Welcome to ludum dare and good luck!
I’m busily finishing up an important little project (that was supposed to be done last week). So I’m unfortunately going to be unable to enter the compo, or work on the little things I had hoped to (unifying the site look and such).
However I’ll be around IRC as usual, offering my wacky flavor of commentary, and whatever administrative help I usually provide. You’ll probably catch me joining in on the various goof-off extras (Desk photos, food photos, motivational posters).
MINI LD #3 should be interesting. I’ll release some details after the compo. Stay tuned.

LD#11 was great fun, and so I look forward to LD#12.
I was hoping to have learned enough Python to be dangerous, but practicing Python during a competition will have to wait until next time. I am, however, learning about test-driven development, and so I’ll be using UnitTest++ along with C++. Yes, I will be writing unit tests for my LD entry’s code. Will it slow me down, or make me a star? I’m staying tuned. So should you.
I thought that I’d have my build scripts integrating MinGW to build a Win32 version of my projects, but I’ll have to rely on someone else to port my game for me at the end.
Good luck to everyone!

YAFT . . . adding to the beginner’s luck pool. I hope there is enough to go around. 8~)
At the moment, I am looking to use YAKE and its various tools for most everything. Although, I have considered at least five other SDKs this week (including ClanLib, Irrlicht, and OGE). I wanted a SDK with a nice application framework and abstraction/extension layers for 3D, physics, and audio. YAKE provides all this and then some (Lua). The libraries I will be plugging into YAKE are OGRE, OpenAL, and ODE (and possibly a few Lua scripts). Photoshop and Blender will help out in the graphics department.
Best of luck to all,
~Abraxas~
I, too, am a first timer. I have the place to myself (and my dog) and a grocery order delivery scheduled for Saturday afternoon. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.
[this is a crosspost from my own blog that is in /planet as well, but I think it needs to be here to declare my intent to enter… and because it’s compo related.

It’s time again. Seems like just a short bit ago I was working on LD48 #11, and maybe it was. The contests are on a much better schedule now which should help in participation.
I’ve been keeping myself busy working on a reborn and re-imagined project from back in ’03. I’ll probably release more info on that when I have something good to show off. If we get a compatible theme, perhaps some of the work on LD48_12 can be reassigned afterward to my other project. Honestly, working on that project the past week has kept my skills and mind frame in the perfect place for the LD48.
Last time around I had to take time out from the alotted 48 hours to attend a baseball game. I won’t have that problem this year, though I am in the mood for a good egg and bacon breakfast at a local joint Saturday morning. I hope to remember to take a picture of that for the food compo.
This time around isn’t going to be much different than last time. I’m going to use mostly the same tools as before:
The only thing we need now is a theme!
Good luck, and see you in 1 day, 9 hours and 48 minutes!
Update: I can add my Rock Band microphone to the list above. Maybe sound effects this time! See you in 1 day and 30 minutes!

Hey everyone, not sure if I’ll have time for tomorrow’s compo, but I thought I’d at least up this default project. Here’s what I was trying to make:
Windows executable
OpenGL drawing code
SDL window handling code
Code::Blocks project with SDL library installed
I wanted to do this in Ubuntu, and I wanted the cbp to be openable in Windows as well. So here’s what I came up with, just unzip it somewhere, rename a few things, and you’re set to cross-compile and release your game to the masses! Oh yeah, you’ll need Wine to run the exe if you’re doing this in Ubuntu.

This will be my first real LD too. I’ve only participated in the first MiniLD thus far.
As for tools:

Stuck with no ideas to roll with? Not enough whiteboard in your life? Uncle Brian wants YOU (points finger through your screen at your face) to make the games he wants to play. Or see played. Or read about in the news. In a bad way.

Don’t blame me for that one, blame the person at Walgreens who sold me the red expo marker.

If you’re still stuck, you’re kind of screwed. You might as well give up. But if you really, really need more inspiration:

The creator of this video’s non-ironic video comments include: “me working on anew one with music ok” and “well ur face if crappy i was only begginer so shut the hell up”

My name is kiwibonga. I’m a 23 year old Computer Science drop-out! I’m a translator now. It’s an amazing job, I get to read instruction manuals for toilet bowl scrubbers before the general public gets their hands on them!
This is my first LD! I’m very excited!
I’ll be coding in C++… And I haven’t decided on a library yet… I’ll be exploring my options before the theme is announced. Sound will be a mix of raw midi commands and me breathing into a microphone. Probably.
All right LET’S GET PUMPED UP WOOOOO!!!

Hey all,
I’m officially anouncing my intention to participate in LD #12 as a supernoob. I’ll probably end up using HGE, as I know my way around it, more or less. I expect to be thoroughly humbled by the 48 hour deadline, as I have an intensely awful habit of starting things and not finishing them.
Good luck to everyone!
