Okay guys, just lost one of the hard drives in my server. I have a spare one lying around but I don’t want to be doing a raid resync during the compo, so I’m just going to leave it in the precarious failed state until Sunday. Here’s hoping it survives that long! I don’t think this will affect my entry except for a little extra stress, but you gotta love the timing.
Oh yeah we’re supposed to mention if we plan to make a game, aren’t we? And talk about our tools a little?
Well I’m using my game framework that I’ve used for all my previous games. I may or may not be using my sidescroller library that I originally developed for those, or my terrible terrible level editor, or my level-based-game framework.
Who can say? I cannot!
What I can say: there will be a game in 49 hours. That is guaranteed. And with luck, it’ll even be good.

Hi guys, I will try to make something for this Ludum Dare. I tried last time with my Floating Islands.
As ruben01, I will use:
My target platforms will be Linux, Mac and Windows.
Our engine and some other helpers are here

Greetings from NZ.
So I’m planning to enter my second LudumDare, Zombie Rainbows notwithstanding. The times are a little inconvenient, starting Saturday afternoon and not finishing until well into the workday on Monday. I’m simply going to have to code faster to wrap everything up by Sunday afternoon.
I’m using C++ and SDL/OpenGL. I’ve written a few helper classes and methods that make life easier. They’re downloadable from my website, but I’ll add the disclaimer that they’re not finished, and there’s a memory leak (or two). I’m currently downloading the amazing Fluid Studios MMGR to track down the issue and fix it. I’ll be using GIMP and Inkscape for graphics, drawing with my TabletPC, and I currently have no idea what I’m doing for Audio.
I hope to do better than my last LudumDare attempt where I scored highly with my graphics, but the gameplay was nonexistent. I have more experience this time around, having worked as the lead programmer on Doc Clock, an upcoming WiiWare title.
Here’s the obligatory crappy-cellphone-camera workspace photo:
And now I’m going to mow the lawn before it rains.

Taken with my phone’s amazing camera

Yes, I need to do a cleanup of all those papers. But not this weekend!

easy and fast http://tones.wolfram.com/
then will save the midi file and record the sound in the audacity while it plays on media player.
here are some pics of the setup in audacity to allow you to record from the computer audio.

This time I have no other obligations, so I’ll have a chance to make a proper game. Hurrah! I’m looking forward to this.
I’ll be hanging out in the IRC channel. It will be fun to see everyone’s entries progress over the course of the weekend, and I look forward to all the ensuing craziness.
I’ll be using Flash, and coding in FlashDevelop, with GIMP for any sprites I end up needing. I may do synthesized sound, and if not then I’ll end up using sfxr and Audacity. I’m not using much in the way of pre-existing code, just a simple input class and some really basic UI managers:

Ergonomics is key guys!
With all my junk packed up or liberated by siblings and family members, I’ve got my bed and floor for optimal support!
This is something i found a few minutes ago, do me a favour and download some of theese!

Enjoy! 😉

Time to throw in a post before everything starts, with the obligatory environment-I’ll-be -sitting-while-coding photo. Note the drink at the ready to the left of the lappy and the notebooks to the right. All I’m missing now is snacks, which shall be amended with a trip to the 100 yen store around the corner in a moment.
As for tools:
Finally, I might take advantage of the fact I’m working on a tiny laptop and take it out and about to code for a bit. Change of scenery and all that.
It works. I’ve got Irrlicht working. After screwing with it for about 3 hours, I’ve got it working. It links statically, I have both Linux and Windows binaries for it, and I have Blender exporting models that it can use. I’m ready to give this my freaking all.
Want proof that it works? Look at this space ship floating on a blue-purple background with no lighting enabled:

It looks like nothing to you, but to me it represents hope. Hope for a finished game. Hope for my future 3D game dev efforts. Hope for a brighter future.

Freshly cleaned! I could barely see the bottom of the second monitor before because of the pile of books…

Taking the long view, I’m going to actually spend some time thinking and planning how I want to approach this theme. Last time I made a platformer, and that was fun, I’d never done it before. This time around, I’m thinking tower defense. I’m snapshotting my desktop once a minute for the timelapse. Good luck everyone!
