Progress so far

I originally wanted to play around with gravity, but had to scratch that. Instead it’s just floating boxes.

Started 24 Hours Late

I ended up starting really late this time around and probably won’t have this done by the deadline, but here’s what I’m working on:

Primitive Technology

It’s an adventure game about repairing “Primitive Technology” that’s played on “Primitive Technology”! I was spitballing some ideas with a friend of mine when this one came up and I just had to make a quick prototype. Shame I ended up starting so late, but there’s some similar games floating around that I’m sure will take this idea much further than I can. :)

Made using LÖVE and Photoshop.

I’m out (and not happy about it)

It’s 15 hours left and I’m FAAAR from something playable. That’s my cue to surrender. To be honest most of it is my fault. I didn’t plan this Ludum Dare very well. When the theme was announced I hadn’t even decided on what language to use. I’ve been switching back and forth and trying different ideas, and wasted almost half of day 1 on that.

I potentially COULD get a playable version of my current idea by tonight, but I got other things I have to do as well, and I think the stress and exhaustion won’t be worth it, since I probably wont be that pleased with the final result.

I might submit something if I get a brilliant idea that I can make in maybe 3-4 hours, but that’s unlikely.

Happy Ludum Dare to the rest of you! I’ll still play plenty of submissions.

Why not submit something to the jam?

LD is something you should do for the challenge and the enjoyment. The point is to have fun and try new things.

Wich one?

Awesome graphics but terrible gameplay, or

Good gameplay but not so good graphics?

The first one I think will get better ratings.

AFAIK there’s no ratings this time, so don’t sweat it too much.

Also, as someone who worked too much on the graphics and will barely have time for gameplay, I’d say a balance between both would be ideal.

If you’re game is fun to play graphics don’t matter. My games are pretty but boring, that’s not good either.

Graphics will get better ratings, however if you make a game playable in the web I really dont think people will mind how it looks, make it good, that’s all

Gameplay over graphics, you can’t appreciate good graphics when the gameplay is bad, but people can overlook bad graphics when the gameplay is worth it.

LD36 Update on A.R.C

Well I took  half a day off gamedev and ldjam yesterday for spend some time with a very good friend and my family, which has invigorated me to focus on this project in a much better mindset than I was in. So without further a-do, this is what A.R.C currently looks like.

I’m currently recording the whole development so I can put it up on youtube at somepoint in the near future.

Added a bit too many bombs and bombers… haha

Change of plans

I love MonoGame and everything that goes along with modern programming languages (such as graphics); however, I couldn’t think of anything that fit the theme that was possible to create in a weekend. So rather than create a game focused on ancient technology, I decided to make a game for ancient technology. My new game is text based tic tac toe for the Commodore  64. I’m writing it in Basic using the Vice emulator. I have always hoped to find a Commodore 64 in the wild but never have. This is the next best thing. Plus I get to learn an old, outdated language in the process. What’s not to love?

New Development Tools:

  • Vice Commodore Emulator

Indicator Text

Here is our alchemy thing.
Things are going fine. I might have time for the additional mechanics I want!

#LD36 [Smart Again] Progress?

I was completely shocked when the theme came out, but after some hours i came up with an idea:

TECHNOLOGY TOOK OVER THE WORLD…

EVERYTHING WE DO IT’S RELATED TO MODERN TECHNOLOGY.

COULD WE SURVIVE IN THE OLDER ERA, WHEN THE ONLY TECHNOLOGIES WERE THE 3 ELEMENTS?

LET’S FIND OUT!

we got preatty good fire! 9/11

Hard decisions…

To sleep and feel better or to sprint the last 14 hours…

i’m out

…i’m out. Cannot do this right now, hopefully next time with a more prepared setup…

Great looking games so far, wow!

Second day progress image/broken gif!

capture2

I made a gif image. of my progress. Hopefully it works, you might need to click on it. The gif doesn’t work, so you’ll just have to go with the image for now.

The aim of the game is to follow the ancient cave drawings to escape the temple. This is one level. The drawing shows person with a parachute over fire with an up arrow, showing that you must pick up the parachute and be carried up by the smoke from the lava. It’s going really well.

Everyone else’s is looking great, keep it up! 😀

My Epic Wicked Logo! :D

sdfsdsdfsdds

There it is! That’s my epic sick wicked logo.

But seriously anyone else struggling to name their game? :/

In Carp We Trust
