Where do I submit this thing?
I was so exited for Double Zombie Rainbow, i made an intro song and a theme song.
Not that good vocals though, but hilarious epicness!
Enemy’s as weapons sounds cool to though!
…will be my weapon!
Was hoping for this concept from the start, I just finished downloading Unity and will start learning it from the very bottom line…

For a while now I’ve wanted to do a prototype RTS; i had this idea in my head for a very simple Baldaurs gate style RTS / RPG thing.
The protagonist is a necromancer! The player has only one attack of his own; the neck break. You have to creep up behind an enemy and break their neck. Very simple really. However, once you have a corpse in your posession, you have the ability to resurrect that corpse to do your bidding, absorb the corpse to recharge your health, or divide the corpse’s energy between your other minions. The more minions you have, the less powerful each minion will be; when a minion dies, it cannot be resurrected again.
The levels will be tile based, viewed from a top down perspective, and all enemies will be viewed top down; enemies are either resurrected as zombies (who retain the abilities of the creature they were in life) or skeletons, which are tough melee soldiers, but do not have the abilities of the creature they were in life.
I’ll take this basic set of gameplay mechanics and flesh it out as im working; my first task will be to get the renderer and animations working.
I can’t wait to learn a lot of useful things to do in flixel!
Wrap arounds, controlling counters, tasty explosions, maybe even a starfield! This is gonna be great!
Now if only I can think of a name for this shmup. But first order of business, learn chronosphere. Eeep.
(evolution next time people, next time!)
Sweet. This is one of my favorite themes in games, so I’m pretty excited about what I could do with this. Time for a bit of brainstorming, then some feasibility assessment to narrow down designs.
Inspiration on the topic of Enemies as Weapons: TUMIKI Fighters (adding on), Pokemon (capturing), Kirby (absorbing abilities – or more pertinently, wielding directly in Kirby 64), Rayhound (redirecting attacks), Mischief Makers (enemies as projectiles).
Hrm, hard to think of this theme in a non-mechanic way. In the meantime, FOODUM DARE!
Banana is supposed to be good for the brain or something right?

BANANA TOAST!
Also, snacks are esential. These are from the nearby 100 yen store. <3 100 yen stores.

Cookies and something with a tanuki on it!

Woooowww Ludum Dare for-realz-mode this time. This’ll be my first non-mini LD yet! 😀
I read Dem Rulez and it said that if we planned on using any sort of personal libraries or basecode or whatever, we should show them to everyone via blog post, so that’s what this post is for. Plus excitement.
Link to a nice little package containing what I usually use for my random projects that never get finished: Download!
C++ only, uses SDL and SDL_image, and I was (and still am) pretty nooby at C++, so if you feel the need to check it out or something, don’t expect to find anything particularly well-written or reasonable in it.
Compiling on Windows is possible, but it requires a couple minor changes, I believe (I’ve never actually tried, but I’ve given it to someone else to do it so I could make sure it would work).
Now to get to pondering on what to do for the theme. :O
I have decided on my game title: Birds Of Prey. The ideas are flowing, a bit better than expected! Let’s hope I can keep this up, it’s already 10:30pm here my time…

I am using Java and JOGL, thus the source is in Java with some Eclipse project files.

I expected some other theme to win, but “enemies as weapons” works out quite well.
So I’ve got two ideas:
You can already tell I’m stuck.

Got my basic idea in place. Since there is so little time in this competition I was looking for an idea that I believe will be a good balance of fun with ease of implementation. This theme is fun and so wide open I expect a ton of similar base ideas implemented in many different ways.
My idea is simply an arcade score or collect-o-thon based around using various types of enemies on screen as your weapons to hit the collectibles. In the screenshot above you are the target or bullzeye player which will be mouse-controlled.
You will fly around and lure the enemies into following or shooting at you. Once they are coming at your player you can move them around to hit the collectibles.
Simple and basic but it leaves a lot of room for fun and messing around with that mechanic.
So here’s the thought: Top down, player has the ability to cause any enemy within some radius to explode, destroying everything nearby. Has some set number of times he can do this per screen. So by variously waiting on or luring enemies, can kill the excess enemies and break down walls to progress.
Giving this a shot. Wish me luck, folks.
I’ll be more verbose once I figure out what I’m making.
Is that close enough?
Not the theme I would have liked but after some brainstorming I’ve come up with a couple ideas. One was inspired by Diablo II’s necromancer where you can resurrect dead bodies to work for you and kill more enemies. The other idea was similar but instead of minions you’d use “things” found inside the dead enemies to upgrade yourself.
Not sure of the style yet but I’ll probably make it into some form of 2D sidescroller.
So, this is officially my first Ludum Dare. I am pretty excited about it.
After spending 1% of the competition brainstorming a good idea, I finally settled on one. The player takes the role of a parasite/microscopic alien/whatever that can take control of its host and do with it as it wishes.
At first it seemed like it might seem odd if I did this and enemies just instinctively attacked you, since they wouldn’t know the host is infected, but it introduces some sense of stealth into the game. Also, the mechanic of the person showing more signs of infection over time could be possible. That way you are encouraged to switch hosts more often.
Well, here goes nothing!
Woot! I have my title and an original idea. Implementation will be tricky but it’ll be 2D and doable.
Title: Inertia
Idea: possibly original
Okay, so thanks to an inconvenient election today (thank you miss Gillard) I’m now only just setup for Ludum Dare. Dual screening for the first time with an LG E2350V and an LG E2250V and I have to say that they are a sexy, sexy set of displays. But aside from that, I didn’t have a chance to upload my framework so I shall have to start that one from scratch. We’ll see how I’m doing in an hour or two, I’ve rewritten my framework a couple of times over the last year or two so I figure it can’t be too hard. Still no idea on the theme
