Hi...
The reason why I write this blog post is to thank you all people out there for your great feed back. I was really happy to find out that at least one human in this world had played my simple little game and liked it. That really made my day.
So yeah.... I just wanted to tell you out there.
By the way. If you want to read up on the story of my game, I wrote a blog post where I go over the game and how it came together in a more detailed manner.
If you want to try out the game yourself you can do that as well here.

Have a great day.

Being a board game and card combat game, the gameplay of the Curse of Cattenburg is indeed best experienced by playing! You can play it by using the download link on the Game Page (for an UE4 game, its only 150MB which is not bad!).
In the mean time, here's a lovely video to give a sneak peak of the gameplay, created by @brainoid.

Hey guys! in order to be a little bit more accesible to the community we have released a new HTML5 (browser) build. This build does not contain any aditional changes, it's the original game that was submitted to the competition. Hi,
I can highly recomment trying out Clayxels (https://andrea-intg.itch.io/clayxels). I built all enemy models for our game RoboBlast and using it was ... a blast! :D

Clayxels allows you to quickly iterate on your ideas while you don't have to worry about importing as you model directly in Unity. A perfect fit for game jams imo.
Also check out our game if you want to see the clay creations brought to life.

We managed to create 5 levels for our game Sushi Ink over the weekend. Im pretty happy with them, they are tough but each one teaches you a different mechanic and we tried to make sure the 1* rating was reasonable so people could progress and experience the whole game.
Level 5 'weigh anchor' is the culmination of everything and tbh, pretty difficult. Because there is nothing after we wanted to make sure it offered a taste of the most difficult intense and mind-melting gameplay the game could muster.
The latest news is someone managed 2 on level 5! i can just about pass it with 1 and i made it! then again it was the last level made so i was fairly sleep deprived at the time of play testing!
Can you 3* the final level? can your mind multitask and enter a solid 3 minutes of sushi zen mastery?
though i warn you, level 5 is not for the feignt of heart!

Blek. We based this game on Blek.
When we discussed the idea, we thought of the different things that could be in a loop; the game world, the enemies, the items, the player character, or even the input.
When thinking of examples of each of these, we came across Blek, which was basically the only "looped input" game we could find, which made us think this was probably going to be one of the least explored approaches in the jam. I am personally a fan of Blek actually, and I have played many levels of it, so I really understood how this mechanic worked, which helped with level design.

We then started thinking on the genre to which apply this concept. We first thought of a platformer but we really liked the freedom of movement in Blek, and gravity in a platformer really limits this freedom, so we ended up making a cenital view hack and slash.
The similarity in the movement also allowed us to base some of our levels on the ones in Blek, which resulted in a faster level design workflow (none of them are literal ripoffs, because the sword mechanics and the optional collectable need it's own consideration, but some are inspired by movement patterns in Blek).

I actually wanted to implement a trail to the character to more clearly see the pattern you were repeating but ended up doing the footprints instead, which actually look better and more natural in the game.

So that's how we based Re-Slash on a mobile game.

If you already have, you should take a look from time to time, as the game is evolving a lot depending on player actions (it's indirect multiplayer !). We see that some players try to heavily change the game, and we love to see this.
Look at this ! You got to 100 starts !!
To the player who unlocked one of the game endings, congrats ! That's amazing. But it looks like some players are actively trying to discover the other ending... In almost an hour, the game went from the previous image to THIS :

Hey everybody!
As per usual, the time has come for me to write a Post Mortem for my Ludum Dare submission.
This time, I am proud to introduce to you:

Press the buttons is short escape game with a twist. In addition to looking around for some way out, you must also regularly press some buttons in a sequence. Doing so will prevent a timer from reaching zero. Which would be a dire turn of events, indeed! (Or so a charming disembodied voice will tell you)
Press the Buttons was conceived with the following tools: - IDE : Visual Studio 19 - Game Engine : Unity 2019 - 2D Graphics : Paint & Gimp - 3D Graphics : Blender - Audio : Audacity, Fruity Loops 20
Press the Buttons is my 4th game I managed to ship for Ludum Dare, but only the 2nd I could submit for the compo. My other 3 submissions were done with another account for LD 24, LD 27, and LD 46. Managing to ship a game for the Compo is a big deal to me. Especially since I somehow managed to do so without compromising too much on the quality of the game.
That's all I have to say for now. I hope you've had as much fun making games as I have!

Some people asked about the first HONK while seeing HONK II, you can play it here.

Some fun facts:
Original game was a joke, I was frustrated because of LD45 theme and decided to make something fun;
Titled Goose Team also was a joke based on "Untitled Goose Game" Eventually, it became a team name for game jams if I don't work alone;
Each game jam Titled Goose Team has a different people, except me.
@sava-tsurkanu is the second oldest goose in the team, he worked with me 2 jams in a row.
HONK II is closer to the initial idea of original HONK, but that time I couldn't manage to make such a game during Ludum Dare;
I'm pondering about HONK III (D) for Ludum Dare 49;

hi guys i made a macOS version of my game check out
YOU CAN PLAY ORBITAL LOOP IN WINDOWS AND MAC OS
PS : I don't know if it works on a macOS so please check out and tell me if it works or not.

hey ludums, i also made a "time loop with clones" game for ld :D instead of being many small levels it's a single interconnected map, and you have to collect 8 gems. there's no fail state and you can always win by abusing more and more clones (you can jump in the air if you're near a past clone) but here's the interesting part (and surprising + totally accidental) - the game has a lot of depth. my personal best with 10 loops. then someone managed to do 8. i tried to beat 8 and couldn't, so i set a challenge so that the first person to beat 7 will get a key to the full game i'm working on. and someone beat it in 7. so i did the same challenge with 6. and someone managed that too. the bounty is now open for 5, but i suspect it's impossible, but i'm not sure why. 4 is impossible for sure. i wonder if someone can beat it in 5, if it's even possible

In The Curse of Cattenburg, you form a party of feline adventurers and combat against the vile rats of the kingdom in an original card game.
[credit to @spacey3d for our wonderful character illustrations]
I'll explain one of my favourite party setups:
The Mage is our main source of damage, with the ability to one shot most rats! Her stun ability also helps control fights early on against multiple targets.
The Tank's main role is to defend the mage (defending a character shares the damage dealt) as she can be killed easily. He is a natural survivor too, with a huge 45 health pool.
The Bard brings a high wisdom stat, which giving the party 6 action points to play with per turn! His special ability boosts the party's attack power too, which will allow the tank to dish a more respectable 5 damage!
Feel free to let us know some of the characters you've enjoyed playing with! The crit and dodge master Thief? The health restoring priest perhaps? Or maybe the ever-reliable Warrior?
Inspired by a comment on our latest jam game Radiant Rewind, I've been thinking about different controls for games...
I'll be using my own past Ludum Dare entries as examples, simply because they're the games I know best. The following thoughts should also be applicable to any other game nonetheless.
In the past few LD games I've been a part of making, we used different kinds of controls. My first two games, Spring Clean - DO NOT CROSS and Writespace, were keyboard-only, while the third one, Arden's Artisan Artefacts was playable using only the mouse.
So, Radiant Rewind is our first game that currently needs both a mouse (or similar pointing device) AND a keyboard to play it.

Sparked by a comment asking for keyboard or gamepad support, I'm thinking about adding keyboard controls for the player movement now, so that it would be playable without a mouse.
Thygrrr framed it as an accessibility need in their comment, and it seems obvious now that I think about it - some people can't use a mouse or just don't own one, and strongly prefer keyboard controls over using e.g. the touch pad on their laptop.
I think this is also a very subjective issue of personal preference.
For an action-packed game that needs quick reactions, if I can't have the intuitive movement tracking of VR controllers (my favorite way of playing video games), I generally prefer mouse-only controls, because I find it easier to focus when I'm not distracted by having to look away from the screen to find keys on my keyboard.
With that in mind, if I were making Spring Clean now, I would probably build it with mouse controls instead of keyboard - not doing that back then in 2017 was mainly because keyboard controls were just easier to implement and it was my first game jam ever. But as Spring Clean is still mostly a strategic puzzle game where quick reactions are helpful, but not the most important skill needed to play it, it's not that much of a problem to not have mouse controls.

*
In puzzle games like Writespace, this is not a problem at all, because there is no time pressure, so being slow at typing isn't a disadvantage for the player. And of course the typewriter story/setting of Writespace would just not feel right with any other control than a keyboard anyway.

*
As it relies a lot on quick and precise reactions, Radiant Rewind is a very different case.
In hindsight, I would kind of like to try and build a mouse-only version for my personal preference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txWLdFpt_Ro
But that would probably be quite tricky because of the limited amount of buttons on a mouse - and it feels ok to play with mouse and keyboard combined because the three most quickly needed keys
can be reached with one hand, so I can play it with my right hand on the mouse and my left hand on the keyboard, one finger each on the ctrl, C and space keys.

*
Now you probably also think that the perfect combination of the mouse's intuitive movement and the keyboard's less limited amount of buttons has already been invented - why don't I just use a gamepad?
Having grown up without any gaming consoles, I personally just never got used to playing with a gamepad - but apart from that, I think it could actually fit the needs of Radiant Rewind quite well. You could even try it out if you can configure your gamepad so one of the joysticks will move the mouse pointer and map the gamepad's keys to all the keyboard keys used by the game (ctrl, space, C, R, and P being the most important ones, with F and Esc just needed for resizing/closing the game window and numbers 1 to 6 for skipping directly into a level of your choice).
I'm curious now about building in native gamepad support and looking into LÖVE's possibilities for that. But that will probably take a while, so if you want to try our latest game and can't or don't want to use mouse and keyboard, you will need to have your gamepad configurable as described above.
Now that I've shared my thoughts on different controls for games, I would like to read yours.
Do you have a generally preferred way of controlling a game?
Do you choose the games you play based on the possible controls?
Are different keyboard layouts a possible problem for players in a different country?
What other accessibility issues do you see with different kinds of game controls?
Well now you have :)

If you'd like to play the game you can do so here! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/airstralian I apologize in advance for the difficulty curve, it's definitely the biggest problem with it but in spite of that I hope you have a boomerangin' good time!

Caught in the Sheriff's loop has hit 20 ratings, thanks to everyone who played it and left their thoughts! for my first solo project I consider this a huge success, I'm excited to see where I ultimately place and look forward to future progress, I've already applied much of the feedback I received in this project and will have a fixed and updated version ready after the official end of Ludum Dare 47. For fairness of judging I think it's best I wait until then to put the update out.
Feel free to continue playing and rating the game though, I look forward to hearing your thoughts!

"Choose your fighter" is overrated, better "choose your dancer"

Shoot aliens, upgrade, and reach the end in this casual, addicting game!

Hello,
This is my attempt at shamelessly promoting our gamejam entry! It's called Enclosed and it's a logical 3D puzzle set in a seemingly infinite environment.

Hope you try it and enjoy!

Anyone else seen this EXACT comment on a lot of games? It's just copy paste. One of the replies I saw to this comment said that they didn't even rate. Very disappointing to see that this person has been successful in this spamming since their game has a lot of ratings and comments. Can't find a report button anywhere so not sure if there's anything to be done about this.
Have you ever been in Hell's Hotel? I don't think so. Aaaaaaand....what are you waiting for?!
P.S.: I'll give you feedback if you'll give me yours, deal? ;)
