This, I can do!

Hi! I’m Notch, and this is my first Ludum Dare competition.

The first time I heard about it was earlier today on the #lwjgl channel, and after considering it for a while, I decided I wanted in.

I’ll write my entry in either Actionscript (flash) or Java, depending on what game I decide to do. I’m hoping for something that gives me an excuse to do some procedural generation, although I suspect that might be a good idea for generating content anyway.

It’s 3:00 AM now, and the theme is revealed in two hours. After asking around in the irc channel, I’ve decided to stay up, so I can come up with great game ideas in my sleep.

Pre-theme Dinner

healthy food

Gotta get fueled up with a healthy dinner before you compete!  Here’s to hoping the theme is “heartburn.”

Workin’ In The Living Room

Here’s my setup for this weekend.  Laptop in the living room.  There’s a shiatsu machine strapped to my chair, though!  I will probably also venture into the actual office, because none of my good art or sound programs run on this computer (Yay, Vista!).

Same as last time (including the giraffes)

This is my entry from last time.  Nothing is really different at all.  I even saw the giraffes again today :)

The Office of GBGames

I only managed to get it clean enough to sit in comfortably a few weeks ago.

Yes, there are three separate chairs in a small room.

LD Introduction

I’m new to Ludum Dare, so I thought I might introduce myself with a short post. The plan is to enter the competition when it starts in a short while, although I suppose it still remains to be seen if I can find the time to do so :>

I’ll be using Java, and probably at least one of the below libraries:

  • Slick, which in turn relies on LWJGL. Slick is a 2D game library using OpenGL.
  • Phys2D, a physics engine for java (port of the same engine as JBox2D).

As for the game, I’m fairly convinced that whatever I make will be simplistic at best. But hey, I’ve heard somewhere that it’s participating that matters 😉 Now, I’m curious to see the other entries – good luck folks!

I am looking for Morre reeds for the B flat clarinet. I see there is a town in France named Morre. I am wondering if this is the source of the reeds? anyone with any information that could share it would be appreciated.

This is our first time to participate in Ludum Dare. Our main goal is just to complete a game in 48H. That is even challenging enough.

Hi, i don’t want to be a bad, but this is a SOLO game competition, NO teams… we are SELFISH. J :)

So the Theme Is Tower…

Last time Minimalist surprised everyone. This time, Tower did. It’s weird how surprising it is when it was voted upon!

The IRC channel is filled with talk about what can be done. I spent the first 30 minutes eating dinner.

First Meal

I made vegetable stir fry and rice. The rice came out surprisingly well. I also put hummus on pita, and then put the stir fry in it to make LD-approved sandwiches. I washed it all down with tutti-frutti flavored Jarritos.

I’m not sure what to do with the theme yet.

PoV’s totally not doing the compo… however

Yes.  I’m totally not doing the compo…

however… words and drawings are appearing on my paper.

PoV has a deadline that he’s already missed.

Totally not doing the compo.

Throwing my hat into the ring

I’m new to Ludum Dare and this competition so might as well give it a go. I’m a 20 year old  game design student and my teacher actually told me of this competition as well my classmates, So I’m giving it a shot.

I’ll be coding in JavaScript, and will be using the following utilities.

  • 3ds Max (Version 2008) , a 3d modeling program.
  • Unity Game Engine, a multipurpose game development tool.

As for the game, making one in two days is hard enough as it is, I just hope I can work with the theme good enough.  (By the way when are they gonna pick the theme anyway ?)

IT’S TIME TO BLOW DOORS DOWN!!!!

Hi folks!

I’m joining in on a sudden whim because it turns out I have the weekend free. It’s my first time doing one of these, so I guess we’ll see what happens.

I’m gonna be using C++ and SDL. Nothing fancy. Sound is gonna be interesting, since I’ve never actually done anything with sound before. I’d better have a look at some sound libraries before this thing starts…

Good Luck everyone!

Sleep

The compo starts at 5am here in Europe… I intented to sleep a bit before getting to work, but I couldn’t close the eye. Too much excitement I guess… However, managing sleep is probably an important part of the competition. Working tired gives bad results.

Yet another warmup post

This will be my second LD, last time didn’t go too well. But, at least I reached my goal of having something that ran and could be mistaken for a game. This time I will set the bar a little bit higher and hopefully have something that actually has (some) decent game play.

I will probably be using python and pygame + pyopengl this time as well, and I will try to record a timelapse to show off at the end of the compo. I might go with C and glfw instead though, I just like plain old C. We’ll C I guess, harr harr.

PS:

I hope it’s not evolution, I hope it’s not evolution, I hope it’s not evolution, I hope it’s not evolution.

ETL: Windows app to create timelapse images

Hello, this is going to be my first LudumDare, and I decided I wanted to create a timelapse movie. Well, I created ETL or Easy Time Lapse. Choose a file format (BMP or JPG), a minute interval (cannot be decimals), and click the button to begin. Tada! Screenshots will be created in a /screens directory.

Random info

  1. If you create a timelapse ever 1 minute, you will have 2880 images.
  2. The size of those bitmaps will be approximately 8.5gb
  3. The size of those jpegs will be approximately 500mb

Based on 3mb for BMP, 170kb for JPEG. The quality of the jpegs isn’t bad either, in fact, it’s great. I encourage you to try it out before hand, and sorry for releasing this so soon to the competition start but I hope at least one person will use it ;).

Link (Windows ONLY; any version should work): http://willhostforfood.com/users/Dazappa/ETL.exe [~500kb]

This program also doesn’t do anything fancy like adding in the time to the image. I wanted to release it ASAP.

Cool thanks! I’ll check it out. Can you restart if if you need to reboot or something?

Yes. It uses a text file to remember where it left off in terms of numbering. If you notice when you press the button to start it, the text changes to stop it.

Yeah, I know this was made in 2008, but I’d really like to use it now. Can you please rehost it, preferably on something like Dropbox? Cause the link is broken.
