Good luck everyone!

My first Ludum Dare, and I’m not sure I’ll have time to get something finished, but I’ll give it a go. Discovery, eh? could be interesting.

It’s 4AM here in snowy Albion, so I’m calling it a night on my first Ludum Dare. Implemented a scripted animation controller, mouse-based movement controller, camera zoom and a basic environment. Also bubbles, but they don’t follow the player yet. When I wake up, I’ll try and turn this into something resembling a game. All done in Unity3D and Paint.net

For what it’s worth, the latest build is up at http://www.danstubbs.co.uk/Diver.html

I’m not  expecting to have this finished by the compo deadline, but we’ll see.  Night all!

and that’s me out.

3 and a half hours to go, but that’s not enough time to turn this into a game. The final straw was having to dump the level I’d just spent most of the evening making. I’ll carry on and finish it, but that’ll happen over the next few weeks, not hours. Good luck to everyone who’s entering, and thanks to the organisers. See you in 2011!

Superconnected World

Superconnected World 01

I’m a bit late to this party, but here’s my first update.

The first few hours of this Ludum Dare were spent paring down my awesomely epic idea into something I could actually achieve over 72 hours (I may still enter the 48-hour compo, depends on whether I can add everything in that I want to).

I’m going for a simple(ish) side-scrolling shooter, with a twist. The core gameplay is pretty much there, but the twist is going to take a bit longer. You can check out my progress so far via this super-secret link to the unpublished page on Itch.io

Still some bits to add, like sound effects a scoring system and one more effect, so I’ll take another crack at it tomorrow, but here’s what I’ve got so far. It’s a side-scrolling shooter, WASD or cursors to move, Ctrl or LMB to shoot.

It’s getting there! SFX and weird enemy connecting effect are working, just powerups and a boss to go before I’m ready to submit.

Some progress!

Okay, I’m in!

Here’s where I’m at after the first day

(Yes, you're killing snowmen in this one)

and here’s a build (Windows executable, rar file): Dropbox link

There’s still a bunch of stuff to fix, like colliders, audio, effects and the fact that the gun only works one time in ten (hmm… Not sure why that is yet, but I can figure that out tomorrow).

If I get time, I’d like to get at least one more level working, but I’ll settle for one if it means turning in a complete game for once.

Thanks for looking, and good luck to all in the compo!

Gameplay complete! Now for the polish…

Against all the odds, it looks like I have a complete (if fairly simple) game!

Look at his smug face. He’s about to die and he doesn’t even care.

Now to try and polish this thing to the skies. Music, SFX and some title/game over screens wouldn’t hurt.

Here’s a build of the game in its current form (Windows executable, rar file): Dropbox link.

See you in a few hours!

Finished!

It’s done, but I’m going to wait until tomorrow to submit. I won’t have much dev time, but I might be able to think of a better title than ‘Snowman Shooter’ by then.

Until tomorrow then, here’s a link to the pretty-much-final build (Windows executable, rar file) Dropbox link

Cheers, and good luck to everyone who’s entering the compo!
