I’m in!

Uh, is it too late for this? Yeah, this is my first Ludum Dare…

I’ll be using Construct2 this time, and I’m going try to go for a double purposed entry: I want to make something that fits the theme of the LD, but that will also serve as an entry for the “Underground Jam” Scirra is currently running. Have no idea how, but it’ll be fun.

Good luck to everybody!

End of the first day

Whew, that was more tiring that I thought it’d be. And I’m more behind that I expected I would be… But it has been fun so far. I’ve managed to build a solid base, but I have yet to make it a proper game. Let’s hope things go faster tomorrow! For now, here’s a GIF of what I have so far.

Start of the second day

Thus starts the second day… Now it’s time to actually make this into a game. It’ll be tight, but I hope to make it for the deadline. If anything though, I’ll probably be aiming for something less ambitious my next LD 😛 My current idea isn’t that enormous either, but I’d like to have more time to polish.

I’m in!

Took some work to factor it into my schedule, but I’m glad to say I’m participating in this weekend’s Ludum Dare! I haven’t done much gamedev lately, so I’m looking forward to it. As usual though, my goal is to have fun so I’ll take it easy and try not to overwork myself. See you guys tomorrow!

Shapeshifting… things

It has begun! Well, it actually started an hour and a half ago, but I’m starting tto blog. I just finished the first brainstorming session with my partner and we both agreed that we should take a less obvious approach than simply having a shapeshifting character.

The question we asked ourselves was what else we could shapeshift… I mean we everything has a shape, so anything can shapeshift. So… shapeshifting things… Things… What things?

And thus we came up with the idea that we want to make a game about shapeshifting the ambient! What does that mean though? Well, I’ll tell you more as the idea takes shape.

For now though, to bed so I can start early tomorrow!

It begins…

It slowly takes shape…

So we got a better idea…

To be honest, I’m not that motivated by the idea we started working with. It could be fun though, so that’s we were working on it… but then we got a better idea. A funny, motivating idea..

Did we throw everything away and started again from scratch? Well… yes, we did! Here’s our progress so far:

Hi you have to edit the picture, so its the original size… Then it should be a gif!

Gameplay done!

Now I actually have to make it pretty…

Bit too ambitious of an idea... but sounds like fun!

I don't really have time to do a proper Ludum Dare this weekend, but regardless I wanted to try my hand at making something small... Only problem is, I got a huge idea! 😅

My plan is to mash up a dating sim with an action-rpg. You're working up the courage to ask out the blob (yeah, cutting corners in the art department...) of your dreams... and to do that you have to attack them! Doing so fills up a bar, while receiving damage reduces the bar. Once the bar is full, you can engage in a visual-novel style conversation to get closer to them, with multiple dialogue choice and such. Once the conversation finishes, the bar empties and you have to fill it again.

Besides "fighting" the blob of your dreams, you'll also be able to face smaller mob blobs, that represent activities (the usual like reading, sports, etc.) which will level up your stats, making battles easier and unlocking dialogue choices.

Is it too ambitious? Of course! But I like the idea, so I'll hack away at it to see how far I get. Let's see how it goes! Nothing to show yet except for some doodles.

I'm in!

Going to be trying out Construct 3 for this LD, first time I'll make something with it. After thinking a while and looking at other people's ideas, I liked a lot the concept of space as a resource. How will I implement this? My idea is to make an action game where you play as a strange death blob. By blowing up, you kill any enemy in your radius, but you make the space around you untraversable. The idea is to make the best of your attacks because if you just spam you'll run out of space and won't be able to run from enemies. Have a lot of nice ideas I can add to this, but I wanna try them out before commiting!

Changing game idea!

So after getting my main mechanics up and playing with it for a while and... I didn't like it. Since it's still relatively early, I decided to change ideas. After laying bed in a while and staring at the roof, the idea I came up with is top-down shooter. What's the twist though? Instead of shooting bullets, you and the enemies shoot walls! Is this going to work? No idea until I try out, but due to the time left, I'll be commiting to this idea wherever it leads.

Was messing around...

And somehow I started making Tetris: The Top-Down Shooter.

Controls are wonky...

...but the tetronimo squahser shooter has it's basics ready. Time for art! ld_3.gif
