The Deepest Level: Post Jam Content

Hi everyone, after getting some really good feedback from multiple different people, I decided that I wan't to continue development on The Deepest Level after my finals are over. I had plans for additional content and I will finally be able to add them.

It would be really nice to get the game to 20 ratings in time, but I'm going to work on it nonetheless.

Ludum Dare 47

Excited to Start!

This will be my 4th Ludum Dare in a row, and I am very excited to get started. I've learned so much over the last 3 I've done and I should have a good plan for how I'll be tackling things this time around. I'll be tweeting about my progress on my twitter @/Monado17 once it starts. I'm interested if others will be tweeting about their progress as well. I look forward to making this Ludum Dare the best yet, and I look forward to see what everyone else manages to make!

What I Plan to be Using:

Unity 2019

Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio 2019

Aesprite

Clip Studio Paint

Audacity

Back to LD after a year and a half absence

I started doing LD in 2019 and was consistently participating every event (although one of them never got posted because I didn't finish it) and enjoyed so much of it. College has kept me busy but I'm happy to say I'm ready to participate this time around again and am extremely motivated to make something awesome! Gonna try to stream a lot of my process too to help motivate me to keep going!

Development of Relics has Finished

It's been a long few days, but after lots of bug fixing, playtesting and balancing, and many, many cups of coffee later, development on my entry for the jam, "Relics", has finally concluded. I have many feelings about the game; it had it's issues, it's ups and downs. It had its fair share of odd development choices and questionable gameplay mechanics, but in the end, I'm still pretty proud of what I was able to pump out in just a couple days on my own. At the end of the day, I do enjoy my little 2.5d Puzzle Platformer game.

Making Progress!

ld5612.gif

Just like I always do, I tell myself that I'm not going to overcomplicate the project and I end up making it more complicated than it could have been if I were to plan it for weeks.

As that is the case though, my game is currently moving strong! I think I should have everything done and working in time tomorrow. I'm excited to see this project come together so well!

Vi and the Fairies is live!

I overcomplicated things once again, had to cut so much out of the final product, but in the end, I have something still to show for it! cover2.gif Vi and the Fairies is now live! I think I'll treat this as a prototype and possibly expand on the base ideas I have here in the future. Even then, hope you all can enjoy it! sc2.gif You can play it here:

10th Ludum Dare

Excited for this to be my 10th Ludum Dare event! Taking some time off work and away from the side project of turning my last LD game into a full experience to enter into the jam this weekend!

For the record, my page only shows 8 entries because one of the weekends I participated I couldn't finish because of a bug that destroyed the entire project, but I had worked the entire weekend on it

When I first started Ludum Dare i hadnt even graduated high school, and now im working in the IT sector with a CS degree. Here's to hoping for a good 10th jam, and hoping I don't go too ambitious.

Feeling good ahead of jam

Normally about this time when the first theme voting round begins, I get a bit anxious with some of the theme ideas listed. I feel like this time around, seeing at least the themes on this first round, I feel a lot more confident and excited about what the end theme will be! We all have the different themes that appeal to us all, so I expect that's a feeling some people also have, yet others might not feel the same. Regardless, I'm super excited!

An Optimistic Lookahead

For this being my 11th Ludum Dare I've participated in (one of the games never got posted), I'm feeling so much more optimistic going into the jam this time than any other event I've been a part of.

Normally at this point I'm looking at the themes and thinking "Oh boy I really hope it's not that one", or getting too attached to some ideas that are aligned with specific themes, but this time around I feel like every single theme is good to me and I could figure something out for all of them.

Not just with the themes, but at this point I feel so much more confident about the tools I'll be using and my skill/ability to use them. Most of all, after all the projects I've done, I've come to learn what my limits are, and what is too much to make for a jam like this. I'll be using Unity like I usually do, with Aseprite for any textures, and Blender in case I do any modeling.

I'm super excited to participate, and I'm so excited to see what everyone else makes! 💗

Creatures of the Labyrinth

I thought I'd show off some of the creatures you might encounter the deeper you explore the labyrinth...

Pillbeetle

A relatively harmless creature, it moves back and forth around it's own territory. If you get too close though, it won't hesitate to bite!

ezgif-62a6d4aa3be40a.gif

Hopperslime

Excited creatures, Hopperslimes will jump around whenever the player is near, trying to intercept them as they come by, thinking the player is some kind of food. ezgif-691e56b31395f3.gif

Shroomites

Mushroom folk that burrow themselves into the ground, they hop around when out of the soil in search for a snack. When they see a treat, they will begin to hop in it's direction rather than back and forth. Careful though, you might just be the treat they've been waiting for! ezgif-600df29b3fff77.gif

Shieldsword

This haunted weaponry floats around the castle of the labyrinth. Once existing as a respectable guard of the castle that once stood on the surface, these long passed spirits take the form of a shield, floating around until they spot an intruder. When they find someone who doesn't belong, they shapeshift into a sword, swinging at them to stop them from progressing. It is reported that Shieldswords are the reason most don't return from the heart of the labyrinth... ezgif-6d3d75640dea97.gif

Feedback and a Post-Jam Build

I listened to a lot of the feedback on the controls for my game, and decided to release a post-jam build! This new version is now the playable version on Itch.io

Most of the game remains the exact same; all that is changed is a bug that made the game impossible to beat due to map generation, a misplaced value on the player that made them unable to fall through one-way platforms, and most important, the ability to aim with the mouse instead of Q/W/E! Aiming is still locked to 45 degree angles, but it is much easier now to control. The original ludum dare build can still be played on the LD page with a downloadable version for the original 1.0 upload, though there is a UI scaling issue on the browser version (slightly more updated during the jam).

Thank you everyone who has played and given feedback!
