We failed to finish due to a game-breaking bug :(
It’s quite sad but there is a chance, we might get it up tomorrow and update the entry.

Lesson learnt: Code is a huge piece of cake.

Hope – Progress 3

I have no idea if I’m going good or not. I finished 75% of the level except NPCs. I’ve done a walk cycle for Hope. That’s it. I think I’ll get into programming her movement with camera. It will be a point and click by the way, I don’t want a WASD control for this game.

I did some coding. I’m not even rusty, I’m a complete amateur. However managed to make character and camera movement in the end. Here is how it looks like. She is alive! (Reminding again that this is going to become a point & click adventure game about a little girl, Hope. She is *SPOILERS*)

Untitled – Progress 1

We were too late to start this time but I think we will manage. Wish luck!
The first thing I did was to prepare some modular pieces for levels.

Here is the screenshot from Unity. I was checking how they will look like in the game.

This was just a test though. My pal will code a generator so every level will look different.

What kind of game we are doing? It’s kind of a turn-based base defense game. Enemies are coming from darkness and attacking your base and other turrets till you find the exit to the level. You have to make sure all turrets have power and somewhat connected to the source. This way it’s growing from where you started. We are planning to put various types of turrets however not decided what types.

Now I’m going to do something with turrets and then enemies.

Untitled – Progress 3

Today I started with creating all tower types in the game. We decided there will be some upgrades to some towers.

There are;
– blockades that only to block enemies,
– connections that provides a connection to the main power source,
– turrets that simply attack enemies,
– mining facilities that give you extra resources by time,
– light tower that opens up a larger area on the map.

Here you can also see main source that you start with and exit that you are trying to reach.

My friend coded the visibility and AI spawning & pathfinding. (And many other small things)
We put things together, here is an early screen from the game.

I also modeled and mapped the enemy. He is waiting to be animated. He is a victim of my speed modeling but I like him.

In the game you play as an advanced spaceship AI after a massacre of humans by this unknown alien race. As AI your aim is to protect the ship till it reaches its destination by ‘growing’ your defenses to connect the main power source with control sphere. We also plan to keep controls within ‘two buttons’, LMB and RMB.

Does anyone have an idea what we should name this alien race?

Ludum Dare 37

Haystack Quest Devlog #1

Hello everyone,

We have worked quite hard for last two days and for the first time did not share anything related to the game but here I am before going to sleep, decided to post some screens of our strange mix of genres game Haystack Quest.

We started with a very simple aim, we want to do a multiplayer game, with story in it and of course “One Room”.
Later we decided that it would be a very cool game where one of the players is playing the game master and places objects in the map.
In the end we also included cards and resources to use cards to spawn objects or use powers.

It will be playable up to 4 players online, 1 being the game master.
