“Your fear amuses me, young one.”

It’s a camp, but it’s guarded by two ghosts. You can either run and warm up at the fire pit quickly, or leave it, try to find another source of warmth.  Lighting a fire cures 10 fear, as the girl is desperate enough that even the slightest victory gets her hopes up. Standing next to a fire will very quickly drain your coldness bar, and I might add torches, which while they won’t cure your coldness bar, they’ll prevent it from increasing (unless you enter icy water, in which your torch will be extinguished and all benefits lost.

Ice water! Very bitter cold water that you can swim in… but don’t swim in it, as you’ll freeze in a matter of seconds.  Ice water is so cold that even if you’re somehow magically right next to a fire while doused in it, it won’t help you one bit. You will not be required to swim in it, but there’s a few point where monsters can throw you into it if you aren’t careful.

It’s the end of the world!

Ha! Stupid zombies will never destroy my mighty towers!

Need towers to save me from zombies

I decided that I could use “Alone” as “Alone in a post-apocalyptic city which you can rebuild, only to have it destroyed by zombies”. So I did. 😛

Last Update before I go to sleep.

So far I have basic enemies, controls, collision checking, pathfinding for the enemies, random level generation, simple gun upgrades, health packs, dying, health, dashing, a menu and a few good particles. Calling it a night so I can get a fresh start tomorrow! It’s java so can be run on anything that supports lwjgl, basically 😀

Super Square Zombie Killer

Super Square is spawned into a very strange and dangerous world. There are no other sentient squares, only square eating zombies. Square comes packing heat with a built in arsenal!

Progress after day 1:

Most of the programming is done so I have tomorrow to try make some interesting maps and other content.

Tools:

  • Lua
  • Love2d
  • mtpaint
  • sfxr

End Of Day One!

This was a great day of programming!

I managed to do alot of programming more than what I expected for today.

I decided that tomorrow I won’t go to school so I will have more time to really finish my game and cleaning all the bugs.

Timelapse Of Day One:

Here You Can Play The Game!

Here You Will Be Able To Watch My Live Stream Tomorrow!

Darkmoose onward

Just finished a crash course tutorial on Unity3d, about how to make 2d games on unity. Seems straightforward enough. This also means I will not be using Gamemaker.

Development beings with only a a day remaining for the deadline. 😀 The joy, the joy… Why am I doing this to myself again?

The game is starting to shape up

The red boxes are enemy spawners that will be hidden later on

Left to do:

  • add more enemies
  • add color and detail to the graphics
  • add something for scoring and a highscore
  • other stuff

First Playable Demo

I haven’t named the game yet; it will come to me eventually. What I have, though, is the first playable demo of my entry available for all to play.  It has mostly all the mechanics in place, the rest is just some map magic.  You can get it here.

Enjoy and if you encounter anything super strange, let me know :)

(Mostly) Complete Level Editor

Well hello there!

I have almost finished my level editor. It currently saves the world data to the models folder using jME’s BinaryExporter (wow, that saves a hell of a lot of time), and you use the mouse to place tiles, and the scroll wheel to cycle between tiles and objects. Right clicking removes the top-most tile (basically, the first one the picking ray hits).

I’m going to try using the lighting system to add some moody effects next, after I create some more graphics. It turns out, making nice tile graphics really isn’t that hard after all.

Ahwell

I can’t seem to get any of my code to work properly so sadly I won’t be submitting during this Ludum Dare. At least I actually applied this time. I was always too nervoud before. Anywho, good luck to everyone else. Can’t wait to see the entires :)

Real life interfering, pretty artz, concept troubles?

Well, this Ludum Dare shit got pretty real today. Yo. As I’m sure many of you have experienced, real life has a way of interfering with crazy gamedev weekend. I had to scoot off for a few hours, but still managed to get quite a bit done nonetheless. Gijs drew some awesome stuff as you can see. That’s why you should leave art to the professionals, kids.

We hit a snag when it seemed our game wasn’t much of a game at all, but we’ve had a good long brainstorm and decided how to (hopefully) make the game challenging and fun while still retaining our original concept.

You can try out the rough, un-fun version here. More to come tomorrow!

Thanks! I agree, and all the credit goes to @MrRosenbaum!

Progress so far

All of mechanics is done, tested and working, at least I think so.
I’ve started making first level. All of the sprites are still samples besides main character.
Tomorrow I have to finish all levels and replace sprites.

I hate this theme 😛

I’m out.

Heart just isn’t in this, this time. Probably just tired of programming for a time, having done so much of it recently. Best of luck, everyone.

Back-End Improvements & Considerations

No dirty jokes, please. I’ve been working on my back-end a bit.

I’ve now got some nicer systems for showing messages to the player. That seemed kind of important since that’s how the storyline (such as it is) will be conveyed.

It doesn’t make for very pretty screenshots, though, so here’s another one of the troubled pilot – complete with a new texture smeared lovingly all over his face.

Dinner time

I still don’t have a huge amount to show, I’m still getting the game all working properly and then I look forward to getting on with all the art for it :)

Just made my dinner though so I’m having a short break with a lovely garlic & coriander pizza naan with beans and mini hot dogs as a sauce and cheese with some shredded ham hock on top. All brought together with a bottle of No17 Bullmers :)

Yum 😀

Looks freekin’ tasty! Happy feedin’ I’m going for some p’tato chips over here!

LD22: Suddenly, progress!

Not entirely sure why I seem to be managing, but positively surprised. Pleasantly, even. Progress seemed really slow today because I was mostly faffing around with AI scripting, but over the last couple of hours things suddenly started coming together into a first semblance of playable content :3

lookit all the little mans!

And after a quick shower break, back to work!
