LD 43 November 30–December 3, 2018

My second Ludum Dare :D

I even got allowed to skip classes on Monday for this (which is always a great thing) .
Well, with this comes a bit of pressure, but I am not complaining since I have 3 entire days to work on my game, and I know many don't.

As is tradition...

... I'm in!! I got game maker. I got Bosca Ceol. And I got a lot of time. Let's see if I can make something good. Good luck to all y'all

6 Hours left! 6 Hours left!

Here we go! Almost there! Let's hope the theme doesn't suck (even though it will), I'm ready for my 4th Compo and I can assure, my most successful one (confidence is the key to success), I barely even know what I'm saying anymore I'm too excited. I won't actually know about the theme until 5 hours after its annoucement because I'm not staying up until 2am just to find out what the theme is (also I learnt from last time where I literally couldn't sleep because of how much I was thinking about the theme).

I got my schedule ready to go! I've been adapting it since the very first compo I took part in. Comparing this schedule to my last one, this iteration focuses more on polish and less on thinking time/ breaks (a compromise I had to make) instead I'll be doing more 5 minute(ish) long breaks with two, one hour breaks sprinkled between both days.

Looking back at all of my previous LD submissions I've noticed clear flaws in all of their developments:

  • *LD40: "Jonny: Life of a Procrastinator": *To be fair, this was my first actual game ever but my biggest mistake which I could still make now is over-scoping and trying to do something that's WAY, WAY out of my area of expertise (never be scared to restart).

  • *LD41: "Jump and Draw": *My first platformer. This one mainly struggled because of how inexperienced I was with platformers at the time (though this game has probably taught me the most out of any project I've ever worked on), otherwise creating a foundation which was riddled with poor implementation. Another big flaw was as the bugs started pilling on at the end, rushing through my code and leaving parts of it uncommented or in general poorly written.

  • *LD42: "DOS: Deletion (of) old stuff": *Another platformer! However this time round I actually knew how to make a platformer. Again, this one struggled with poor implementation, in fact so bad that I genuinely had no clue how to add proper art for the building blocks of the stage so I just used Gray box sprites. Biggest issue by FAR however was making the game WAY too difficult, like, unbelievably difficult according to some people.

Ahh, isn't self-reflection nice? Anyway! Strap your seatbelts, arm yourself with your drink and food of choice and get ready for 48 (72) hours of ~~HEEEEEEEELLLLL~~ FUN!

Also for anyone new I recommend you check out some tips I wrote last LD for anyone new

We're in folks!

Hi everyone! I'm Dr. Aghs and we are Sidereal Works. An italian group of friends who enjoy playing and making videogames. We are currently developing two project. Anyway, we're in for the LD43 :) We want to challenge ourselves and we are ready to kick-in. Gl and hf everyone!

Any ideas for simple web game frameworks?

I sometimes ponder trying something new even though it's crazy to learn during a Ludum Dare. Does anyone have suggestions for a web-capable game framework that is very easy to pick up?

I always do Flash which despite being antiquated, is super easy to get going, and works on most any Windows system. Plus, the FlashDevelop IDE is a joy to use.

I feel like every time I look into a HTML5 / Javascript-ish system, it ends up being super flaky on different browsers, has tearing, has sound problems, or some other issues due to the variety of browser quirks. However, I figured I would ask in case someone can change my mind!

I'm in! Battling with flu...

I will use: - Laptop, from the bed 😷😷😷 - BABYLON.js WebGL 3D engine (https://babylonjs.com/) - Blender - SoundBox Synth (https://sb.bitsnbites.eu/) - ChipTone for effects (https://sfbgames.com/chiptone/) - PyxelEdit

Help plz

Any one know a free music maker I can download for well music.

New Theme Poll

http://www.strawpoll.me/16949875

DISCLAIMER: This poll isn't cheating. The results in this poll reflect which themes are more LIKELY to win. For example, in the previous Ludum Dare, the theme One Minute was at the top, despite Running Out Of Space winning. Anything in the top 5 or so can easily end up being the theme, depending on how many people participate in this poll. Oh, and I am that guy that created the theme poll for the last LD.

Ready or not ? I'm in !

Hi jammers ! I hope you're well and get hyped !

Jam.jpg

This is my 3rd LudumDare as solo French developer. I'm a programmer, so graphics & audio are still the hard stuff ^^ (Working with Gimp2 & Audacity)

But for the first time I decided to use a Game Engine 🎓 (Not my fault if I like the old school programming style xp)
So, if I don't tilt for a Haxe project, I decided to work with Unity.

I look forward to receiving the theme ! 🙂

Don't forget to 🎉, 🛌 and 🍳 !

Good Jam to everyone !

I'm mean

Gonna kick some ass :D I may go with a team but maybe it's just me? Got an exam tomorrow morning then I'll start working. If it's just me, programs: Godot, Krita, Reaper... Good luck y'all, Have fun!

I'm in!

First time on my own but the rest of my team is also making a game, so I'm very curious about that as well! :)

I'm in

Hey. I'm going to use UE4, Blender and maybe Krita / FL Studio if time allows. I'm curious for the topic :)

First time LD,

First time LD, going into compo like a brave train going off tracks. Not sure when I am suppose to state I am doing the compo or if there is somewhere a check box I should mark.

It's gonna be tight!

I can actually do a compo and not have to skip school, but it's gonna b a tight setup. This is my second Ludum Dare in a row! Good luck all!

I'm in

This is my second LudumDare. I moved to a place far away from a big city. Let's see how it goes without anybody interrupting me in my process. My tip: Go for a walk during the game jam.

Have a good one!

We're in again!

This LD is going to be a special jam for Jam & Swoon: We will hit it off on the Identity Jam in Berlin, and take the game from there and continue working on it on Sunday, and maybe Monday.
