LD18 August 20–23, 2010

Hey everybody

Yeah, this will be my first Ludum Dare since a friend told me about it. I really meant to start back at LD #16 but didn’t have the time. Now I’ll at least have 24 hours since I’m still on a tight schedule. Lol I’m joining the 2 hour before the release of the theme. I’ll be using:

C++

Allegro

MsPaint(yeah, lol stuck with it for now)

and hopefully a midi sequencer

so let’s all go for it then

Yay, Allegro! I’m glad to see there are still Allegro users around.

Paint.NET! YOU CAN DO IT!

Need LD18 ideas?

I wrote a post on my blog with about 20 of them!

Hamumu Journal

Steal whatever you like, or mock them.  Whatever floats your flagpole.  I just see lots of people always saying they have no ideas, and this theme is chock-full of ideas for me, so here they are.

It’s not exactly like it, but as I posted a few days ago, check out ZynAddSubFX.

Unfinished Mediocre Random Music Generator thing

I’m sure someone will get excited at seeing this post but they really shouldn’t, i’m just disclosing ahead of time a game I wrote ages ago that does some random music generation using the C blues scale, it currently has no way to save it out other than recording externally so it’s probably not much use. Either way I wanted to disclose it just in case I run out of time trying to write proper music.

It requires SDL 1.13 (or later I imagine, never tested it on anything else). If you want to hear it in action before going through the trials of setting it up to compile you can get the windows installer for the game here.

Lots of love,

brian.

edit: Here’s a picture of my desktop because realistically i’m probably going to forget about community stuff once I start, I can plan otherwise but I just don’t have the time other than quick updates on progress.

My workspace

I’ve got a simple setup including two large whiteboards (not pictured) and dual monitors. I’m not sure how much I’ll use my Wacom tablet though but I set it up just in case.

Montage and greetings…

HybridMind's Montage

So there is my montage. It has been really fun looking at all the other montages people have been posting.

SO MANY GAMES WERE CREATED HERE AND THAT IS AWESOME!

I’ll either be using Flash IDE and ActionScript 3.0 from scratch or HTML5 and Javascript/Canvas via Akihabara game framework if I am feeling adventurous enough to use LD to learn a new tech. Depends on whether I’m gonna do the compo or the jam. Will probably wait to see the theme announcement to make up my mind. I’m worried the jam might not quench my competitive spirit especially since I missed the last April LD.

The thing I am pretty excited about is that a few of us New Englanders are getting together tomorrow to develop in person over in Portsmouth New Hampshire.  If anyone else is in the area you’re welcome to join us! We’ll be picking out a non-crowded cafe over there tomorrow and about 4 of us will be getting together so far. Pretty psyched about that part for sure!

Long live Ludum Dare!

oh wow, is that “Runaway Train”?

Classy programmer food (OOP)

Since everyone else is doing it, here is a photo of my desk (back when it was clean:-) and some food I got for the weekend. I decided to try out Papa Murphy’s Take n’ Bake pizza, and some pastries from the Italian Centre. For tomorrow I’m planning to put a roast in the slow cooker to do its thing while I code.

As for my setup (for the jam, probably):
– mini custom-made engine with Irrlicht, Lua, bullet physics, recast navigation, boost signals/function, openal/ogg vorbis.
– all that compiling on ubuntu lucid lynx. I can port on Win7 vc10 when done.

Good LD yo you all !

Looks like the Monday AFTER a typical LD weekend to me.

My Workspace

I just “cleaned” it. Doesn’t it look so spotless? =p

Waiting for the topic to decide if I’m going to participate. I’ll either try Javascript/Canvas again or go learn something new with Java/Slick 2D, depending on, oh, I don’t know, random fluctuations in the space-time continuum.

Yeahhh I’m in

I really should be resting now, but I’ve finished my work so I can participate in LD18!

I intend to use

MMF2,
MadTracker2
and Photoshop CS2!
(All the twos).

Good luck all!

Your artwork rules!

First time competing.

Will be developing in C with SDL and Cairo.  May pick snippets of code from some of my demos.  If it strikes me, I’ll compose some audio with FL Studio.

my demos are posted at Github: http://github.com/acdimalev

Planning to write an arcade-style action game (playable solo, other players can join in at any time).

Deskshots seem to be popular, so heres mine.

Hopefully I’ll have some time left to use my audiogear as well:

Jumping in late

Hi all,
i think i’m in, not shure if i’ll enought time to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Anyway past ludum dare where a lot of fun hope this will be the same.

I’ve coded some shi**y lib which together form a shi**y framework the last 4 days, so here it is: http://code.google.com/p/ludumdareengine/
Use it at your own risk! Do not try it at home! You may experience some serious injury if you look too close at the soruce 8)
It’s written in C using GLUT and OPENGL. It runs on macos [latest verion] and linux [slackware ~10] and i think there will be no problem porting it to windows.
It has some memory management feature [something like an enanced garbage collector], some debug and timeing function, minimal udp client-server functions, a state machines to manage games states and a rle files compression.

c-ya “on the road”

OH, SHI-!

lol, i have just taken unlucky to the next level (but thankfully i have worked around it)

My game workstation is my laptop… and i left the charging cord at school (i wouldn’t be surprised if you could hear faint cursing wherever you were). i managed to fix it by swapping the hard-drive into the *cough*school*cough* laptop (i’d never… XD) and booting into safe mode to get those drivers going. it’s not very fast, but still easily useable (as long as i dont have to re-boot, that takes 20 minutes ………)

I was thinking of using this LD as a sharp learning curve for me learning XNA in VC#, but it looks like im going to have to revert back to good old GM8 this time. maybe i can use XNA next time 😀
