I’m in
My first Ludum Dare!
My first Ludum Dare!
I’ll still do this, but I’m hoping the snowman doesn’t get the votes.
I want to make a web-based game; is it alright if I host it myself and just submit a link or do you want it to be in a desktop emulator that can be submitted to the site?
I didn’t bother sharing this with my previous post; what I will be using.
Languages: php, javascript (jquery)
I’ll be using notepad to put it all together
Gimp for graphics
audacity, an ancient BOSS drum machine and my guitar for the soundtrack
a lot of mountain dew, beef jerky, ramen noodles, and frozen pizzas for nutrition ( and maybe a couple middle of the night visits to Whataburger).
And really, I don’t want it to be the snowman.
I envy the people who are meeting in real world gatherings. Anyone else in Arizona, especially in the Phoenix area?
It’s 1 a.m. here, and after five hours of rejecting ideas, I finally have one that might actually be fun to play. Now I’m just starting to code a prototype. I need some Mountain Dew, which I neglected to get earlier. Ugh.
Just woke a little while ago; time to make the AI.
Wasted too much time on a “bug” that turned out to be a couple of typos, and still fighting off possible food poisoning from yesterday’s “breakfast”. What seemed to be a sure entry for the compo looks destined for the jam instead; I need the extra hours.
I’ve submitted my game, “Dots” it’s a download for windows, but I am going to put up a web version soon.
You can download the game here https://iguanodontech.com/game
I’m in for my second Ludum Dare, depending on the theme; if it is one where it takes me half the weekend to come up with a good idea, I might not; that’s what happened on my first Dare. While I did complete a game, it wasn’t finished enough and it certainly was not that much fun to build, and fun is what this is supposed to be about.
I am in and I am thinking of doing a game in…batch! Crazy, yes, and I am trying for the compo this time; even crazier, and very likely to not work. Even more likely to suck, but what the hell!
My progress so far is – none. Yesterday was my wife’s birthday, so it was a full day, and other than about ten lines of code I did on friday night, I have nothing done. I decided last night that I was just going to forget Ludum Dare this time around, but this morning I’m up early and I’m thinking, yes, I can try to get something in. And I still want to try and get something in for the Compo, and I have 10 and a half hours to do it in. Well, actually less, because I have real life also happening today. If I do make good progress, but need more time, I might just relegate myself aiming for the Jam tomorrow. But the Compo is what I want.
This will be my third time in. I’m not sure what I will use just yet; I want to see the possible themes first.
Isn’t it supposed to be two button controls?
Actually, I’m trying to compete in the com; here is what I’m using:
I’m using my own emgine as well as php and jquery (as I designed this to be used for browser games)
gimp
a lot of mountain dew
several gamera movies.
lots of music.
I have a lot going on this weekend, so I thought I’d skip this, but about an hour ago I decided, I’m in.
I’m in and I will be testing my own engine, using gimp for graphics, and audacity for audio.
It is midnight here, 5 hours in and start was a little slow. The first hour nattowed down ideas and started working. Second hour spent an hour debating with teamabout the pros and cons of keyboard controls vs poit and click while working on a bug in the engine. Since then some placeholder graphics and no more bugs. a few more hours of coding and hopefully that can be (mostly) wrapped up and the bulk of tomorrow will be graphics. Still a little concerned with the encounter/fighting mechanics.
