Ludum Dare 37 December 9–12, 2016

Last Second Entry

Got it in, just as the timer was running out.

The game is incomplete, but in the spirit of the jam, I went ahead and entered what I had done.
The game is titled, Calamity Station.

See you next time!

FLESHBOUND – “One Room” Jam

https://nym-and-permilias.itch.io/flesh-bound

Hi ! This is our first Ludum Dare entry. Hellbound is a 2D action/adventure game, in which you play a demon fighting to escape his cell.

The game is missing a few details, such as a boss fight, and lacks an ending. That will be added in the following days. The update will be available on https://nym-and-permilias.itch.io/ .

Directed by Martin Jacob

Programming by Léo Marambat-Patinote

We Just Made It!

We got our game submitted just in the nick of time!

Check out Sweet Dreams, where you play as three kids dreaming in a room at the same time HERE!

It’s a purrfect restaurant simulator!

Meet the needs of your restaurant guests to maximize their happiness and your profit!

Our second LD together and we wanted to actually make a playable game this time! Though we felt much stronger for our current idea than the one in the previous LD we again fell short in scructural skills and overall experience with making a game.

However, our demo hopefully shows the basic concept of our idea and brings forward your inner restaurant owner! Tell us what you think!

Henry Snackleworth’s Weird Day – complete

Henry Snackleworth’s Weird Day

Phew, it’s been quite a ride. I can’t imagine why I had the idea to get all of this into the compo, I should really learn to set more realistic goals.

At times I wasn’t so sure that I would be able to make it even in the jam but here we are :)

Play it here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=83463

And we are done!

That was an awesome experience! We are very happy with the results, and we hope you like it too!

We used GameMaker as the engine and Aseprite for Graphics!

The main problem for us was that we got a bit late on the prototipe testing, and we feel the game maybe a little imbalanced :(

Hey!

I’m writing this to let you all know People-Pets has been published!

We weren’t able to finish the game per se, but we have released what we got done.

Click here to go to the game’s page!

I’m going to sleep now. It’s 4AM in Madrid and I haven’t slept at all trying to get things to work.

See you all tomorrow, and have a nice day!

Missed it by _that_ much…

It really sucked to have rushed the last edits in trying to get a structure to my (still incomplete) game and then get caught up in a few bugs that took me a 10-15min over the deadline ><

https://stuartmd.itch.io/one-room-37

I pushed the game in its working state, in case anyone fancies giving it a go or look through the source – hopefully I’ll have time to build the extra levels once I’ve recovered from a cold and lack of sleep! 😀

*cough* submission is still open technically. 😉

Finished my casual “ball-in-maze” game, Lavender. Phew.

Play Lavender here

Submitted in the nick of time – WebGL is so error prone!

Focused on music, shiny looks, and simple mechanics that could be classified as “Zen” if the time crunch wasn’t so stressful. This should probably be a mobile thing.

Getting the music just the way I wanted it took a *lot* of time (he-yo, pretentious music school alum here). It’s simple but can be very effective.

WebGL presented its own issues, which I’m too tired to discuss but will probably write something about on my blog.

Give it a play if it looks up your alley. Thanks for reading, and if you submitted a game as well – great job and congrats!

Nest; Our first Ludum!

Our game, Nest, took all weekend for my buddy programming it, and several hours for me to do the art. In the end we have a playable game! Some parts like the menus are unfinished, and we didn’t have time to implement some animations, but the sound was a pleasant last minute addition!

My first idea was basically Smash TV with one room. You control a guy constantly being assaulted by different minions. By the time I had the knight and the monster drawn and animated I realized this probably was about as much as I could do in the time I had (due to other responsibilities over the weekend.) And besides, having enemies teleport in is kind of a lame trope at this point.

So I flipped the idea on its head and turned the room into a monsters lair which the people are assaulting. This gave me an objective, protect the eggs, and allowed me to flesh out my much nicer monster sprite.

Check it out!
Anyway, we both learned a LOT and plan on making more games in the future, using what we learned here. Enjoy!

Sorry for unfinished art (didn’t have enough time).

Shrunken

This is my first Ludum Dare. It was a ton of fun, and I’ll probably be doing it again.

Here’s my submission: http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-37/?action=preview&uid=95083

I made it with GameMaker Studio. Unfortunately, I don’t have a license (OMG it’s $150), so this game is Windows only.

I didn’t get time to add something to tell you the controls, so here they are:

  • Arrow keys to move
  • Space to jump
  • Enter to interact with things

I didn’t get time to make an indicator for the interaction to show if it’s doing anything, so I’ll tell you the two things you can interact with are the left mouse button and the soldering iron.

hi

hellow

Space Station Simulator unfinished. Maybe LD isn’t for me?

SpaceStationSimulator-2

My game that I unfortunately didn’t manage to finish working alone in 72 hours. I have learned a lot during this weekend, but I feel very disappointed. I wanted to make a game and instead I ended up with another unfinished prototype that I was working on this entire weekend. Maybe this project was too big or maybe LD isn’t for me. It’s a type of game I had never tried making before, but that’s the whole point of LD, isn’t it?

I might still play some of the submitted games after I get enough sleep. I can’t believe I wasted so much time on this project with no apparent results.

Failed jams can be frustrating, it’s happened to us a few times too. Our biggest take away on those failures has been what you said: “I have learned a lot” It’s not wasted time if you got something useful out of it, even if it’s what not to do next time.

Best advice to give you is do the next jam too! Failure is what we’ve learned the most from, and being afraid to fail will mean you can never set yourself up to succeed.

I was unable to finish this time too. It happens to the best of us, I’ve been doing LD’s since 2012. There are a lot of things I could say about this.

2 person Jam, A Very Holiday Special Space Cat Christmas Time!

It’s been four years since we discovered Ludum Dare and the two of us were really excited to have the weekend free to participate! We tried to take a theme we weren’t super excited about and turn it into something fun to make. Huge success! We had a blast doing this jam!

Robot Loves Kitty Presents:
A Very Holiday Special Space Cat Christmas Time!

It’s a “jetpack QWOP-like”
catlg
(web version has weird audio glichyness)

Before the theme was announced we were joking around about making it in space desert and christmas themed. a desert isn’t a room, but 2 out of 3 isn’t bad!
The two of us really enjoy doing unusual things when we can get away with it, so we spent an hour or so after the theme was announced coming up with a good concept, then went right into making it (while trying desperately not to increase the scope as we went). We Live Streamed the whole thing if anyone wants to see the dev process.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it!

Incinerator room

Yay I made it!

here’s my Entry:

Incinerator Room.

You are stuck in an incinerator room and you want to make it out!

(It’s quite hard, you’re not meant to but there is a win state)

Dont get squashed, dont get burned, reach the top!

Quite pleased with the result, hopefully you like it too!
