There is only 4 days for the end of the competition and only 4 rates needs to earn 40 rates for my game. So, welcome to my game, we can do it! :)

Feedbacks from people who have played are polarized, funny, boring, not enjoyable etc. Anyway I'm proud of it as it is my creation no matter what it looks like.
Come play my game it has lava lamps! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/beer-belly-or-bust

Even though my game already surpassed 20 ratings it still needs 2 votes in humour and 1 in the mood category.
Hey LD jammers!
I know some of you are keen for a post-LD game jam, so I'm hosting the Movie Game Jam in February, where you make a game based on your favourite movie scene! :clapper: :projector: :sunglasses:

which everyone will have a random chance to win just by participating! :trophy:
PLUS we've organised YouTubers and streamers to play your entries and give you great feedback!
You can also join our Game Jammer Discord community and follow MovieGameJam!
There is also a follow-up game jam in March called Meta Game Jam ->
I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has played my game. I've played ~90 other submissions and have received a whole bunch of ratings in return. According to the itch.io dashboard, my game has also been viewed 191 times!
For my first LD experience, this has been incredible.
I'm probably not going to have any more time to play before rating ends so I thought I'd highlight some of the great entries I've played (in no particular order):
Finally, here's one last shameless plug for my game! Retro Rocket Run
Heya!
This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare, and i was wondering how karma points work, and how to get them. I also would appreciate if you maybe could check out my test game thingy.
Good luck with playing and rating games, and have a merry christmas! :P
I most likely won't be able to rate any more games, so my goal of 50 ratings probably won't be met using natural ways... but I'll try this:
Consider having a look at my game. Web build available! Thank you.
"Eight More Drinks, Please" can be found here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/eight-more-drinks-please
I'd love to get just a some more feedback on how to improve my game and I'd love to get a few more ratings from all of you lovely individuals. That's right, even you! If you could just take a minute to drop me a quick rating and hopefully you'll have a fun experience doing it. :)
Check out Pug Pub!

Pug Pub still needs more votes so please try it out and leave some delicious feedback! (PS - It's a web game so it's easy to try!)
Also, we finally have some time to play more games, so leave a link to your game so we can try yours out as well!
The same quirks and bugs but wrapped in holiday themed packaging. I present you the More the Merrier - holiday edition!

Available for Win, Mac and Linux
Happy holidays!

Similarly to the post below, I spent a bit of time redecorating my game just in time for Christmas! Rather than chasing after ketchup bottles, in Snowball Quest you're stuck on an iceberg in an Ultra Extreme Snowball Knockback Showdown against your arch-rival: SPLIT SCREEN PLAYER 2.
If you're interested, Check it out here! It's on the same page as my actual jam submission, but in a different download.
Unfortunately there's only a Windows build available :( but my original game has a WebGL version that should work on your OS! :)
Merry Christmas everyone, and best of luck in the scoring afterwards!
Merry Christmas everyone!
I have made the first version of a remake of my LD40 game. You can see it as a "Christmas present" from me! You can also give it away to anyone precious to you! That's a fine idea, isn't it?
Continue of https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/winter-sleep/i-just-want-to-write-annoying-thing @cubeeo so now i must be guilty because of i turned to write like others or was writing like that before screenshots?Actually after i thinking(my english) my main goal isn't just try to rush make game.already I can do it in each 3 days. Main goal is quality and for quality i need good feedback.may people get me wrong when i say rate please i meant give me feedback not just choose stars. If i dont get feedback why im in jam,my sister give more feedback.also sometimes i think nobody see my game because of (balance) i dont write fast shitty comments like others . After publishing game every fucking fast commenter came to my game and decrease balance. It is fucking PARADOX!.i dont want to write detailed comment when someone didnt even try and just commenting. I tried write shitty comment few times for increase balance but it was over 60 . I dont need rating or shitty comment or being on top . I just want feedback for improve myself. Summarize i'm still glad there are some guys wrote good comments after i wrote blog that about i dont want "awesome game" comments but others are annoying and make me invisible because of balance.and for deal with it i need to be part of this shit Edit: @cubeeo yes i duplicated one image wrongly. I will change with right one when im on computer

Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la, la, la!

Not much time is left before the winter festivities kick into full gear, so we decided to celebrate in our own special way by re-theming our click-click-click-em-up Desert Express in another postjam version. The titular desert is now covered with tons of snow, the enemies have all dressed for the occasion and the player is now tasked with the delivery of gifts, instead of some nondescript boxes. The soundtrack is also more Christmas-ey in this version.
So, those pesky bandits are back and now they're trying to ruin the holiday by stealing presents from Santa's special delivery train... while wearing Santa hats. Is this a failed attempt at a cunning disguise or merely a seasonal fashion choice? Alas, we may never know. But what we do know is that someone needs to stop them and there's gonna be a lot of clicking, so a touchpad is still not recommended as the input device for a brave gunslinger defending the precious cargo.
Check out postjam-xmas build for your preferred platform (Windows, Linux, macOS) on the itch.io page of Desert Express and you'll get to save Christmas (or your preferred winter holiday).
This postjam build also contains what we think is the most important feature: the steam engine now actually produces smoke! Choo-choo!
Happy Holidays everyone!
Hey I'm going out drinking for the night, but I would love to wake up to some fun Christmas games to review. Post in the comments and I'll review in the morning!

Thank you all who voted on Runaway Magic! You guys left me some awesome comments, and ideas on how to progress forward outside the jam! Progress is quietly underway to build something far greater than it is now!
For those who haven't played it, you can find it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/runaway-magic
For everyone else, have a great holiday and good luck on the final days of play+rate!

A big thank you to everybody that has taken the time to play and rate our game! We've gotten past the danger zone, but we're still looking to play more games and get more ratings!
So, if you still haven't tried the game out, come and give it a go! Do remember to comment after you've rated, so we know what game to play and rate next! Also, if you have any recommendations on which games you liked the most, put them down in the comments below, and we'll check it out!
And, yet again, more gameplay gifs, because it took me forever to make them. Plus, everybody loves gifs, no?

This has been my first ever ludum dare and I am certainly intrigued to see what people thought of my little game. Unfortunately i wasnt able to get enough done (in my opinion) this year but next year i hope to continue with this fun little project which you can check out here
Now I have a LOT of free time (finally) so ill get back to playing and rating games, I'm very happy with the fact that i surpassed 20 ratings in just the first couple of days and I want to return the favor by playing any of your games, link 'em!
Hey guys, seeing as time is running out I'm putting out a distress signal for my game. I haven't reached 20 votes yet so if you still have some time on your hands and would like to help me out then please play my game and vote (feedback is always welcome too).

Yeah, we did it! Space Crash already has more than 40 rates. Thank you all! It's pretty good result I think. Next 3 days I will be waiting for results.
Overall, It was very cool competition for me. Good two days of developing game and the month of testing another game and advertising my game. Fine experiance, I think.
Thank you for your support! Stay in touch and good luck for you all!
I don't want to sound "beggy" or anything, but I am in desperate need of ratings! I want to make it to the leaderboard this time around! I need 11 ratings! Nice holidays from space! But not all gifts in space are delivered yet... Can you help Gleero and his friends out?
Have fun and celebrate this christmas.
Hello all. Xmas is here, and for that I published 300 new free steam keys for my Compo entry Greedy Dungeons.

Pluck a key from the list here : https://gist.github.com/nilsmunch/2ed4e0a96ab80ba16f373a878dac2b30
Please don't forget to also rate the game here : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/greedy-dungeons
Since the play+rate is ending in 3 days, these keys should hopefully last us the last stretch. Once play+rate is over, we will update the game with some polish, new music and some much needed bugfixes ;)
Merry Christmas Jammers!!

True to the spirit of Ludum Dare, I'm finally leaving feedback to all the developers who rated and commented on my game. As usual, I'll leave a detailed and honest comment about your game. I know it took the holidays to finally catch up on my backlog, but better late than never!
Want to check out my game? It's Stuck in Parallel, a dimension-traversing puzzle game. Also, it's in danger-zone: it has less than 20 ratings:
Happy holidays!
Take the day off from playing and rating, and play with your family instead of your computer.
MERRY CHRISTMAS (or what ever holiday you religion celebrates this time of year). I'm 2 RATINGS AWAY, I would appreciate it if you could go over and rate my game! It's a wave survival game!

Hey everyone!
I noticed that i rated 30 games, but my "Game" is still stuck at 9 ratings. I do not like self advertising, but i'd be awesome if someone could check mine out!

Merry Christmas!
Looks like our game isn't receiving any ratings, even though we have rated 18 games. If you guys are interested, please check our game ! Don't hesitate to post the link to your games if you want us to test and rate it !
Only two days left for ratings! It's your last chance to rate the TWO games that team Cocoa Moss made this jam:
Goodnight Sheep, an interactive story about how having too many thoughts can prevent you from falling asleep!
Samurai Shaver, a Rhythm Heaven-inspired music game where you slice hairs to the beat!
Thanks so much to everybody who already who already rated our games and commented on them. It's been really great hearing all of your feedback!
Well, I've got 20+ ratings, and it was faster than I expected.
Nevertheless, I'd like to get some more ratings. So, if you still have some stars available, play Taser Loser!
...? Oh, sure! That "dangerous to go alone" story. Take this taser! :D

Thats all I wanted to say. The game has been played a lot of times. I've received very good feedback on every platform. So much people have rated it (over 100 ratings, thats, like, WOW).
I've been playing a lot of your games and I'll keep doing until de very end. This LD has been very important to me, it gave some motivation, because I see now that games don't have to be perfect, only fun.
So, I'm improving A Platformer for Ants, learning how to properly use the Unity2017 tilemaps and I hope this ends in a complete super fun game. And if it does, it would be thanks to you all.
And remember, you still can play A Platformer for Ants :D

Thanks for all the ratings so far (50+). I have had great praise and helpful feedback. Before the Play and Rate stage ends, play my game here.
I hope everyone had a festive holiday!

It's been a while since the play & rate time started, and now we'd like to share with you some insights about our entry "The more hair you have..." If you feel like playing this short HTML5 game, you can do it here before we start with spoilers :D
Let's begin talking about the theme. At first we were working with many straightforward interpretations of the theme, but suddenly we got to this one about women's hair and we found it really interesting. It's still a literal interpretation of the more - the worse, but we could alter it in-game in order to negate its original meaning. So it was something quite simple, but with a twist. Also, we like games with some content about social issues, and thought that this was a great opportunity.

We chose a flat visual style. Something functional to make sure that every player gets it, but at the same time pleasing for the eye. Main character's design was made very carefully: we wanted an average girl, neither skinny nor fat, neither tall nor short, and definitely not hyper-sexualized. You may argue that she is a white girl, and that's not representative of course, but we made it for a reason: we needed high contrast between skin and hair. As body hair is core in our game, it must be easily seen. Anyway, we know that maybe there was a better way to solve this issue. On the other hand, for secondary characters we have 3 skin tones that spawn randomly in-game.

These people are the ones who shout at the girl because of her body hair. As you can see, they don't have neither eyes nor hands, and their heads and bodies are square-shaped. That's because we wanted to depict them as closed-mind characters with very poor emotional and social features. Moreover, you'll notice that some guys have got chest hair: that's true hipocrisy, folks ;)

The tweezers are a key element in the game. The player is forced to use them, as they're the only element that can be directly controlled. Moreover, the game's visual language tells the player to use them in a particular way, that is, to pluck the girl's hair. However, the truth is that the player can choose not to follow the game's instructions and "pluck off" all those jerks instead of her hair.
The core idea of the game is to get over the common prejudices related to women's hair. It is not a call to stop plucking your hair, but rather a statement to say that even when the rules are so clear, they can always be questioned, and eventually defeated.

Although the gameplay is not very complex, there are several possible playthroughs depending on what kind of player you are. If you target the jerks as soon as they appear, you'll get to the ending soon. But if your first response is to pluck her hair, you'll notice a shadow that is slowly covering the girl's body. The shadow gets darker whenever there is someone shouting at the girl. If you remove her hair completely and all the jerks leave, the shadow will stop darkening, but it will only get brighter if you actively use the tweezers against them. With this feature we wanted to represent the girl's self-esteem, that gets damaged not by her body, but by other people's judgements.
If you keep plucking, eventually the help tip will appear on the screen in order to give you some clues about the ultimate goal of the game. Below you can see the help text on the left and the ending text on the right.

We're not going to talk very much about programming because the game is pretty simple in that aspect. Just say that it was made with the awesome Phaser Engine, and that the source code is available at github.
Well, that's all! Thanks for reading, and don't forget to play and comment if you have not already done so!
You can now press R to replay the game (both in the game and in the game over scene). This is a new feature only in the HTML 5 version of itch.io, NOT in newgrounds. If you want to play the original version, you can play the HTML version in newgrounds.

There are only less than 3 days left for play+rate. I would really appreciate if you can check out my games and add some more votes. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/speed-journey
Thanks so much if you have played my game. Show me your game and I will play it.
Big Pockets has 20 ratings in all categories except audio, for which it has 19. If you're interested in experiencing this bouncy super-spy puzzle platformer, then grab some headphones and throw us one last rate.
You can find our game here.
Happy holidays, and keep jamming!

It has been a while and I barely found any time to continue work on my LD40 Compo/Jam Entry "Neon Hell" (check them out here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/neon-hell and here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/ld40-sirpumpy), but the holidays luckily gave me the opportunity to implement the new graphics and shader I was working on :)

Enough screenshots and low quality gifs: Enjoy!
New in 0.2.4 compared to the JAM version: - Fully overhauled graphics - New color grading shader - Quicker controls - Enemies do not spawn at insane rates anymore - An alternate (direct) control scheme and alternative keys - A "help" screen - Various bug and performance fixes - 3 different weapons
Upcoming changes: - Bigger arena - Different enemy types - Overhaul of the weapon system - UI overhaul - Smoke trails will be replaced by light trails - More unique buildings - Animated backgrounds - Background events - ...
I welcome your feedback, be it here or on my compo/jam entries. Thanks a lot!

I was planning to start playing a bunch of LD games the day before Christmas, but I got sick. My game, Lore Finder, has enough ratings to receive a score, but I accidentally managed to turn off ratings for mood for a while and it's a very moody game, so that needs 4 more ratings to hit 20. I'm still too sick to really play games and afraid my game won't be able to get scored for mood. Help me out please?
Lore Finder is a 2D platforming Lovecraftian horror metroidvania with a Windows download and a HTML5/web build.

A post-jam version now is available on Google Play

I know people have been dying to get hold of the soundtrack to my game I'm Driving My Truck, so you may be excited to know that it is on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/vilcans/im-driving-my-truck
Disclaimer: I may be totally wrong in the level of excitement this causes. I have prioritized other things than promoting the game, so not many people have even played it. That's a shame, because it's awesome, at least if you like a challenge and don't mind missing gameplay.

This is my first Ludum Dare, that is why I decided to create a pretty standard game. It is a tower defence style game.
You can play it using WebGL and there are also builds for Windows & Linux!

I created this short trailer video for the game.
Watch it if you are uncertain, whether you want to play

2 days left to vote so I'll be spending quite a bit of time playing and rating other people's games! I'd love some more feedback on mine too! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/pacific-parkour-league-ppl Thanks! (shameless plug^)
We still need some ratings and would love some help.
Blalb is a mix of Katamari and a twin-stick shooter. Pick up everything and fight for your spot on the leaderboard. If you make it on the leaderboard, your Blalb will enter other peoples games and attack them too.
Pro tip: Pick up the red enemies. The more you have the more guns you shoot

Hello everyone from the LD community, we would very much appreciate your help with checking out and rating our game. The team has had a very busy month indeed so we pretty much haven't been able to rate much games, but finally since the Holiday break has finally come we're dedicating to rate some more games now. However, we are still in need of some reviews in order to qualify for the ratings so I'm also making this publication to get a bit more attention. Thanks a lot everybody, here's the link:

We're into the penultimate day of Ludum Dare judging, and I'd like to to take the time to thank everyone for playing, as well as the kind words and feedback provided.

I'm aware that the game may not be traditionally "fun" (as some of you have pointed out), but I hope I provided a worthwhile experience. I'll be honest, my primary intention was to create something that felt oppressive, and an attempt at an interactive constructivist propaganda poster. I feel that I was semi successful.

I had a blast making the audio for this. The voice of the player, the soldiers and the propaganda guy on stage are all me on my microphone. I basically put some text into google translate (Russian), played it backwards, then tried to imitate that in my own voice, reversing some parts and splicing whatever sounded good. I then did the same but using Windows text to speech for the female announcer in level 2. I definitely spent a little too long on audio in some places. I mean, there's even some background music that plays in the alley in level 2... which was cool, because I've never written music before (hence why I hid it in the alley). I'll share a full postmortem some time in the new year.
I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in me extending this idea further - but perhaps it's just better left as an experiment?
