MiniLD#56 evaluation

My MiniLD#56 entry, Ludum Dairy, was a quick game that I made in Java in a couple of hours. Ye, I left it to the last minute xD. I’m not going to leave a link because I’m already typing and I forgot to copy the link xD. Anyway… Bullet points 😀

What went well:

  • I finished the game for a change (sorta XD)
  • I learned how painful it is to work under pressure while I’ll 😀

What could be improved:

  • The game was awful ;3
  • Innefficient collisions
  • Awful graphics
  • Awful sound
  • Awful jumping

Yeah, maybe I could improve…

Random game timelapse

Just a random game that I’ve been making in Java. Probably about halfway through development, so nothing special. Isn’t ready to be downloaded yet :/

YouTube channel if you want to follow the development. Probably won’t post too often. I probably won’t even finish the game, but whatever xD: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEq__UwOi1m2SHuksQzCTlA

LD32

I’m in

Well, I hope so. This is my first (proper) Ludum Dare. I did some MiniLDs, but never the real thing.

I will be using:

Language: Java

Libraries: Slick2D and LWJGL probably, but I might use plain Java

IDE: eclipse

Graphics: GIMP and paint

Sound: If any, I’ll probably use sfxr, I’m not great at creating sound effects

So, I’m in. Yay.

Update

Well… I got further than I thought I would in the entire competition. So far, I’ve been struggling with art, as you can clearly tell by my Screenshotexcellent drawing skills…

Ludum Dare 32 timelapse

Well, I made a game using slick2D this jam. I had to edit my submission several times because the jar wasn’t working. Fixed it now, so I might as well post my timelapse. Play the game here.

HTML5 Game Develpoment

Recently, I’ve been looking at HTML5. I’ve messed about in it, but I’ve never really made much, so I decided to give making a game a go. So far, I have a smiley face moving around on the screen. Yeah, not wonderful. I’m definitely going to be using HTML5 for game jams in the future. It’s quick to develop; runs well in a browser across most platforms and I can develop it in Visual  Studio.

If anyone has tips, I’d be glad to here them. Thank you for reading :)

I Haven’t coded in a while

I haven’t really done much since Ludum Dare. I did some HTML5 here and there, but it’s been a while since I used the language and library I have most fun with: Java + Slick2D. Well, this is what happens when I try to refresh myself…

Making an entity framework for Java games

This is the start of my entity framework project that I’ve started (and will hopefully finish). It will be open source and free to download should you want to use it. Hopefully it will cooperate with other libraries.

I’m in

Hopefully using Java and LWJGL, Eclipse, GIMP and SFXR.

Best of luck, need I say more?

Day 1 Progress

Quite a lot more time spent on this compo than last time, which I’m certainly proud of. So far, I’ve created several rooms and have developed a bit of a story in my head. The idea is that you’re a misunderstood ghost, and eventually find happiness. I’ve been using Java and LWJGL, so I’m on familiar-ish ground. Here are some screenshots:

Timelapse

Timelapse of my Ludum Dare 33 game. The game turned more into an interactive storybook than an actual game, but at least it was better than my previous entry 😀

Perlin Noise

Perlin Noise is great. Unfortunately, the way I generate my terrain is not…

LD34

I’m in

Third time in Ludum Dare, hopefully entering the compo if all goes well. The current plan is to use Java with LWJGL, however things could change. I’d hope to be making a very simple 3D engine, but time could limit me to 2D. Collision will probably be my main worry, so I’m going to be doing some reading on that. I will be using the fixed function pipeline (sorry D:) due to time constraints. Here is a summary of my tools:

Language: Java

Library: OpenGL, using fixed function pipeline

Graphics: GIMP and paint

Audio: sfxr, audacity and phone for recording some nice natural sounds

Good luck :)

I may have over-slept…

Uh oh… So… Growth? Two buttons? Brainstorm time 😀

Ludum Dare #34 timelapse / post mortem

The end of another LD and the start of a new year of game jamming. I wasn’t completely pleased with my entry, however I was proud that I finished a game, considering the circumstances. Long story short, I attempted to make a voxel game with lwjgl from scratch; bad move. I swapped to making a HTML5 canvas game halfway through. Someone on the IRC sent me a beautiful image of a man attempting to jump off a train and onto the platform. Well, I can now sympathise with that man. It was a wonderful experience. I’m glad to have taken part, here is my timelapse:

Thank you for reading, and happy New Year :)

LD35

I’m in

Well, I’m literally making this post five hours before the competition starts. In any case, this will be my fourth time entering Ludum Dare, yay 😀

I will be using:

-Java as my preferred language

-Slick2D for a library

-MS Paint / GIMP for graphics. Yeah, sophisticated, I know…

-Eclipse for an IDE

Best of luck to everyone, I hope you’re as excited as I am :)

Thank you for watching, good luck in the judging :)

LD36

I’m in, it would seem

I just realised how close LD is! I’ll likely use Java/LWJGL, since I just seem to enjoy that the most.

Progress

We have made a decent amount of progress. There really is no gameplay, yet. I’ve been doing all the basic code we need to add in more content, while my teammate has been making more sprites than I know what to do with!

Progress Update #2

Halfway through Day 3, and we’re getting pretty close. The majority of the monsters are implemented. The only enemy it’s lacking is a boss battle. The level is pretty decent- it could do with being longer, but I’ll need my teammate for that. Unfortunately, he isn’t about at the moment, but I’m sure he’ll be around this evening. Anyway, here’s a little screenshot:
