Ludum Dare 37

I’m in! for the first time! +first post

Hi!

Gonna be participating and streaming :) This is not only my first LD, but first ‘game jam’ event of any kind I’ve participated ever!

Might be using Python if I get py2exe/pyinstaller/similar cooperating before LD starts. Right now generated .exe throws arbitrary errors and I am having hard time pinpointing the problem.

If I dont get it solved, then I’ll be using Haxe, which I already have work ready & stable. Might go with Haxe also because I have been using it far longer than Python.

Oh well, back to doing LD preparations!-Fixxel

Are you using Python2 or Python3? Personally I used Python2 for my LD34 entry and I compiled my game with py2exe but if you are using Python 3 you might have a look at Cx_freeze.

Also, good luck!

Progress update #1 – “The Navigatorium”

It’s day 2 and… I don’t think I’ll make it to compo. I had really rough time yesterday trying to come up with idea that I can finish in time. Anyways, here’s my game;

You are one of ‘navigator’ staff on a large spaceship, doing your daily, boring routine of pressing buttons you are told every day. If you make a mistake, you run the risk of ship flying into black hole or some such thing that could happen on interstellar, FTL vessel if navigation side screws up.

Player character art is still a placeholder which will be changed… if I got time.

Progress update #2 – “The Navigatorium”

Aight, made room graphics better (but still not player… I’ve started to like this placeholder player graphic), made voices for numbers you hear which you have to input to the monitor, made system for randomly picking the numbers, made system for counting stacked inputs you have not yet fed to the monitor…

… and I still got LOTS of stuff to do… Core things! … I just wont make it to Compo Q_Q I tried so hard…

Final progress update – “The Navigatorium”

My first LD game is almost done, except for couple minor and at least one major thing! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel! :)

I might continue adding things after Ludum Dare. Maybe for a week or two.

That’s looks really cool! I love the clean, panel style mixed with the “lens-distortion”.

Thank you! :) sadly, I’ve run into some pretty big problems :( I have no idea if I’ll make it in time…

LD 40

Participating 2nd time ...

... Especially if Theme is interesting :) Last time, LD37 (which was my first time), I had hard time coming up with something to match the theme, it was rather uninspiring ("the room") at least for me, so I hope this time it's better.

Gonna use:

-C# (Unity)

-Blender (3D)

-Krita (2D)

Have fun and good luck! :)

I'm in!

Last time I participated (LD37) theme was a bit meh (for me) but this time most of the themes seem quite interesting. Hope good one gets voted! Gonna be using Unity, Blender and Substance Painter. Ignite/bosca ceoil for sounds/music if got time for it (doubt it, at least much time).

Fish'EmUp! Almost done!

Almost done with my jam game which combines fishing and beatemup! (shootemup depending on who you ask). Still gonna do some minor things and then submit it to Newgrounds and Itch.io. :)

Something's being made

Hello ldjam :) last time I participated was in 2018.

Started bit late but I've been working on something almost whole day, not sure what to call it yet. Here's first video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kXkzcCDeOc

got much of the basics, level generation, spawning and controls etc done. I'll dedicate most of the time to functionality + gameplay and I'll create some 3D art stuff in Blender tomorrow. Not sure if I'll have any time to audio.

well, back to jamming.

Basic wanderer type enemy movement done

World npc movement happens when player moves - player can also stay still and let tick(s) pass.

Day 2 begins

Good morning!

Starting to work on graphics.

Yesterday before going to sleep I got basic collectibles working, HP done, mechanism for loading deeper level is done. Enemies now don't anymore walk off the edge of map.

Lots to do today, back to jamming! :)

Graphics progressing

Basic wanderer enemy graphics getting done - next their texturing. Also worked on those direction indicators.

Different collectibles & UI

Screenshot 2021-04-25 141105.png

Collectibles of different value, hp pickup + basic UI done :) done some bug fixing as well. Gotta make it more clear which one is more valuable. Also HP pickups spawn way too often.

[GriDelve] Player character done

Decided on a name, "GriDelve" ... it's grid based and you get to next level by jumping off current one, and levels are called "depth" :D so I guess it kinda makes sense?

Player character done, also bunch of stuff done since last blog post - posting more images and a video later. Starting to run out of steam but I think I'll be working on this game 'till last hour when I will publish it HTML.

[GriDelve] Simple projectile system done

test3.gif

test2.gif

Enemies move when you move (projectile too) also you can just wait for a tick to go by.

You go forward by stepping off the map which loads next level but it costs HP - which sometimes spawns in level.

Right now coins dont have clear purpose, I had idea of there being a vendor which sometimes spawns in but I don't think I have time for that.

[GriDelve] my third ldjam game is done!

This time I had most fun with ludum dare, I liked this theme :) I'm exhausted though and after I've written this blog post I'll sleep.

I did not have time to make ingame instructions on how to play it but I've tried my (exhausted) best to explain it.

Most likely participating

Havent participated in couple years. Not sure which engine to use yet. Most familiar with Unity -> Unreal -> Godot. I’ll decide when theme is out.

Blender + Substance Designer for 3D stuff, Renoiser for audio.

Of course, if theme is something im not feeling, wont participate 😅
