Status Update

So zhuowei and I decided to work on a platformer, where the character can transform air into water (and vice versa) in order to avoid obstacles by swimming or otherwise. How this ties in with the theme, “Ancient Technology” is definitely something we’ll have to figure out.

Throughout the day, we’ve been working on implementing the mechanics. We took way too long to figure out that all we needed to do to simulate water physics was to set the Linear Drag to 1. I implemented a nice HUD complete with a breath meter (to limit the use of the air -> water power) that goes red once depleted, signalling the cooldown period. This gives the player an incentive to not completely drain their breath meter.

Showing the breath cooldown after depleting the character’s breath. Normally the bar is blue.

I also took out my graphics tablet to draw some great stick figure animations (I’ve never animated anything before)

Animating a run cycle. Yes, this is Adobe Flash. This really takes me back to elementary school.

Zhuowei worked on some textures and level design, creating a block that floats when you turn the air into water. This will be used as obstacles in the level.

In any case, it’s nearly 2am, and so we’re calling it a night. We’ll be back at it tomorrow morning.

Heya! Hope you’re having fun with the Ludum Dare so far! And don’t worry about taking too long to figure out game mechanics, it’s all for fun anyway so if you end up finishing late that’s just how it is :)

And I´m Live again!

Just had a wonderful nap and a shower and I feel so much more refreshed. Time to iron out the last few mechanics and then give this bad boy some sauce!

I created a mildly difficult level (just by randomly plonking some elements down) and the puzzle itself works! So that’s great 😉

You can follow my progress yet again on: https://www.twitch.tv/doctorgravy

Shower sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the idea ^^

Calling it a night – proud of my progress so far!

Finished the ruins! You must solve the puzzle attached to the spikes in order to progress.

Here is what the puzzle will (sort of) look like.

BTW I’m in!

I learned Ludum Dare was going on yesterday morning (here in Europe) as I was going on a family trip to far away (still am). I’m doing something though! Look at that totally original and inspired character!

Desert guy

This time I’m using Pico-8 because I don’t have a lot of time at all!

I sincerely hope I’ll be able to finish! Wish me luck!

Progress!

That is the place where the adventure begins.

The sun is bright.
The air is clean and full of oxygen.
Untouched nature.
What bad could happen?

Progress Report (23 hours in)

Where did those 8 hours go? Oh right… This human body requires respite and restoration.

Well yesterday’s AI problems are no more. Took less than half an hour to sort it out (shuffled the hacks around). Not that it is any smart yet, but at least it provides a proper fight.

Next up the titular ancient technologies!

How is going game…

The theme is “Ancient Technology”.

I created two ancient games: flappy square and snake.

You can play those games if you are in Egypt 😀

Assembly Required Update #2

Adding the physics and what happens behind the scenes.
Creating the object’s stats and formulas when colliding.

Junk Machine… teaser?

My game, halfway through development.

The music in the background is edited in because I couldn’t capture the game audio… (It’s Cistrolat – Genesis) (get it? because the genesis was ancient technology ba-dum-ching)

well, it’s playable, kind of

first “puzzle” implemented, planning to have one or two more in this area. Progress is being made, been thinking about audio mostly, thinking of a all-guitar soundtrack (music and effects) or at least something to make the world feel alive

here’s a video of me going through what I have so far

Progress…

NimetönLittle bit of progress with my game. First upgrades work and theres now customer skip button  :) Good luck everybody!!!

Graphics?..

The second day begins with bug in Unity, then bugs in game, then bug in GIMP… What a buggy morning!

But then begins the real challenge. And, after 3 or 4 hours of drawing, scaling, drawing again, redrawing etc, meet Mr. P. Layer. Or just Pete.

I hope I can do better, but now is not the time for it.
