I want to make some music for your game

Hi all,

I have been really getting into making music lately. I have cubase 6 and a lot of nice tools to help me now, including a nice pair of KRK studio monitors.

Anyways, I would love to make a soundtrack/sound for your ludumdare game. Of course it is completely for free and if you don’t like the song I make feel free not to use it (no offense taken at all). I have accepted a dare to release a new song every day for one year, starting today. So any songs I make will be included in the 365 I have to make of course and so I want to keep all personal rights to the music.

Here is song release #1 which I whipped up today:

The Universe is Getting Colder

Follow me on facebook or twitter if you want to find out when the new songs release (there will be a lot of them!).

Email me and I’ll be happy to make a song for your game. I would like to know what the genre of the game is, what you are thinking the music/soundtrack should sound like and also I’d like to play the game if possible to try to match the music to the game as closely as possible.

Where’s the drums at? 😀

Wow, ehm, that was… unique and very random, I think. To be honest, it lacks some rhythm, and that vocal really didn’t fit… It could use some polishing.

wow I thought about challenging myself to do 1 song a week for a year but decided that was too hard. Looking forward to see how the tracks evolve.

Early MiniLD #25 entry

I couldn’t help but do this early as I was struck by the inspiration and couldn’t let the idea get away from me before the contest “officially” started.  I made a few decisions early:  worst language i could use to make a game = javascript.  Worst interface = buttons only.   Worst genre = zork type games, with random results only, meaning nothing you pick matters.  I added even more frustration by making the actions you can pick totally arbitrary, generic, and meaningless, reducing it to just “do something”.  This game incorporates just about everything I hate about the games that I hate into one, with the exception of the game that has a lousy ending following a massive amount of gameplay.

Wow. First, I died doing something.

Then, I did something but it didn’t work. I tried again and I won.

Funny :)

Mini Ludum 25 – A Game With Letters, Switches, and Doors.

That’s the title. A Game With Letters, Switches, and Doors. It invovles you standing upside down, the movement controls are all messed up, letters are everywhere, and a terribly wonderful 8-bit loop plays the entire time. It’s a puzzle game. A bad puzzle game.

Polishing the fish

Well, I better get a move on with MiniLD#25,hmmm…  but I think I have an idea to go with now… it’s a tough assignment!

I reckon I’ve finished with “fishslap”, my first Ludumite game, for MiniLD#24. All Ludumite peoples are welcome to download the completed version (with special extras, 5 games modes, high scores) from here:

http://www.pellenproductions.com/fishslap/fishslap_setup.exe

this is a windows installable file.

cheers,

I have an idea

OK, I have an idea for my worst game ever, but I won’t tell you yet because I’m not sure I’ll be able to finish in time. :)

There is a catch, though. I can’t in good conscience make a horrible game because for me the whole purpose of participating in LD is to get better at making stuff. So my idea sorta deviates from the theme.

Dimension Wars

Dimension Wars is probably the worst game I’ve ever made. :)

It’s an “Age of War” clone, but it is like 1000000times worse. :)

Link coming soon, I’m going to first fix some performance issues.

Stay tuned…

Mini-LD Game – Valorous-X

I’ve decided to use the Mini-LD as a chance to prototype a game that I have wanted to develop for quite some time, as well as to finally learn Ogre 3D.

The title of the game is Valorous-X, and it is a multi-directional shooter.

The prototype will be thrown together mostly in the last 24h of the Mini-LD. This is partly because I am still getting Ogre set up, and partly because I’m lazy and will likely slack off quite a bit. Also, it takes a couple of hours to set up a basic Ogre program from scratch. (Not incredibly long, but it’s still a process putting together the render window, input system, and other bits)

For this game, I plan on having a single player vehicle, as well as a couple of types of baddies. I am not sure what else it will have.

I hope to have a Windows binary some time Monday or Tuesday, provided that I can get Mingw working with Ogre. Here’s hoping.

Peace, Love, and C++

— Mr. Dude

Finished minild-25!

you can find the game here

…or maybe…

Nice kick to all the collect-em-ups we’ve seen since the birth of videogames.

Mini LD Progress

I’m about half-way through my game, so I thought I’d post something before I go to bed.

My idea was to make one of those games that’s incredibly ambitious and also thoroughly buggy and broken (e.g. Boiling Point). So I’m making a roguelike with as much stuff in it as I can possibly fit. In no particular order:

  • Noise propagation.
  • Avalanches.
  • Full ecosystem (plants eaten by herbivores, which are eaten carnivores, omnivores eat everything).
  • Dynamic weather.
  • Predators track you (and other prey) by smell and noise.
  • Floods.
  • Hunger, thirst <- every creature in the game suffers from these. Some will change their behaviour as a result.
  • Traps which the player can only see if they’re observant enough.
  • Probably other stuff I’ve forgotten.

Basically I want to create something incredibly chaotic and broken, with most games ending within a couple of turns through no fault of the player. It’s also hideously ugly, and easily the most irritating game I’ve ever made, thanks to the deliberately corrupted graphics you can see in the above screenshot. Here’s what it looks like when they’re not corrupted:

Half way through…

So far I have a slightly odd, and ugly, football game. Tomorrow I shall put in the other team members, and that is where it shall get truly awful. I spent most of today recording a woeful song on a 4 track in my basement on instruments I haven’t touched in over a year, that’s pretty bad too.

So far this has been quite fun. It’s nice not stressing about it being any good :)

Quite a bit of progress

I’m doing well with my game so far :)

Here’s a screenshot:
you're not missing much if it didn't load... It's just black

And no, I’m not making a mistake. Nor is your computer screwing up the download of the image.

You have to ask yourself, how much more black could this be? And the answer is, none…none more…black.

HackBotz – Post Compo Release

My LD#18 game, HackBotz, was the first game I did using Flash.  I felt like it was a pretty good concept, and so when the October challenge came along I was motivated to polish it up a bit, add some levels, and release it into the wild.   A couple of months on Flashgamelicense.com and a few sponsorship offers later, I managed to get a non-exclusive with addictinggames.com which was pretty cool.  It was a good learning experience, and I owe it all to the Ludum Dare compo.  You can play the game here.

Best Gahme

I ditched the latter par of the whole “So bad it’s good” thing. AKA “It’s bad”. I mustered up all my experience from my 8th grade game-maker games in order to create this masterpiece entitled: BOBER<S QUEST

actual post thing where I say the exact same thing again: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/minild-25/?action=preview&uid=1548

btw sorry if this post is completely rubbish, I’m in the rubbish mindset from wasting an hour of my life on this.

Awesome Game Compilation!

I think I might be failing as far as purposely making it bad.  It’s so tempting to tweak things to make it feel a little better — I cannot resist it!  Anyhow, I’m making a compilation game.  So far I completed (with exception to sound) two of the games today.  I plan to keep making games until the time runs out, so I don’t know how many there will be in the end.

Game 1 is called “Lost In The Woods.”  Try to find your way back home.  Controls are arrow keys.

Game 2 is called “Alien Invader.”  It’s a somewhat standard space shooter with a twist.

Edit: If you have Python & PyGame and would like to test out what I currently have, feel free to download it here: http://temp.natewm.com/prog/agc_alpha_1.zip

I tried to get my friends to play this, but after spending a few hours rolling up our characters, I rolled a ‘1’ on the adventure dice and, after consulting the ‘adventure table’, I found out that we all died of plague.

Something for mini ld 25

Haaa

I’m working on something for mini ld 25 my worst  game ever….

Ingredents:

Some photos of old toys for artwork.

An almost impossible to win game mode.

A fun alternative to play it.
