Nice to know!

Gearin’ up

I’m gonna be using Flash CS5 as I usually do to create my masterpiece.

All my art will be done in Flash CS5 with a cheap tablet, all my music will most likely be recorded in Cubase Le4 with my guitar, a borrowed bass, a midi keyboard, an amp, a mic and a bunch of sexy VSTi’s.

My previous LD games have been Point n’ Click games, this will probably use keyboard input! Whoa!

So.. Yeah! I’m staying up untiy three o’ clock to see the theme, then I’m going to bed to dream sweet game ideas

Updated Workspace

My new desk setup…was a pain but i’m triscreening with CRT’s. The monitor on the left is thanks to MaxiVista.

Fun Fun Fun

This will be my first time. So yeah… Totally spent $15 on red bull so I think I am ready.

I will be coding in Java and using Java2D.  (It will be an applet) I will also use:

Eclipse

Paint.NET / mspaint

sfxr

Code base: davidjokinen.com/default.zip

I think this is all I have to do..

Lets do this, then.

I thought the compo started 5 minutes ago, but I guess I’ll just have to get the theme when I get back from fishing. Bugger.

I’ll be using Flex (mxmlc), Flixel, GIMP, maybe sfxr, musagi and audacity if I feel like making sound (it’d be the first time..) and a whole lot of elbow grease.

Expecting to spend about 10-15 hours total on my entry -> scope limitation is probably a good idea. Will be my first time doing an LD on a windows machine.

Last Minute Rig Photo

ASTERISCUS' Rig

I had hoped I’d be showing up with a bunch of extra libraries and tools to declare at this point, but I’m still more or less as woefully underprepared as I was a few days ago.  And here at the last minute, rather than reading more docs like a consummate professional, I’m taking poorly lit pictures of my desk?  I’ll never pull this thing off!

The main rig you’re looking at consists of a custom-built AMD X2 4000+ with too little RAM and too many hard drives, a 720p Olevia LCDTV doubling as a decent 26″ monitor, and an additional Viewsonic VP171b with fancy-pants portrait-rotating stand I picked up for cheap.  Also pictured is one of my Thinkpad x41 tablet computers running GIMP (artists: look into buying one of these on eBay if you can stomach not having a built-in disc drive or a full-size hard drive bay – using my A+ certification skillz I managed to get a fully-featured, pressure-sensitive, stylus-usin’ tablet for under $100!)  There’s also a third PC off to the side, but because it’s running XP like the other two it’s going to be worthless as a testbed.

Note also the Python books I’ll be desperately referencing all weekend, the genuine Super Mario World cartridge as desk tchotchke, the awesome Jakks Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga/Mappy/Pole Position/Xevious Plug-n-Play (now somehow considered a collectible? Dammit, I’m old), and a super secret hint at where I might be going with my game’s protagonist if the theme I’m rooting for wins.

Have fun whuppin’ me, everyone!

Also, the basecode.

Nothing special about my basecode, just a very simple Flixel (with Flixel power Tools) project for FlashDevelop with very basic directory structure. Sadly, I had no time to any proper preparations during this week, so it’s gonna be “learning on the fly, baby” – just like the last time with Flashpunk! I’m gonna be proud if I finish anything at all.

I’ve just gathered all important tutorials and documentations in one Firefox window, hoping it won’t crash. Now waiting for the theme announcement and… going to sleep (it’s just after 2 a.m. here). Good luck, everyone! :)

I’m in

Yo bros and hos, I’m in. First LD for me so I’m pretty PUMPED UP. Depending on the theme I’ll likely use Python-Ogre or Pygame, Reaper+bfxr for audio & photochop+maya for gfx. Rock on y’all, can’t wait to play some sweet LD games!!!!!1!

I’m in (first time)

I will use SharpDevelop C#, .Net 2.0

hope, this is not a problem, cause 2.0 is preinstalled in Windows XP Service Pack 3 and newer versions (Vista/7) if I’m not mistaken

for content creation I will use:

mspaint for sprites (if there will be any)

mtpaint (not sure)

photoshop (not sure)

cooledit for sounds

reaper for music (if there will be any)

My Station

Just ate some pre-game spaghetti. In the mean time, here is my computer.

Here is Geopixel’s set up:

Desk/Room Photo (LD Gathering)

The Game Development Club at my college recently acquired a dedicated room. So, naturally, we’re all going to jam together! We’ve got 4 participants so far and hopefully more to come!

Primary weapon revealed: the Kobo II Executive

The scripting engine with bindings, physics and the weird little sound engine, ChipSound, now available here; full sources that “should” build on Linux, Windows and probably various other platforms without too much tweaking:

http://eel.olofson.net/news.html

Win32 build + support scripts (GUI toolkit, config file management and stuff like that) will be available in a moment.

David

UPDATE:

Win32 build with the aforementioned support scripts. SDL and other DLLs included, so just unzip somewhere and start k2x.exe for… a not too interesting demo app/skeleton. Well, at least there’s a nice logo + jingle! 😉

  • Win32 build here.
  • Scripts and stuff without the Win32 binaries. (You need to build ChipSound and EEL to run this.)

Less than an hour to go,

Less than an hour to go, hear the theme, then some sleep! (GMT :-/)

I’ve spent a couple of days trying to figure out java & slick2d so here are the source files that might make it into my entry – mostly just stuff cobbled together from tutorials I found though. Best of luck to all of you taking part!

I’m in!

I plan on working with html 5, ruby, and coffeescript.  I’ll

probably use the Ralphael js framework, the cramp ruby framework, and maybe inkpad

on an ipad for SVG art.

Caffeine acquired.  Food consumed.  Wife silenced.  Dubstep started.  Let the countdown begin.

what brand of drum kit is that? I’m rocking a Roland TD-6 with some upgrades. Probably won’t get used for the competition though.

It’s actually an Alesis USB Pro kit. I’ve had it for about a year now and it’s been awesome.

It's true.

We got our team together and we’re ready to Jam. Can’t wait to see some of the competition.

I’m in for the Compo! With a computer this time!

After last LD’s disaster, I’m glad to have a nice shiny new functional computer to be doing this on! Standard declaration of tools and such:

Framework: Flixel (+ Power Tools)
Graphics: The GIMP
Sounds: sfxr and Audacity
Music: PXTone and/or Famitracker
Food: Mostly breakfast foods and beef stew
Desk: You don’t wanna know

Mandatory workspace shoot!

less than an hour left for the theme announcement, getting really psyched and thought I should share my workspace with ye folks as it seems to be somewhat a tradition by lookin’ at the posts! Lot’s of dust badgers floatin’ around, does wonders with ones inspiration! And look on the Eee, there’s a little kitten there! I will of course add a little kitten easter egg somewhere in the game! I freekin’ love kittens!!! <3 Anyways, here’s my workspace:

Ludum Dare 22 – A Soundtrack (Spotify!)

So, here’s the deal.  I set up a collaborative playlist for Spotify that I’ll be listening to throughout the event.  Link:

Ludum Dare 22 – A Soundtrack

I’d appreciate music being added and people joining in to jam out on music as we take the challenge!
