LD35

I’m in!

Hello everyone this will be my very first Ludum Dare and hopefully I will manage to get trough it.

I will be using: My head(hopefully), Gamemaker, bfxr.net, and possibly some other suggested tools from the tools section of this site :)

Good luck everyone!

First 7 or so hour progress..

Since this is my first LD entry and my first actual game, I decided to make simple platform game. The concept is that you play as shape-shifting tank-like entity and you transform in different forms to gain advantage against different enemies.

So far I’ve made rough look for one enemy, one player shape and some other small bits. Also made the very basic mechanics:moving around shooting,etc..

7hoursProgress

All the graphics will be changed (most likely), assuming that i will have enough time.

Good luck everyone! I’m off to get some sleep :)

First days progress

Today I mostly worked on mechanics, i made three forms each with advantages and disadvantages: Tank,Plane and Anti-Air.

and  tomorrow will try to focus on content, sound and better sprites.

Now i’m off to bed, Good night! 😀

Ludum Dare 37

Morning everyone!

Just woke up got some ideas and i am ready to go!

This will be my second jam, and i am hoping for better results this time :)
My idea for the game will be connected to space, but it should go very well with the theme. My only concern is that i might be making something too complicated for my skill level.
Wish me luck!

I will be using mainly gamemaker and maybe some other tools for graphics and sound.
I will also be streaming, but don’t expect anything too fancy, just a chill stream with some calm music for morning programming.

Finally i wish everyone good luck and good time! :)

First progress update!

This is what i have made so far. So far its just a prototype, no graphics yet.

The story is that you are stranded in space, and you have only your little space-capsule left. Simply put you have to gather resources to get back to earth or die in space.
Not sure how will i draw anything since i don’t know how to draw 😀

I’m exhausted!

Today’s progress:
LD37LastRoom
I have mostly finished the base-game, some tid-bits are left, but in general its done.
Tomorrow graphics/sound? I don’t know how that will go :/

Meanwhile goodnight everyone i need some sleep!

When dust has settled

Hey everyone and happy Christmas!

Its been 2 long weeks since the LD event, and I am just now writing this post-compo dev-blog.
Two weeks too late, but I was quite busy, not that that is a valid excuse of course.

This was my 2nd time participating at LudumDare and this time I made a game called Space Captive.

In this game you are an astronaut who has survived the destruction of his space station, and you are tied to the last supply module via special tether. This supply module will be either your last room before your death or your best chance to survive. You have to collect necessary resources while being barraged by debris and other items. Good luck!

(sorry about the bad gif quality)

This will be the 1st time of me being proud of my entry and having somewhat reached my vision of the game, and that makes me really happy :) .
Also I am very happy with the feedback so far, although everyone says that the game is too hard, to which I would like to reply “space is hard” 😀 .

What went right and wrong?
Well with my first entry back at LD35 I ran out of time and I was somewhat upset with the result, so this time I made sure that my time management was on point.
My first days goal was to finish the core game, which I did and was very surprised about it. And the second day was for graphics, sounds, polish, etc.
I still wish I could have made a little intro movie/tutorial but I am too bad of an artist to pull that off in reasonable time. Also maybe on the next LD event I should focus a bit more on music.
And another thing that bothered me was that it took me 2 weeks to release a minor bugfix(which took like a hour or so to make) and to write this post.
Also i wish i had made time-lapse of my work.

But all in all I am very happy with the end result of the game, and i think that is what matters the most.

If you wanna try out my game the link is >here<!
Have fun everyone and happy new year! 😀

This look so brilliant, I want to play it! LINUX or MAC version PLEASE!

The results are in!

Wow! My game Space Captive did very well for my second LD event.

ratings

It barely missed top 25 innovation and top 100 overall. An all the categories were within 300!

These ratings kind of blew my mind! Also the game had pretty good comments and I was generally happy with the game myself too, and i think that is what matters the most.

There was probably two things that I might have done to make my game and the ratings better
*I should have made the bugfix for the game right away
*and I should have made web version(which I couldn’t do, due to the way I had coded the game)

However all in all I would say this was great success for me and my game.

Thanks to everyone who played and rated my game :)

I’m in!

Hey folks! I’m in again, this will be my 3rd time participating!

Last time i blew my expectations away by getting #29 most innovative and 90# most fun game, with my Space Captive entry.

I can only hope that i come anywhere close to that this time, the theme is “Small World” and i’m not exactly excited about it, as i usually like to incorporate the theme in the game mechanics in a interesting way, but this time trying to come up with some ideas i’m mostly blank.
I did come up with one idea of having a small round world platformer, that you can see most of it on your screen and you can run around, but the idea of not having isometric(is this even the right word for it?) coordinate system scares me and will definitely be a challenge. Especially because i’m by no means good at gamedev.
Here’s a rough sketch of what i am planning to make…
idea_draft
Also this is type of game that would really benefit from a good artist, rest assured i’m not one.(as you can probably tell by the sketch :D)

So my hopes for this entry is that i can at least get something working up at all.

Tools:I will be using Gamemaker
I will also stream my work on twitch, so come say hello!

Good luck and have fun everyone in LD38!!

Dammit, I return from planning breakfast and the first thing I see is my idea! Oh well, I guess it was a little too obvious. I’ll stick to it anyway. Good luck with yours!

LD 43

I'm IN after a huge absence

My last solo LD was 38(yikes). So it's time to undust my coding skills and dive into the madness. I will be making a tower defense like game about jelly/slime/creature/whatever thing that is able to mutate, multiply and grow. But of course the main goal is the sacrifice for the greater good also known as hi-score.

Here's a rough concept. conceptSmall.png

I will be using Unity and some other stuff.

Good luck everyone and don't forget to have fun! :v:

Some Progress Update

My coding skills were more rusty than expected, everything took way more than id like. I've got some of the basic stuff in but quite a bit is also missing, not to mention all missing art, sound and ui.. :sob:

Anyway here is some gifs of my progress

It took me forever to figure out how to draw lines. :rotating_light: Yay Disco! disco.gif

How to sacrifice your PC multiOp.gif

That's about all for now! Good luck everyone and see you on the other side!

Off to bed

Sleep sweet sleep! I can't wait to sink my head into my pillow and let it caress my head softly...

Thought that before i head to bed i should post my Compo entry here, so here it is (has WebPlayer) : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/mutajelly Thumbnail315250B.png

Also from the couple games that i rated, this one is absolute true gem, you should check it out :open_mouth: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/a-flight-to-the-gallows (sadly it doesn't have WebPlayer)

Goodnight everyone, and good luck to Jamers!

Hey, why don't you come check out my game?

I'm a bit short from 20 ratings and would appropriate if you would check out my little game :v: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/43/mutajelly Thumbnail315250B.png

Thanks for playing, and i hope your new year is full of joy and games! :fireworks:

SatOrbit update

Today I released 1st bugfix patch to make my game a bit more playable! So if you wanna give it a try go for it... or you could wait for the 2nd bugfix patch which should come sometime this week hopefully.

Also SQUARE ORBITS are kind a cool :sunglasses: squareOrbit.gif

Cheers! Have a nice day everyone!

Stuck in a loop :(

Hey everyone!(I let everything on my mind spill out and this post is probably gonna be a bit of downer :( )

First I want to say thanks to everyone who played and rated my game, especially last few ratings that made it past the 20 needed ratings. I was gonna make an small update for the game improving some of the rough edges of the game and maybe make a post inviting people to try it out, but I didn't and still received the last few missing ratings, and I appreciate it a lot. I appreciate the people who look out for games falling behind on ratings and just people who played and rated my game in general.

Now the results speak for themselves, my game didn't receive good ratings and they are fairly average, and that's because my game IS average, and I don't feel bad about my ratings, I'm happy people rated it honestly and I would have done the same, but I feel like I could have done a lot better.

While I did miss the first day of the jam due to technical issues and was one day short compared to the other people, I still could have smoothed some of the rougher corners in post. And while I did make one patch, I didn't make the 2nd patch that I already had list of issues that I wanted to fix.

And while I might have been busy some of the earlier days, I was free the last 4-5 days of the rating period. But I just couldn't do it :( I just couldn't sit down and start working... I would say I understand programming pretty well and I like to challenge my self by making complex things(or at least what I think are complex). So it wasn't the issue about not knowing how to fix things, so I have fairly smart head on my shoulder, I had plenty of time... I have food and water, and I have a roof over my head - warm little apartment, I live alone so no one was there to disturb my work, all the comforts person might need... so I had no obstacles and yet.. I just couldn't get my self to make a little patch for my game. Sure it would have probably taken me like 12 hours or so, but I like programming and I like making games... So I really don't know why I am struggling :(

And lately I have noticed that this is reoccurring theme, after I moved out to live in this apartment all by my self, I realized that I am struggling a lot with doing even basic stuff, not because I don't know how to do it but just because I cant do it. And I am also struggling with finding fulfilling job or any job for that matter and even more so struggle staying in the job.. I'm struggling making ends meet, and while I am minimalist and it helps bring the costs down quite considerably, and I have help of my family. I usually work on some odd projects and what not and make some money, but I don't know how sustainable this is. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop and I'm spiraling down towards darkness and void :(

I have a good head on my shoulders(I think..) and can come up with ways to make money but when it comes to actually doing it I just cant do anything

And while I just realized this last few years, when I think back to it, I realize that I've struggled most of my life with doing things and that I have very low motivation to do anything, back then I thought I was just lazy, but now I realize that this problem might be bigger... and the name of the theme this ludum dare couldn't be more fitting to my situation... Its as if its there to taunt me.

I have good health, all the basic human comforts one might need, but yet I am struggling fighting this invisible enemy and I don't think I am doing a good job at it :(

Anyway, a cry later, I don't know why I am writing this here, I usually try to keep this to my self, maybe it was cry for help or maybe some sort of catharsis..

Anyway I hope you are doing better than me and I hope, whoever or wherever you are, that you can achieve your dreams
