LD35 April 15–18, 2016

First Game Jam

This is the first time I’ve really even known what Game Jam was all about. Awesome to see a community focused on improving skills over a short amount of time.

I’m going to be joining with a couple of my friends.
We will be using the Unity Engine for the engine.
Blender for creating 3D models
Substance Painter 2 for texturing
No clue about what we are going to do for music or sound effects yet. Audacity/bxr maybe.

Have fun everybody!!!

I’m in!

Hey guys, this is my first Ludum Dare (and my first actual game)! I’m mostly looking to get an accelerated development experience and try my hand at designing and developing a game prototype. Looking to use the following tools:

  • Atom
  • Phaser (HTML5 game framework)
  • Tiled (potentially)
  • Photoshop (for awful game art)
  • Illustrator (for UI design)
  • GarageBand (for awful game music)

I’m in !

But I’m not sure yet how…

Maybe 3D game with the unreal engine or HTML with Phaser.js ? Or maybe some 3D printed board game ? I’ll wait to see the theme !

But in every situation, I will always use Blender ! :)

Wait and see.

We’re in!

With a 2D game in Unity probably, maybe 3D, maybe 2D and in Java with lightweight game lib. We’ll see, but we are EXCITED!!!

Ready to jam!

Just some CS students from Stellenbosch gonna jam out a game!

Definitely Unity 2/3d
Blender, audacity and gimp.

My second LD. I got other things to do, so I will keep it simple this time.

I am excited about this. I already know my way around a bit better and earned some experience since the last Ludum Dare.

With final school exams coming soon, I can’t spend the whole weekend deving. So I decided about several things already. I am not going to use collisions this time. I had my game based on collisions last time in LD34, and it was cancer. I would really love to make a grid puzzle. They are quite easy to make, the main part is coming up with the idea. One of the reasons I am going to make a grid puzzle is that I suck at them, so I hope I can’t set the difficulty too high like the last time. It may be challenging to come up with a grid puzzle for some of the themes, but I think I will come up with something eventually.

Good luck everyone!

I’m So Ready!

So ready for Ludum Dare 35, regardless of what the theme turns out to be.

These things might have something to do with how well I do this weekend:

IDE: Eclipse Mars with Web Dev Plugin

Programming: JavaScript

Tile Editor: Tiled Map Editor

Graphics: Inkscape + Gimp 2

Audio: BFXR

Amazon Music for Jams

Im in

I’m in if my RSA goes away enough, it was pretty bad last year. I might do an explory game. My tools will be gimp, atom, phaser.js, and ableton live. The other two lds I made my own graphics engine so I’m hoping phaser.js will give me some more time. I might also try making all my functions global because Im stupid

Nan Is In

Or, at least, I’ll be trying my darnedest to be in!

This will be my first time competing in Ludum Dare, but I’ve been telling myself that I’ll compete for years now. My previous excuse has typically been that August is the beginning of a semester of school, and finals usually occur around December and April. However, that standard of American education (and my glaring lack of academic accreditation) probably won’t change for the foreseeable future. To give a game, certain excuses will just have to be tossed out the window!

My ostentatious goal is to compete with raw Javascript (probably using a minimal ECS library) and publishing the game via the browser; the likely reality is that “real” programming will be sacrificed for the sake of time, and that the old faithful Gamemaker Studio will carry me through. I was even considering using Java, it being the language I am most familiar with, but the increased accessibility of a browser game seems worth the effort. Certainly I’ll be avoiding libraries, simply because at this point they would just be another layer of unfamiliarity to overcome. Whatever the platform, simply submitting something within the 48-hour deadline will be quite an accomplishment. Here’s hoping that even a rough start will effect determination and consistency in the long run!

I’ll do what I can to set up a good workflow for recording progress, whether that be timelapsing or keeping a blog of some sort. Are there any suggestions to this end for a Ubuntu development environment (Windows, if Gamemaker wins over)?

In any case, for the first time, Nan is in. See you all on the other side.

I’m in

Once again I will take a weekend off from doing the work I am supposed to do and instead make a game. I’ve been looking forward to this weekend for the last month.

I’ll be using:
Unity
Audacity/abundant-music.com
pixlr

My goal ever since I started participating has been to get in the top 100 overall in the compo. Last LD was the closest I’ve gotten, hopefully this time I’ll make it.

Well, looks like all the cool kids are doing it, I’m in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare, and oh boy am I excited.

I will be using C++ along with SDL2, art, music, and sound affects are going to be done by two other people.

I am so unprepared.

I’d recommend you spend your time creating a framework for your game until the competition begins. The only hard-and-fast rule is that your game, such as it is, should not be worked on until the theme is announced.

I am in! Hope I will finish my first LD this time

Tools: Unity3D, Inkscape, Paint.NET, Audacity, sfxr

I’m In Again! (5th time’s the charm! :D) Some TIPS Too

Spoiler Alert: I said 4th the charm last time. I also said that I bet I’d be saying 5th time’s the charm.

Ludum Dare is coming in less than a week! The only other two things I’m this excited for within the next 3 months are Captain America Civil War(Because of Spiderman), and No Man’s Sky.

Anyone who’s not yet sure of whether or not to join, I strongly urge you to give it a go. It’s super fun, and you learn A TON each and every time.

Tips:

1. Simplicity is key. Look at most of the winners for the compo, and they won because of stupidly simple ideas polished to perfection.
2. Try and get everything done on Saturday. Really. If you can do that, you have a full day to polish the game to perfection.
3. Make sure you have a clearly and fully planned design before sitting down to code. It helps to keep out confusion, and allows you to polish the game to perfection.
4. Take care of yourself. Being able to stay awake and think can really help with those nasty coding bugs. And less time spent fixing bugs allows for more time to polish your game to perfection.

Make sure that after the 48 or 72 hours, you rate as many games as you can. Be sure to rate well, and leave a constructive comment. I like to try and rate all the games of people who comment on my game. Lets see if we can make that a thing.

My Tools:
Unity
Pyxel Edit(Go ahead and buy it. Worth $10 definitely)
BFXR
And as for music… well, I just pretend it doesn’t exist. 😀

Good luck everyone!

PS: If it appears in the theme voting, downvote Kittens. 😉

What if I’d rather slovene my game to perfection?

I don’t know why, but I kinda feel like you really value polishing your game to perfection…

It’s time to split some atoms

After hearing about Ludum Dare for the first time more than a year ago, and then watching some fellow developers participate in LD34 back in January, I’ve decided to take the dare myself by diving into the pool for my first official swim.

Planned tools for this outing will be Haxe, Luxe, and other various helpers.

Let’s do it!

(Maybe) I’m in

Hey, since everone is doing this “I’m in”, I thought I would join the bandwagon.

School is becoming a pain in the a$$ a the moment, but I do think (and hope) I can set aside some time make some sort of game. This will be my second real Ludum Dare (I’ve done 2 MiniLD’s) and my 6th game jam overall. I had originally planned to finish my in-dev engine before this Ludum Dare, but personal matters came in the way, so I guess I will just code from scratch this time.

Anyways, let’s get to the tools.

Code
MonoGame
Xamarin Studio
Atom (For non C# files)

Graphics
Aseprite
Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator (If I have a reason to)

Sound
www.BeepBox.co
BFXR

I’m in – 7th time in a row!

Hello, fellow game devs!

I normally post my “I’m in” a few weeks before LD, but I forgot this time around. Better late than never, right?

Same tools as I used my last six times :

Engine : Unity (C#, MonoDevelop)

Art : Photoshop CS5

Sound / music : Not sure yet, depends on what kind of game I make.

Planning : Evernote, pen and paper, as usual.

Not hugely satisfied with the theme choices, but we’ll have to see.

Good luck to everyone, and have fun!

I may be in. Not certain, yet.

I’m currently busy building my game, [TERMINAL], at the moment, so I’m not sure if I’ll participate this time.  Last LD I just didn’t have the time to spare.

Hopefully by Thursday I’ll have a better idea of whether I’m in or out.
