The sky is falling

I've always wanted to make to make a game set on a floating voxel island, ever since I saw this sick post from back in 2015. (The post is even older, dates to 2010!)

Well, now's my chance

I loove the theme for this Ludum Dare. Running out of space. It's a core mechanic behind two wildly popular recent games, Fortnite and PUBG. Constriction of space is a simple, elegant way to force players to move, improvise, run into each other, and interact.

I also love how it's the exact opposite of the old generation of wildly popular game... Minecraft, of course, has an infinite procgen world that stretches forever in every direction.

So what if we put two and two together? Voxels, floating sky island, big chunks breaking off and falling down into the void. The island gets smaller and smaller, the remaining players closer and closer. In the end, only one will survive.

:sparkles:

Hello there

Came home from a late night dinner to see LD42 had started!

Just had to jump on the bandwagon. :)

Screen Shot 2018-08-11 at 1.02.21 AM.png

I just completed the basic functionality (type in a word, delete and submit works, it reads the file to see if it's a word or not, adds it to a list depending on if it's a word or not. got the countdown timer, game start, and game end screens.)

Tomorrow, I will be adding the main mechanic that makes this game Running Out Of Space. ;) follow me to see what it'll be!

With just basic visuals and sound effects right now, there's also a lot more visually that I'd like to add tomorrow!!

good luck, everyone!

Is this a showcase? [P.S: Suggestions etc Appreciated]

Been working since the jam started. Completely deleted my old project and restarted. More than pleased. The "Running out of space" theme will be implemented such that the level closes in a box, which can even result in the level being impossible. All in all, I think I'll take a coffee break, and hopefully make the deadline.

Day one starts!

Running out of space, eh? Not the worst theme, not the best. I guess I have to start brainstorming then!

Late "I'm In!"

Hey, running out of space sounds fun, I'm in! Good luck every one!

Bag!

I tried to add the possibility for the men to bleed. But a very strange bug came out: when I beat one little man, ALL began to bleed!Снимок.PNG

Hosting the jam for 2 teams!

We were 3 artists, 2 musicians, 4 programmers and a game designer, so we decided to challenge ourselves and make two separate teams! There are some new members on the team, so it's interesting to share the experience.

After a long brainstorming session, both ideas sound great on paper. We have a really good feeling about this jam.

Good jamming to everyone!

I'm in!!!

I haven't done one of these in ages! HYPED!! :)

The Universe is Shrinking!

Hey all! I hope your jam is going well. This is my first Ludum Dare, but my second game jam in total. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed by the jam theme, but I decided to lean into it.

I have no idea what to call the game yet, but the premise is simple enough: A 2D platformer where you can only jump if you have "space" - a collectible found throughout the levels. If you run out of space, you can't jump. Easy enough, right?

To make things a bit more intense, the edge of the universe will also start to creep in from the left of the screen. If you can make it to the wormhole at the end of the level, you can survive the end of the universe... for now.

*Audible Groan* ... Day 1

And another theme I didn't exactly wish for. Ugh. Fine. I went to 'bed' at 0:30 with 2 game ideas outlined in my plan. The reason bed is in single inverted commas is because, I barely slept! I physically could not bring myself to go into power down mode. I only started sleeping when my body gave out on me. 2AM in the morning. Well at least I have an idea. Going to start making the prototype now. Good Luck! Hope you slept well!

Day 1 Done

poster 3.PNG

Done with day 1! Mostly I've just made a few different animal art things, but for me art is the tricky part! The gameplay I'm imagining isn't too complicated, so tomorrow I want to get the gameplay + a few levels working.Maybe a little more art. It's fun to be working on a project that actually has something fun to look at and post!

Now for 7-ish hours of sleep and a full day tomorrow!

Looking good

This is my first time doing ludum dare and its looking good. I am 2 hours in and i have movement and animations. I'm also quite a newbie at making games, since i haven't even been doing it for a year. Hopefully everybody is doing good and good luck . typed this while eating chips

First Day - First Jam

Wow, this is a lot of fun. Everyone always complains about the theme for these events, including this one, but I actually had a bunch of fun ideas. My biggest things for this jam are, keep it simple and get it done. I hope everything still remains problem free and I can actually submit a finished game in 39 hours. Off to bed for 6 - 7hours fo sleep, hopefully!

Brainstorming

After sleeping I came up with a few ideas while brain storming, picked my favorite and will start prototyping now. Due to some change of plans I now have the whole weekend to work on my game!

Here my brainstorm ideas: 59B241C5-3D79-4439-9BA5-C4F8A58D5074.png

First Jam, fun as hell

This is my first Ludum Dare Jam and everything looks good so far, this theme actually gave me lot of cool ideas, ran with one and now I'm pretty happy with how it is going, 12:35 am here, I think I'm gonna go until 3 or 4 am and then sleep a couple hours. -BlxckMass

I'm in! (10 hours after the start)

The theme gave me a cool idea to make into a game, but we'll have to see how fun it actually is.

For the game I'll be using Unity, Aseprite / Photoshop, BFXR, VS Code and Sunvox / GarageBand.

Good luck to everyone!

swift defeat, oh well

i had a pretty good idea and spent about 8 hours fleshing it out only to realize it kinda sucked, i couldnt find a way to make it fun, and i was exhausted. im probably gonna do the next jam (if college will allow it) but for the time being ill keep working on my other bigger project

Day One Complete

I'm tired.

So, is Bob's cat.

I suppose that's decent progress for Day One.
