whoops!
Just accidentally unplugged my laptop that doesn't have a battery. Upon rebooting, it decided to update. Save early and often folks!!

We're working on a rough premise, where the player must avoid an ever expanding slimy ooze as they navigate a puzzle-filled dungeon. For tonight, I've been working on some rough tileset art. Each in-game tile is stitched together using a group of 4 sub-tile graphics, to reduce the number of total sprites we need!

An earlier draft:

P.S. I am a child. For reference, Wang Tiles.
Great work team
Been working on the game for a few hours and have some rudimentary mechanics game. Player will be equipped with a lantern which they can increase the light level of or decrease the light level of, with monster(s) responding accordingly.
Looking pretty simple right now but it's already moving along a lot faster than the game I worked on before, so I'm excited!

Haven't nailed down a tone or theme for the player choices, so that's going to be a little bit touch-and-go for now. Background changes based on light level but will hopefully have actual images at some point too.
I'm making some good progress with the mechanics for my game! https://youtu.be/y8IJz7wzGFM The basic idea is that walls are closing in on the player, and to push them back you throw enemies into them.
So I made some progress, but really need a break now. Can't concentrate when programming. I wanted to have at least something playable in the first few hours, but it wasn't meant to be. My game will be some kind of board game, where you have to capture territory similar to Go, although visually I going for something akin to Chess.
Nothing is more soul sucking than doing 2D physics interactions in Unity and realizing your shit's not working because you accidentally added a Box Collider and not a 2D Box Collider...
I remember playing Snake game on my nokia mobile. Running out of space is pretty close to that isn't it?
It seems so far away and the time has never seemed shorter than with this jam. There is so much to be done I cannot believe this is all I have to show so far.

I've got vines moving down the screen and walls. Woot! God, I'm never going to finish this thing on time.

Day 1266, we're still waiting for 3Ds Max to get installed!

We decided to center our game around kind of being trapped in a hard drive that is running out of space. The goal is to escape from the slowly corrupting sectors. The game itself is a platformer (it's definitely WIP, Phaser 3 has quirks with collisions). The main problem we're facing is getting stuck to sides of walls when you jump into them. I'm sure there's a solution out there, but Ben and I are continuing to experiment with our options. It's currently 1:16am, I want to try working on the game for atleast four more hours. Ben will continue on the game around noon-ish and I can sleep while he's at work. As my first Ludum Dare, it's definitely not as stressful as I expected (I say that, just watch it be x_x), but I think we're doing alright. By the end of tomorrow, I hope to have the final art complete. I will share more progress tomorrow!
I'm also streaming at: https://www.twitch.tv/jaredyork
Cadet's log: Day One. Before you run out of space, you must first run into space.

I finished the auto-aiming and the 2 firing modes. One for planting bullets and the other for shooting slimes. (it'll make sense later)

I still have yet to make the camera less jumpy.
My fastest jam so far. Check out this minimalistic game.

Dodge blocks and create new ones to gain bigger score!

:smile:Have fun and good luck everyone!
We're finished coming up with ideas. Time to sleep and choose a winner tomorrow. Let me know what you think we should pick.

Things are going pretty well, i think i might be able to finish all the code today.
Im really thankful to the competition for giving me a topic as i was stuck on deciding what i should make a game about.
Imma get some food now then get back to work.
After ~2 hours of thinking about a game to do I've come up with an small idea... its like a puzzle game with random generated pieces, I want to make some levels with different difficulties (Background song is "Puzzle Pieces - Saint Motel")

So done for today... now time to sleep! Good jamming to those vampires that doesn't sleep at night or have different timezone!
Fun Fact: The first version was extremely easy and boring to play, until I found that something in the algorithm wasn't working as expected, it was a huge improvement after fixing that... This reminds me to that horrible Alien AI typo

I always try to get something fun on the first evening of Ludum Dare. Even though I've had more time this LD (with the earlier start time), I've also been ill today so needed to take a break.
In spite of that we have a very rough character would can be dragged and thrown around under physics. He seriously needs a tune up and dampening - but those are tomorrow's problems!
Have a try for yourself:

You can grab any part of his body and throw him around by click, dragging and releasing.
