooner than starting a few days prior to the Jam
  • Started the Main Game sooner
  • Practice creating Assets
  • Animations

I got loot to work in the final hour but my Layers messed up so my loot weapon kept killing myself and when I offset it, it wouldn’t hurt the enemy so I scrapped that idea and just made it health pickups instead.  I wanted to get in more enemies and make them more random, along with bosses!! But I ran out of time so I’ll definitely continue this game to learn more and make it more complete. Overall, I spent pretty much all night Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday, and tonight for a total of ~35 hours.

Controls: WASD to Move, Enter to Shoot.

Hope everyone had a good time and enjoy playing other games! And I just hope at least 1 person can have some fun with mine 😀

Disappointment… Hopefully better next time

I felt extremely confident until a few hours ago when some code created a bug with the AI and health scripts and it just couldn’t be fixed. You can still play my game. It isn’t a full game, and it only runs on web… I am 12 years old, if you guys could play my game and rate it and give me some suggestions that’d be awesome. Link to my Game, thanks!

Snowball’s Chance

Done!

Snowball’s Chance is up now to play, and we got through the bulk of the things we wanted to, thanks to a frantic final couple of hours.

Chase

Got quite attached to the little fella…

You can play it here

Enjoy! – and let us know what you think!

Desktop Attack!!!! submited

We submitted our game for the Ludum Dare #32. Check it.

It’s for Windows only, we’re very excited for this is the first time we finish something (or at least make it playable) for a Jam.

It’s only one level, enemies spawn randomly, there is no scoring system but still I liked making it a lot. I enjoyed making it, being able of making something “playable”, and having a reachable objective.

Thank you, if you try it.

SUBMISSION PARTY WOO

pahrty

IT’S OVER! Three, long, sleepless days. Time for the post-submission party, and then time to go to work, and THEN time to lay down and die sleep.

Take a look at our game!

What went wrong:

Not enough time for good level design (besides the last one, which is arguably fun)

Sound effects are lacking

What went right:

Everything else, probably

Overall, a very enjoyable experience!

My second time participating

My game is called Popup Stick. Your weapon causes objects to fly straight up in the air. It does zero damage, but it can be used to indirectly to cause damage. My entry is http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=42281 .

popupstickldjam32a

It is a proof of concept and I will definitely expand on it a bit more in the future. I didn’t have as much time as I would like. It was my first time using physics to make things happen. I used Phaser game framework, Pyxel Edit, Brackets, and Texture Packer. Thanks for reading and playing.

Adventures of Cactusman is finished!

Pretty happy with how it came out!

It’s a sort of Roguelike game where you are a cactus with 4 legs and 2 arms and a face.  Don’t forget your sombrero!

This game’s unconventional weapon is at first, you.  When’s the last time you tried hugging a cactus?

Later on you find loot chests containing randomly made weapons with absurd names and types (Derpy Broomstick of Oolong Cows, anyone?) that can give you stats buffs or debuffs in addition to looking cool.

You can also use RMB to shoot a spine at mobs, but it uses SP (1 SP to be specific), or Special Power (probably, that’s what I call it).  Space gives you a health buff (health restored equal to your current level).

I won’t spoil the “ending”, but I will say you can keep playing afterward and keep descending deeper into the dungeon of Cactusman.

Play it and vote for it here!

Duck and Cover Forever! Now out in the public~!

So, this game is out~ And I hope you’d take the time to test it. Even though at parts it’s not complete, at least it’s a workable base. Most certainly that I will be still working on it.

Anyways…

Duck and Cover Forever! is a mix of Freedom Planet with a dangerous yet fun mix of Wonder Slippers and RUBBER DUCKS!

Take on the world of Phina as the powerful kicking, rubber ducking alpaca, Mable Leaf as she takes on to return what belongs to her and the world itself as the creatures of the spirit world invade and take a part of everyone’s souls called Empathions.

Collect Stars to power yourself up and take petals to refill your health! Take on Adukas, Grubs, Dragons, Raons and all different kinds of species as you venture ahead!

How long can you last without literally hitting yourself with a slipper?

PLAY NOW~!

And now with webplayer that work!

That’s what friends are for.

LDJAM First time experience

First of all thanks to the guys who had made this e = i formulae possible. GAME LINK

Six hours before start i am lying in bed going to sleep just doing the fb, suddenly i saw the post 6hrs to go for the JAM. I had nothing installed in my system and not ready since added new HDD, the OS is fresh. First thing created account with the ludumdare.com and analysed what tools and game engine i am going to use and went to sleep.

Woke up 30 minutes before and started downloading, installing and setup everything from unity5, obs, ffsplit, MagicaVoxel, inkscape, to updating graphics drivers. And creating a/c in twitch and other sites for video streaming. But nothing worked and after 1 hour of struggle figured out my bandwidth is the issue (only 1 mbps ).

I felt too much pressure as i did this alone. Had to drop some game play mechanics and had to go with simple and quickly created arts doing all this missing compo deadline hurt me a lot.

Lot of good people in irc helping each other for the gaming community. I will play as many possible JAM games and give my feedback.

From my experience this time is for a successful JAM you have to make quick decisions and proper understanding of yourself. Drop a feature, have a feature if time permits, spending some time on Game design.

Though not happy with the output after 72hrs, i have learnt a lot since this is my first experience. To say it simple i am returning to normal world now only, with all my clothes to wash and clean the house and throw out the pizza boxes and food parcels..

Will be back with more power for the next time.. 😉  Time 2 sleep like Zoro

Catch you guys later via @paruthidotexe,   http://paruthidotexe.blogspot.in

Yeah. Needing to drop features hurts. Dropping features and still missing the deadline… Well, I can only imagine.

We did it !

That was our first LD JAM and I have you say that it was GREAT !

We really enjoyed it and are super excited to present you the result.

SNIFF

SNIFF is a game in which you can use drugs on yourself or your enemies to get out of a crazy hospital ! But beware of side effects …

Go try it here : http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-32/?action=preview&uid=50857

We created all assets, 3D models, animations, sounds, scripts, level design, concept during the last 72 hours and we’ve been very ambitious with this game that could be widely improved but we strongly suggest you to try it because that’s a really insane experience …

THANKS !!!!

First Ludum Dare

Welp, it’s done.

Game screenshot

Unfortunately the game itself didn’t quite make it to where I wanted, especially in terms of incorporating the theme. Luckily, we made some good progress on our engine over the weekend and managed to crank out something for the jam which is probably not broken!

Myland – a propaganda game

So we made it! Our first game for Ludum Dare and also our first attempt at HTML5. After a bunch of head-on-wall-banging we decided to directly manipulate SVG created by our artist with Javascript and it turned out mostly well. Now all of you can mess with public opinion in a bunch of (completely fictional 😉 countries. I am pleased how the art style turned out, and kind of sad I couldn’t make the game more balanced. So, I hope you enjoy and leave feedback!

Going for 100 – Wave 1

Hey all! Didn’t post at all during the compo; just sort of had one of those nose-down weekends if you know what I mean. However, now that the dust has settled its time to make a little noise.

This competition, I want to make a point of rating at least 100 games. That’s right! One of the amazing things about this compo and the community is the ability to give in one way or another and this time I want to step up my judging game and give more feedback than I have in past compos. So in these “Going for 100” posts I want to spotlight a game, going by and picking from waves of ten games each. So without further ado:

Wave 1

And so it begins. I’m already through my first ten. Which game stood out among the rest for me?

Rhythm Gunner by DDRKirby(ISQ)

This trippy little game is quite the jewel. It can take a little warming up to, but once I found my groove it was a blast! Basically, you have to fire your instrumental weapons by keeping the beats. Each instrument has a different beat cycle and the only way to earn points is to run around collecting and swapping said instruments. Its something of an art… but a very groovy art. And of course, the audio fits very well, as it should. Highly recommend giving it a shot.

Congratulations to DDRKirby(ISQ) on a great entry!

Stay tuned for more spotlights to come. And if you haven’t already, give my game Turbo Moon Hero a go round as well. Thanks!
