Hey jammers,
I've found myself in a position that I'm sure at least a handful of others are in. I bit off more than I can chew, and despite my best efforts, was not able to formulate all the concepts and mechanics I wanted into one semi-seamless experience. I got too hung up on creating an immersive experience where your actions in the game would cause NPCs to treat you differently depending on their personality and if they witnessed it. I made a lot of progress, and figured out about 3 ways I wouldn't handle random NPC generation in the future. I learned a lot in the past 48 hours and dipped my toes into mechanics I've never messed with before. I projected a lot of my own emotions into some of the NPCs personalities and really had a chance to vent through art, for one of the first times while creating a game I really felt like I was creating art.
When I first realized I wouldn't be able to complete my game by the deadline, my first instinct was to just not submit it like I have with 2 other dysfunctional projects. After thinking about it though, for me at least, I upload my projects to Ludum Dare for myself more than anyone else, the competition is fun and all but it's also a time capsule for how much I've progressed in my game development abilities since my first Ludum Dare back in 2013. I don't want this project to be left out of my time capsule, I may have learned more in this Ludum Dare than I have in any other and I don't need win conditions, audio, character animations, or even fully functional core mechanics to show for it.
TLDR: Upload your game no matter how much you got done, you'll be glad you can look back at it in 5 years
