LD22 December 16–19, 2011

Another declaration

Using some old level loading code from a LD game I made for LD20 that was unfinished. Here is a link: linky

I’m also using some physics code from there too, not much though.

(Thats it, I’m not using graphics from that game.)

Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community PRIOR to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post.

A Character Creator

Spent some time making a nice, responsive character creator.

Next up is finishing the different sprites, then creating the mini games that our lone reporter will be dealing with!

gg

I might not make it this time. I’m in a dead end with my project, and staring dumbly at the screen with no gameplay ideas is just making me feel pissed. And the last thing I’d do would be to scrap it and start over again.

Like I said I do have a working prototype, but it’s embarrassing at best, and I’m not going to submit junk I’m not even satisfied with myself.

Move Water

Screen Shot 2011-12-17 at 20.59.48.png

You can now move water!

And other cool things!

I’m starting to build more of a little story and a structure to the gameplay, although it will be simple I hope to have people hooked for a while .

And if you have any suggestions about anything, just ask!

Fourth Preview

(first preview, second preview, third preview)

Here is my fourth preview of my game. I added elevator, switches, doors, pressure switches, torches, spikes and the ability to bounce on your partner!

I’m very proud of the elevator animation and its steam. First time I animate smoke properly! It’s not any good, but it does the trick and I DID IT! – also, take a look at the bounce animation, I loved doing that haha!

Here’s the original idea, basically it’s about dragging your companion’s dead body back home from a very unlucky expedition.

Play it here: Rolpege LD22 (Alone) – Preview 4

You control the character with arrow keys / WASD / ZQSD / ,AOE

You drag the body with the down arrow key, S, O, Space or C.

And just like that… he’s gone!

I probably shouldn’t have spent as long as I did animating these cheesy clouds of smoke, but it’s good to have some feedback when someone actually leaves their house.

This means I have a whole one person of actual gameplay! Unfortunately my ideas sheet has a list of about 20, and I’ve just done the easiest, so there’s loads more left to do.

Music Generator

For anyone else who sucks w/ music like me, I found this….since my compo entry basicly plays like robotron on crack i’m SOOO using this.

That’s it for today

Gonna get some sleep and I’ll be back with you lot tomorrow. Good luck to everyone and thanks for all your posts, I’ve really enjoyed seeing what you’re up to. As always, my progress is on my blog. G’night from South Africa.

Spent the best part of today working on a single game mechanic. Proved a little more complicated to implement than I’d expected it to, but it was at least a pretty fun challenge.

It’s all hanging together now. See this teaser build to get a feel for what I’m trying to do.

Now I just need to do, well, everything else. Loads to go, but at least the big unknown is done.

Oh and yes, bonus food + desk photo. Had home made chilli for lunch 😀

Lonely Robot: progress update 2

There’s not much new to see in this screenshot as I haven’t done anything with the art since the previous update, but I’ve made a lot of great progress overall. The main game mechanic (chargeable grenade launcher that allows you to jump higher by shooting the ground) is in place and working well, I’ve still got a few weird movement bugs to work out that I run into occasionally. But for the most part, the gameplay is done. I just need to make many, many more levels.

So, I think that’s what I’ll be focusing on.  Making more levels, basically “finishing” the game.  Then I’ll get sounds and music in there, do something (read: the most that I can) with the art, and be done!  I think I’m at least halfway done now, so I’m making good time to finish by tomorrow night!

It’s been a lot of fun thus far and I’ve learned a lot.  I’m really glad I finally decided to take part in one of these.

First steps

Since I’ve decided to do 3D I’m going to go oldschool style and create the art with my voxel editor (Paint3D). Already managed to get a (very poorly drawn) TV into the default Unity project using 3ds max to convert. Obviously I’ll drop the default project after I get the basics 😉

Also managed to import some sounds. Unity already magically makes them 3D, yay!

For Glory!

Yes, that’s what my little game is currently called.

You can download the game here: [download ForGlory_LD.exe (3MB)]

A screenie:

At the moment it’s just the menu, tutorial, a testlevel and stat upgrades. Next, I’ll start working on saving/loading and sounds.

Playable WIP day one

Click to play (flash): NOTE:Flashing lights, beware!

The Chosen status Update

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ progress2 progress3

After Lazing around for some time and Preparing a nice meal I finally decided to call this Ludumdare of and play some soul calibour..

But somehow I started to work on the gamethis is the current status I’m quite happy with the overall athmosphere but still no gameplay…

It seems this is going to be a pure mood game..

Since there’s a mood category this year…

To the left!

I’m currently tweaking the mechanics of an infinite runner where you have become insanely lonely and start chasing imaginary friends. Here are some of my horrible placeholder gfx:

Oh, right… you will be running TO THE LEFT! (although I’m already seeing why it would be easier to make the game run to the right.)

progress!

going for a kind of bloody gory beat-em-up with ‘alone’ somewhere in there. for now, just screwing around with attachment points, so i can support hats and costumes and stuff. hatshatshatshats

Dinner #1

image

That’s bread with tomato (typical catalan dish) and a bit of cheese (it’s common to have cheese, jam, etc. on top of that – but I don’t like meat) – it also has salt and oil (and usually garlic but not this time).

There’s also beer, so I can get a bit of inspiration! :)
