LD44 Finale Stream - Tomorrow from 18:00 GMT / 19:00 BST / 14:00 EST

Hey all, after playing 60 games on stream this year - I'll be doing one final LD44 stream on Tuesday the 21st of May - 18:00 GMT / 19:00 BST / 14:00 EST. I'll playing a handful of selected Ludum Dare games in the hours leading up to the results and then checking out a few of the winning games!

It won't be an open queue system like normal; it's more of a chance to explore specific games I enjoyed and discover a few new games. It will be about enjoying what makes Ludum Dare great! I want to have a stream where we can get hyped for the results and see which games managed to top the different categories this year.

I'll be staying live during the results, so feel free to hang out and chat about your results and how you feel! Remember, LD has never been set up to be a competition with a "balanced rating system" - we all know it has its strengths and weaknesses - so don't let the results take away from what is a great event. It's about having ideas, turning them into a reality, and letting other people experience it for their selves!

Post-results I'll be playing a couple of the top ranking games live on stream to see what some of the winning games have to offer this year!

Speedrun Your Life where time is only what you have

Speedrun your life is a challenging endless runner with fight mechanics where your time is limited but you can choose to spend it on upgrades.

Many of you judged the game too difficult (many souls were lost reading the controls) but we decided that it was part of the game.

Time is running out for the jam... and so is yours. 0Cefgt7Ztj_1.gif

You can play it here : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/speedrun-your-life

We are gonna spend the last day ratings game with a score under 20 vote.

Thank you all for playing our game :)

PLAY AND RATE

Finally at the top of my own Leaderboard. :)

It took me a while to beat the previous top player's score of 17 Waves, but I finally got there!

Leaderboard-5em20/em19.png

Thanks to all the players on the Leaderboard for playing, I really appreciate it!

Here's the video of my run:

(I get the very overpowered "Demon Glove" upgrade around the 17:30 mark).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-zM7qe_qko

As you can probably tell by watching (or even better, playing), the difficulty curve could definitely use some balancing. Interestingly, it ended up being something like... - Wave 1-4 fairly easy // few enemies, short wave duration - Wave 5-9 pretty damn hard // lots of enemies and projectiles but you're not too upgraded yet - Wave 12+ way too easy // after you acquire the top upgrades. I wanted the fully-upgraded player to feel god-like and overpowered, and I feel I achieved this, but I'm not sure how long it stays "fun" at that level.

Also, the kill quotas that are required to complete each wave get astronomical way too quickly, approaching 6000 kills required at Wave 18. So I'll have to readjust that, as well.

Background music coming soon, hopefully later tonight, as I'm sure you can feel that that's missing as you watch the gameplay. Please stay tuned as we count down to the results tomorrow night!

Also, I'll be playing and rating some more games tonight so leave me a link to your game if you want me to rate it!

Please try your hand at "Darkling!" HTML5 works fine, but the PC version is recommended so you can save your Username. Also, this is the POST JAM version, so if you're going to leave a rating, please rate the Jam version!

Regarding The Scoring System On This Site

For my game, each category does not have twenty ratings. However, as you can see here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/forfeiting-your-soul, it says the total ratings received is 20.375. Will I get ratings for the categories that did not receive 20 ratings or more.

(Sorry if a similar post was repeated. For some reason, this site is being glitchy in that it did not allow my previous post to be published).

I just had a crazy idea, and I'd like to know what you think...

So in my LD game, called Sigillis, you draw things, and that's cool and all, but what if it was to go a step further. *Actually, what I have in mind is closer to a hundred steps further. *

Wait shoot, before I explain my idea, I'll need to explain my LD game (sorry, not meant to be a promo). You draw things on the screen, then the game uses an algorithm to figure out what symbol was drawn. When you draw a symbol, a spell is cast, and you use that to defeat the enemies.

What if I was to take this idea into a VR experiment, where you draw a spell with your wand in first person, and use that to cast spells that actually feel cool? There could be all sorts of immersive effects to make it actually feel like you are waving your wand to defend youself. Enemies could be approaching from all angles, and you've gotta beat waves of them to win.

Okay, so that's my pitch, I'd love to know what you think of this. I feel like this has the potential to be really cool (maybe even a kickstarter?). Before I get completely invested though, I really need to know what the community thinks, since (minor hiccup) I don't even have a VR set yet... I'd probably need to do some sort of campaign on Kickstarter or something similar to get the money for such equipment, so I'd love to know what you think.

Freeze Spell Demo.gif

So there's a preview of what you can currently do (in my LD game), and I feel like it would be so cool to actually stand in the action, and wave your wand to perform magic. The spells would be a whole heap cooler than they currently are, my main disappointment with my LD entry is that the spells aren't quite juicy enough...

If you'd like to test out this idea in the limited scope of my LD game, then you can try Sigillis here. It would systematically be something like this, but in a first person environment. Thanks for your time and input, JUSTCAMH. :v:
