LD 40 December 1–4, 2017

I'm In!

I'm In!

... with a new account because the old account is forever lost due to email domain is gone and account can't be recovered...

Anyway, my first LD in a couple of years.

How am I going to do it? - LÖVE - Atom IDE - Bfxr - Bosca Ceoil - The GIMP - GitHub - Ubuntu GNOME - And lots of sarcasm via Twitter

However, the local christmas markets are opening this week, so I could be tempted away with lots of Glühwein, Bratwurst in Brotchen, and Heiße Maronen...

Second jam

So, this is my second ldjam and i've chosen the following tools:

  • Cocos Creator
  • Visual studio code
  • Magix music maker
  • Bxfr
  • Paint.net

And to host the game + sources:

  • Github
  • Itch.io

My aim is to make HTML5 version first, and then port it to android after submit deadline.

Twitter

I'm in

This will be my first jam. I just want to actually finish something for once lol

I'm in

Third LD jam. Might get a partner and do a jam submission this time. Good luck and have fun everyone!

I'm in. Hopefully.

I hope I'll finish something this time.

I'm in

This will be my first jam. I use C# with monogame ;)

I'm in

Hello guys :) This will be my first Ludum Dare. Sort of getting my toe wet in game programming. I will use Unity and C#. Lets see how far I can get :O Shoutouts to Brackeys lol

Im in!! Again...

I have done it two times but never realy finished it so hope this time i will make something cool. I am using: Unity. C#. Visual Studios. Paint.net. Photoshop. Blender. Magica Voxel. Bosca ceoil. Audacity.

my game now on google play , do you like it ?

what do you think about my game that is video trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AOYy8lOVnc the game link on google play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gobla.lastline

Second Compo - Used For School Project

I'm going to participate for the second time ever, last time was so much fun! I somehow got 18th in humor so that was great. This time I'll use my game and the process (I will stream the entire process on twitch and save the recording) as a school project, what's called a "gymnasieprojekt" in sweden which is essentially the final project of high school and you need to have one in order to graduate.

I wish you all good luck,

I'm in!

Hopefully, I'll be able to finish something this time.

I'm joining in!

This will be my first Ludum Dare jam! I'm joining with a few friends, we're using Unity C#! :)

I'm in

With Haxe and enthusiasm.

I'm in

Likely to produce something colourful and ridiculous using the Defold engine.

We are so in!

Can’t wait to start my first Ludum Dare and I’m not alone! My wifey will do some 3D models with Blender meanwhile me using Unity with C#, GIMP if necessary, Audacity for noise recording, maybe LMMS for music. Both of us gonna brainstorm about the game design, little family jam project. :) We are just learning but enthusiastic about game development, hopefully, can finish something. As you’ll see it on Twitch stream.

Wishing All the Best for Everyone =]

Let's see if I can be in...

Hoping to be in again this time around, but I have to write 3 semester exams over this weekend as well, which is a pretty time-consuming task. If I can find enough time to try anything it will use JavaScript, as has been my norm in recent years. Regardless of if I'm able to participate or not, I wish everybody luck!

about theme voting ?

it is my first time here , so i wonder what is difference between round 1 ,2 ,3 final round every round have it is own game ideas so any explaining ?

We're in for a second try :D

My friend Bxdaze and I joined LD38 and finished outr first entry, but we didn't get enough voting for a ranking...

Now time for reinvigoration XD

And a new member comes to the team; Another friend of mine, Role, is ready for making game graphics for the team at LD40. Now we are a trio!

Tools we will (probably) be using: - Unity3D(C#) - Enterprise Architect for code generation - MonoDevelop-Unity for code editing (yea this time no Visual Studio...) - Zeal for documentation browsing - PaintTool SAI for sketching - Photoshop for graphics - FL Studio for music - Famitracker for sound effect

Im in for another one!

Second time, i think i'm going for an Compo this time :)

Cover photo resolution

Hi, could you change the game cover resolution to something more, 2017? Thanks :D

Joining in!

First LD, working with three others, we'll be using Unity C#

First LD Jam!

I’m in for the first time.

I started programming in c# about 3 weeks ago. Just watched many tutorials and slowly am understanding what I’m even doing. It’s so exciting – you wrote a piece of code and suddenly something is moving on your screen. :o

I’m going to try to make a little 2D game and I will use Unity3D. And for the graphics Gimp 2.9 aswell as Marmoset Hexels. I’m anticipating the weekend and am looking forward to programming the first game, I’m going to come up myself.

I wish you all a creative and productive time!!

Lets try

So lets try. Im artist and dev, who always sets himself tremendous tasks.

Second jam!

I first jammed in LD38 and it was a great experience! I missed the last one, but I'm back for this time! I'll be using Godot for the first time, I'm still undecided between pixel and vector art, so I'll be keeping in hand Piskel and Inkscape, as well as the trusty bfxr and Bosca Ceoil for audio.

Have a good jam everybody!

Pre-LD40 Warmups

In order to get into the right mindset for the jam, I wanted to do some warmups.

Warmup #1

It started off weird, as I am our team's graphics guy and I began by coding a little D&D-inspired combat encounter in Twine 2. (I'm not very good at coding, so this took a good few hours.)

You can play it here.

fightamonster_warmup.png

Warmup #2

Then, this morning, I decided I should get back to what I will actually be doing, and mocked up a little dungeon tile sheet starting with the pico-8 palette. I of course have no idea what kind of game we'll end up making, but an RPG/Roguelike style tilesheet felt like fun.

pico8 tileset_twitter.png

Warmup #3

After this I figured it was animation time, and thus a running alley cat appeared. I always forget just how long it takes to animate things. I'll have to remember to not overdo it on the number of frames for the jam.

runanim2.gif

Now I'll just need to get the team together for a refresher-course in our GitHub workflow and we're all set to get jamming!

previousgames.png

First LD

First LD but not my first Jam. Hoping to make something fun and simple (something I’ll actually finish). No teammates, so I’ll be one-man-army-ing it this weekend :) Good luck and happy jamming everybody!

Hello beginners :D

Hey to everyone, the old and the new. I would like to take 5 minutes of your time to suggest a very nice video to watch (which I'm sure most here already know) but it'll help some who may have never seen it and especially those who are using LD or gameJams in general as their "first game" attempt.

Trust me, I know how that feels, my first ever fully completed game was a Ludum Dare 38 entry :D my first entry and first complete game, and it felt awesome to make a first working game even though it wasn't perfect by far.

Anyways, this is mostly to those of you who are making their first game, and are not sure how the process and planning and all that even goes, in other words.... those of you who are like me on my first Ludum Dare.

Watch THIS VIDEO

trust me, it's very helpful and explains things better than I will ever manage. So just watch it if you're planning to make your first game, whether it's for ludum dare or not doesn't matter.

Humor me

Excited about this LD.

As a personal goal, I want to beat my best score from previous LDs in the humor category. As opposed to previous LDs, I now feel I have some more experience with game development and the tools I will be using. We will see if this is a good thing or not :P

I will use:

Can't wait to find out what the theme is :D

2nd time

1st one wasnt great.lets see how this one goes and good luck everyone

Warmup for coders

Hi again,

inspired by @flaterectomy's post I thought I should maybe show you something I use for warmup: adventofcode, an advent calender full of coding exercises :-) Actually, it's a bit late this year since LD40 starts at december 1st, but by tinkering with the URL you can still access the calenders of the last years.

The fun about adventofcode is that there is no language stated, you only get some input lines and a question like "what is the phone number that santa has been looking for?" or so and an input field to enter your answer. The focus is on the result, not on your way to get there.

I've been using it to learn new programming languages, because I find it easier to learn such things if I have a precise goal.

Since the Godot engine allows you to execute godot scripts from the terminal by executing

godot -s script.gd

, I'm using the exercises to get comfortable with the GDscript language. But even if your engine doesn't support that, you could still build some primitive game window with an in-game-label or textfield to show you the answer.

Participating 2nd time ...

... Especially if Theme is interesting :) Last time, LD37 (which was my first time), I had hard time coming up with something to match the theme, it was rather uninspiring ("the room") at least for me, so I hope this time it's better.

Gonna use:

-C# (Unity)

-Blender (3D)

-Krita (2D)

Have fun and good luck! :)

First LD (Jam)

Good luck to all!

Official Unofficial Ludum Dare Discord(650+ members)

Cross posted/ Reposted for relevace. Final Post for this LD

Did someone say warm-ups?

I had an itch to start a quickie weekend project (I might keep working when I'm done with Beelzebox) shortly before realizing there was a Ludum Dare coming in a week. Making things in a short period of time is really refreshing and I am even more hyped to get down to work in the jam. Here's what I made, I call it Tic Tac Wars 2: Tacticool Tic Tactics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VzTowIIDws

Conscript reporting!

This will be my first Ludum Dare jam yes

GIFS?!?!

Just looking for suggestions for the best gif making software.

HTML5 games!

Hey, all! Really looking forward to the weekend and the new Ludum Dare!

I love building small, accessible games you can play right in the browser, so for this jam I'll be working with Vue.js for the code and Inkscape and game-icons.net for graphics. I've found that Vue works extremely well for board games and simulation/management games, so I'm excited to see where the theme takes us!

Happy developing! :)

Second Time and Feelin' Fine

My best results with game dev have been from a previous LD, so I'm very excited and very motivated to put everything I can into this one. There are some fantastic themes in the works so let's hope we get a reaalllyyy good one. My tools for this round are gonna be:

  • either GM:S or Unity
  • Aseprite/Photoshop
  • Bfxr/Bosca

Good luck everyone!

Aw yeah, Ludum Dare!

Hiya everyone! Back for another LD, I believe this one will be the fifth I've been in? Bringing two good friends with me, and we're ready to roll! I wish you all some fun on this festive occasion!

1st Time Ludum Dare

LD40 will be my first Ludum Dare! Not my first game jam though, I've done plenty. I'll be working alone using Unity, Photoshop, LMMS, and Audacity, and possibly other tools if needed.

I'm in

Just finished up my first-ever game, why not follow it up with another? More practice is always good. I have at my disposal GMS2, twine, Krita, GIMP, Marmoset Hexels, and whatever free music software I can learn before Friday.

Hello guys!

Hello!

My First Ludum Dare? Count Me In!

Hello everyone, my name is Erik and I am new at developing games. I am joining Ludum Dare 40 because I want to try something new, plus I want to become a more experienced dev. I would love to win, but if not I will try again! I hope everyone has a good Ludum Dare, I know I will!

Hey there

hi guys

Hi guys

Hello, guys!

My first ludum dare. I've been developing games for a while but I haven't release one yet :( I just post this because everyone is posting :(

We are in for LD40.

@astrosboy15 and I will be teaming up for LD40 making this my second Jam and @astrosboy15 first.

We will be using:

Eclipse (Java)

BeepBox (for music)

Audacity (for additional sound effects/edits)

Piskel and Gimp (for assets and animations)

a question

I'm new to Ludum Dare and I was wondering if we are allowed to use unity's standard assets like 2d and environment and characters.

First post

Ok, first post, what should i say ^_^ Hello everyone ! I started to learn code in october. I saw multiple time awesome stuff in game jam dans lundum dare, and i told to myself it could be a nice challenge to do "at least" a game which work.

Revin' the Ludum Dare Engines!

VROOM! VROOM! Who else feels like they are at the red light, waiting for the signal to GO? :)

First Jam

Let's do it and get this first jam done!!

jestem w

December the 1st is too soon; my body is literally not ready. Theme will probably be as shit as every single time I participated in, because the community is eager to vote for things like ~~Ancient~~Primitive technology or One ~~room~~ ~~world~~minute. I will score below the 10th percentile or not finish at all. PMA. Let's do this and not quit when they announce One minute as the theme.

I'm in

This time I have no team and thinking about joining the compo!

Tools

  • Unity
  • Gimp
  • Bosca Ceoil
  • BFXR

I also have an idea of Idle (incremental) game, so maybe I will use my favorite Kotlin language for it

Despite I wrote that I am considering joining compo if someone wants we can make a team! Just comment this post or you can message me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/zankur

First Ludum Dare

Hello there, this is my first Ludum Dare and I hope I learn a lot in terms of timing, planing and understress development. See you soon, good luck and have a lot of fun, all of you participating.

I'm in.

Not much to say other than planning on doing the jam with a friend and regardless of the theme, we've got plans to make a game about a certain astronaut going around slapping people.

Probably will be using either Unity or Game Maker and AESprite or Gimp/Blender depending on whether we decide to go 2d or 3d with it, I have no idea what he plans on making music with.

Good luck all!

first ludum dare

I feel like I tryed posting three times allready :D well theres not much to say: it's my first ludum dare and I'm very excited! :)

First Ludum Dare and I got an idea lemme tell ya

I've been making shooter game prototypes for a bit now and decided my personal challenge is making an interesting non-violent shooter game. I'm sure I've played some before and there are some out there, but it's something I haven't attempted and gonna do this in 48 hours (or say I meant to do the jam all along when it isn't done in time).

See you on the bottom of the charts, folks.

Game Icon Size?

Last Ludum Dare, my game icon was blurry. Does anyone know the optimal size for game icons on this site?

I'm in. I think...

Most of my projects have an amazing start, then.... that's it. I'm somewhat confident that I can make a game that will at least be playable, but the quality will most likely leave a lot to be desired. I'm very excited (And nervous), since this will be my first LD. I may, just may, probably, most-definitely have to quit early. I have friends coming on the 3rd, at 1:30pm, which is 4:30 minutes before the competition is done. Good luck, hope it's a good theme, and I suck at writing comments. :nerd:

I am In!

Hopefully I can actually make something polished for once. Good luck to everyone!

Totally forgot that this was happening this weekend.

Yes, hello, we are back we are. ZDoctor and I will be up and at 'em again this time around. Hopefully I don't get bummed out and have to cram the last 3 hours like last time.

Ya buddy boy ZDoctor got the music with Audacity and Musescore 2.
Me, yes me, has got the code wrangled up with GMS2, sprite art with Paint.net and the built in sprite editor in GMS2 for animating. Also Gimp for logo's and bigger art.
I WILL be posting updates to my Twitter this time(hopefully) so hit me up 'dere...I guess, if you want.

Also I felt like dipping my toes into some poetry this time around so here's an awful haiku about this:
Fortieth:four::zero: LD.:joystick:
Grab :hand_splayed: your snacks :peanuts: and coffee :coffee:
All aboard :bell: the hype :tada: train :steam_locomotive:

I didn't train or anything and I don't really have anything to complain about, just, let's hope the theme is actually a theme.

I guess I'm in!

I have only the faintest idea of what I'm doing and I'm almost certainly not going to finish anything, but I'll be poking around in Unity all the same. Should be fun! :)

Second Time!

Hi, we're Lalaine and Keke and we'll be doing the programming and art respectively. The tools we'll be using are Unity for the code and Aesprite and Photoshop CC for the art. As for music... we're still figuring that one out. This will be our second time participating in the LD Jam. Our first time was during Ludum Dare 37 and we learned a lot from it, so hopefully we do better this time around. Good luck everyone!

First LD

I've been programming in C# and using Unity since March and I've learnt a lot, I hope it all goes well and a good theme is picked! Best of luck to everyone <3

First Jam

I've worked in unity and C# for about 2 years now. Never did a jam but I've always been interested. Finally going for it :) Thank you to the people that make Ludum Dare possible. It's always been "The Jam" to participate in. Only took me 39 of them to get around to it LOL

I'm in ! (っ◕‿◕)っ

Hey ! I'm Tom and it will be my 3rd LD ! I hope I would make a better score than last time (277th overall). I'm still using a game lib I made based on LibGdx (Java). Here a little warmup ==> https://streamable.com/alnev Good luck everyone !

I'm In! First Time :3

So I think I shall be entering this, the 40th ludum dare. This will be my first time so uh... Good luck all!

I'm in!

Let's have some fun making games!

We're in!

Hi everyone, we're very exited to participate in the 40th Ludum Dare! We've recently been inspired by racing games, so we're excited to see what we can do with the theme. Good luck to everyone!

Ludum Dare #40 Stream?

So I will be streaming my progress on the game I make, is anyone else a streamer that might do the same?

https://www.twitch.tv/brodan100105

here it is if you want to watch / give advice or just hangout to watch me suffer XD

First LD!

This'll be my first LD and gamejam I'm participating in! Let's make some games!

First timer

Hi first time for me at Ludum Dare (actually never participated in any game jam). I use C# a lot in my work and I hope it will be enough to make something remotely playable with unity ^^ Let's make some programmer arts :) And good luck to all of course!!

Lets Jam Together

Someone wanna Jam with me? Im a unity Programmer. Nice to meet you

Getting Hyped! I'm in.

I haven't participated in a Gamejam for a year or two, so I'm more than keen for the LD40 Compo!

Seeing a lot of people joining the Jam for the first time too, which is great to see. I've participated in 5 Gamejams before: 3 were Ludum Dares, 1 was a miniLD and 1 was a NASA GameJam. All with differing amounts of success, Gamejams are tricky beasts!

Its the perfect time for a GameJam as back in September I started a '100 Days of Game Development' challenge, where day 100 will be the final day of 2017. Today is the 69th successful consecutive day of that challenge and I've been spending a lot of time getting familiar with Unity and brushing up the game dev skills. So it will be good to spend a huge chunk of time over the weekend trying to make something fun!

If anyone is interested in seeing my 100 Days Challenge so far, the Full 100 Days of Game Dev Playlist here: YT Link

Otherwise see my profile here on LD if you'd like to follow me, my work and my ramblings on social media!

Tools:

-Unity (Game Engine)

-C# (Programming)

-Blender (If I go 3D)

-GIMP (2D/Textures)

-Audacity (Music/SFX)

-Bosca Ceoil (Music)

Also I'm thinking of writing another post, covering my 'GameJam Philosophy' before the LD gets going (if I can find time). I've picked up what I think are some good tips and approaches for GameJams, based on my past experiences. Since theres a lot of new jammers, it might be good to share!

-Alex

I'm in again

Weather in Belgrade will drop below zero this weekend, perfect time for game development. As nature gets frozen the energy escapes into spiritual realms and inspiration runs rampant, also who would want to go out when it's sub zero outside. This time I'm hoping to maybe make something cheerful, or story driven at least, depends how the theme works out for me.

Write your game in Go

Livestream

so since this is my first time im gonna try and stream so i can maybe get some help for some of the viewers so if ya wanna help me pls go follow my twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/raszk

I am so new to this :)

i have a question: if I do things for games with tutorials on youtube, is it considered cheating? does that mean that i plagiarised someone elses code? thx for attention

I'm in

OK 3rd LD. I'm really in to <3

Game Maker 1.4

I am In

1st LD. Let's create something this weekend.

Good luck!

Wishing you all the best this weekend!

Eleventh jam in a row!

I might not be able to get any of my usual collaborators, Marte (maybe) and Morten (can't), onboard with me this time, but I'm not about to break my personal streak since LD30! 😎

BEHIND THE SCENES of my 1st LD compo !

Hey everyone :) ! This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare ! Even though my Saturday morning will be taken up (philosophy exam, since I'm still in horrendous high school), I'll still be creating something :) ! I'll surely be making a small post mortem video of the game I create on my Youtube channel : BlackthornProd !

Anyway I wish the best of luck for all those that are getting ready to create something this week end ! Cheers :) !

Greetings to all gameJammers!

I hope everyone is and will be having a great time on this jam.

This will be my 2nd jam and pepper.

Am looking for a team to join in as a programmer (GML). :nerd: Send me a message or tweet me @playzap

Have a good rest for the week. See you there! :punch:

God Save me, but I'm doing LD 40

2nd Ludum Dare. Hopefully I'll do a better job this time.

Planning to use:

Coding: Unity 2017 Asset Modeling: Asset Forge [if applicable depending on theme] Graphics: Photoshop

Good luck everyone and let's all have some fun!

Rich

Our First Jam!

Crazy excited for myself and @Dozabro to take part in our first game jam with Ludum 40 (whether or not we succeed).

We have gone by many names in the past, but as of recent we call our dev team miniLuv(); and we are looking to make a name for ourselves in both game and software dev.

For this jam we will be building our game with Love2D (with Atom as our text editor), making sweet melodies with either BeepBox or Garage Band (depends on the theme), and creating art with Aseprite and other pixel-art tools.

Looking forward to jamming with everyone and I hope we can make something awesome and fun!

Final Voting Round

I can't wait for the Final Voting Round. I know most think the voting is the most boring part of the Ludum Dare. I politely disagree.

This is exciting being able to see everybody's choices evolve and change! Now as the Final Round becomes nearer and nearer, I become even more impatient.

First Ludum Dare!

Entering LD40.

Game Engine: Unity

Graphics/Sprites: Aseprite

Sound and Music: Me and Audacity

We're In.

My team and I are set and ready for another Ludum Dare (Jam of course)

We'll most likely be using - Unity - Photoshop - Spine - Whatever tool our audio guy decides to use - Google Docs - Blender

also, apparently we are aloud to use our own frameworks as long as they are published before the jam so, we may use the Visual Novel framework I made for GGJ a couple years ago for the game A Ritual In Far Too Many Words. Not that I think anyone would, but if someone decides to use the framework to make a game I'd love to see it.

I'm not sure that we'll use it or not, but figured I'd post it here just in case we decide to.

I'm in!

This is my third time in LD. This time I'm going solo, so it's going to be a challenge to create a game in such a short span of time.

My tools are:

GameMaker: Studio 1.4 PyxelEdit PaintTool SAI FL Studio Mobile LMMS Audacity

I wish to everyone good luck and good times!
