Haven't been able to work as much as I'd like due to inclement weather (afraid of power outages causing me to lose work), but I do have a pretty nifty NavMap for my game to show off, featuring a few planets and space stations.

Tomorrow I work on cranking out some gameplay (and a few more graphics). Then sound/music... I'm impressed by a lot of the other submissions I've seen so far, and we're only about halfway through the Jam!
I saw the twitter post that there were server issues, but as far as I can tell I got submitted okay.

Here's the play link: (Browser and windows executable download available)

Leave me a comment and I'll play your game and rate it. I'd appreciate if you'd do the same for mine! (I mean, if you ONLY have a download, I'll probably play that one too, but I'm feeling lazy after this weekend hehe)

First of all, thanks to everyone who has already checked out my Jam entry, "Space Shipping". I appreciate all the ratings, comments, and feedback. If you haven't had a chance to play it yet, you can check it out here:
https://rubixnoob13.itch.io/space-shipping
Note: There's both a web version and a Windows download, since I know not everyone wants to download hundreds of games to play them and rate them. ;)
Here's a list of minor bug fixes that I've done since the initial upload (thanks in part to the comments that people have left for me) :)
Bug Fixes 8/14/18
"Game Over" status now triggers correctly instead of causing an infinite loop or waiting. Should trigger as soon as "event pop up" is closed if fail state (or win) conditions are met
Cargo can no longer be moved before placing it into the ship
Already placed cargo should no longer be visible when on cargo selection screen
script for string_thousands not handling decimals or negative numbers correctly
Fuel/hull should no longer go negative (well, it shouldn't STAY negative) xD
Postmortem / Random Thoughts
I've honestly been tinkering with programming a game for quite some time, and this Jam was actually the first time I've been able to publish anything, for a lot of reasons that I won't go into here. This Jam was probably the most fun I've had in a very long time, and I have been floored by the positive feedback I've received so far. I'm definitely going to see about continuing to develop this idea and see what it can become.
Again, sincere thanks to everyone who's played my game or left a comment. Your kind words have actually inspired me quite a lot, so I'm going to keep the positive vibe going and keep working to make my (I think so, anyway) pretty neat Jam entry into something awesome.
--That's everything for now, and thanks again for checking out my game ^_^!
Hello, everyone! Just a quick poll of sorts since this is my first ever game Jam.
I see that we still have quite a bit of time to play / review submissions. In the meantime, I have decided to work on fleshing out my entry into a more "complete" game. I know that no changes other than bug fixes are allowed to my submission, which I'm totally fine with.
I'm looking for suggestions on the next steps. As in, should I post the updated version as a separate entry on itch.io, or wait until the jam ends and then post the updated version in its place?
Any thoughts on this are appreciated! Also, if you'd like me to play/rate your game, mention that in your comment and I'll be sure to check it out. :)
Hey fellow Ludum Dare participants! I've got a couple days off and I'll be working on my post-jam version of Space Shipping this weekend. I'll also be playing/rating more of your games, so if you'd like a rating, be sure to comment this post and I'll check out your submission!
Oh, and if you haven't checked out Space Shipping yet, why don't you go give it a try? :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/space-shipping

I've already more than met my goal, but I'd honestly love to get more people's feedback on how the post-jam version can be improved (besides adding in a refuel option and music, lol) ;)
Thanks for playing!
Hey everyone! This was my first jam and I had a blast working on my game Space Shipping. If you haven't had a chance, feel free to check it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/space-shipping
Meanwhile, I'm still working on the post-jam version. It's taken a bit longer than expected due to work, a complete code overhaul, updated UI system, and a ton of other updates. I've been learning a lot as I go about some of the nuances of Gamemaker Studio and honestly game programming logic in general. I've been tinkering with making a game for quite a long time, but this is the first time I've ever gotten anything to the point of a public release, and I did it in 72 hours for the jam. I want the polished version to actually look kinda decent, and I've been working on re-sizing everything from the original 1280x720 resolution into Full HD 1920x1080. Some of that has been done, a lot of it is still a work in progress. I'm also a solo dev team with a full time job outside of programming games, so I don't get to work on this as much as I'd like to. But I'm making time, and I'm slowly but surely getting things done. For anyone who's interested in a post-jam version, I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments. I'm seriously taking all feedback into consideration (one of the FIRST things I've figured out how to add into the post-jam version is a reset button for once you get to the end game so you don't have to exit and re-start, because several people mentioned that).
Also, I have a working Graphics Options menu implemented, and (I'm 90% certain) I've bug tested it enough that everything works as intended. Here's a screenshot:

Again, TL;DR: I had a blast, you guys are great, thanks for the feedback, and now I'm gonna get back to work on Space Shipping - Post Jam Version! :)
I think I’m in again for LD 43. Hopefully will get me back in the groove of programming more. Let’s do this! :)
So, it's officially 1 day after the theme reveal (okay technically 8 minutes from when I'm writing this). As of right now, I've brainstormed some ideas, downloaded a few fonts, and opened GM:S to start a project.
I see that everyone else seems to mostly be taking a very literal "Sacrifice something to the dark lord / gods" with the theme. If I can find the motivation I need to get started working, I have an idea that's a bit different but I think nicely fits the theme.
Good luck everyone! :)
Hello, everyone! :) Unfortunately, due to real world obligations and having to work tomorrow, I've not gotten anywhere close to being started for this jam, so I'll be dropping out. Hopefully I'll get something put together for the next one in April!
Good luck everyone and have fun! :)
I'm in again for LD44! Most likely using GMS for the game, GIMP or paint.net for graphics and one of the many audio generators for sound (which I didn't get around to for LD 42 and everyone noticed there was no sound, haha)
Good luck everyone and have fun! :)

Okay, so I wasn't as pumped about the theme as I thought I'd be, but I can work with it, although my idea seems to be the majority of like, something where your health is used for powerups, upgrades, etc. I been fighting a sinus infection since like 2 days before LD started, and in the first 24 hours of the Jam, I've completed approximately the following: 1) Coming up with a sort-of idea 2) Typing some stuff in notepad 3) Taking lots of sinus medication and naps 4) Trying to get myself motivated enough to start writing any code 5) Looking at free sprite art and being upset that there's a LOT of side scroller sprites available, but not many top-down, 4 directional stuff (like Zelda/Binding of Isaac), at least not that I've been able to find, and IDK if I'm talented enough to draw any myself :stuckouttongueclosedeyes:
All the above being said, I think I'm mostly over the sinus crud and I still have 2 days to go, so I guess it's time to stop typing and time to get to work!
So I finished my second Jam Entry (first was during LD42). I was sick for basically the first 2 days, but I still got something completed, and you can play it in all it's shortness here:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/bzzorp
Just so maybe people can see where I was going was sort of a Zelda/Binding of Isaac style. However, Gamemaker: Studio and I had a lot of uh, disagreements on how things like data structures work (only around the 3rd time I've ever tried to make anything of substance with the program to be honest lol)
Anyway, go play it. The best "procedural generation" I got to were the enemies spawn in different areas/amounts between I believe 2-7 baddies per room. Every playthrough is technically different, although I had planned on implementing a dungeon generator as well. Most likely will happen in the post-jam edits!
So, play on, enjoy it for 3 minutes, leave some feedback. And as always, link me your game in a comment and I'll do my best to play it and leave you a rating as well!
Whoa, lost track of the months and it's already this time again! I'm even late in starting theme voting, but I'll try my best to get something submitted this go round!
Tools I'll be using: Either GMS or Godot, most likely Godot SFXR Bosca Ceoil
I know I have to work at my IRL job, so I may only have 2 days for the JAM entry instead of 3, but I'll do my best! I missed 2/3 of the last one and my entry was terrible because of a sinus infection, but I have been working on learning Godot and it looks promising so far!
GOOD LUCK everyone!
Yep. I was sitting at my house doing other stuff til 8pm CST, waiting for the theme reveal. I gave it a few extra minutes because I know the site normally lags etc. Then I look through some posts, and realize it's been revealed for like, 3 1/2 hours by the time I even look at it.
OOPS! Oh well, I was fashionably late joining the Jam anyway, guess that's staying in line with my internal theme this time around lol!
Good luck everyone! Remember to get some sleep and stay hydrated!
Since I have to work tomorrow, I was planning on attempting to submit for the compo. However, since I'm only around 2/3 of the way completed with the level generator, and still need to add things like:
Items
Enemies
Sound
Music
I think I'll end up submitting to the jam instead
Good luck, everyone!
Whew! Title pretty much says it all! This LDJam entry is finally finished, however I'm just getting started with it. I really like the direction this project is going, and I fully intend to work on it after the Jam is over and hopefully make it into a full fledged game.
Check it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/$163479 (comment once you're had a chance to play and I'll check out your entry as well

Hello, everyone! If you need a few more ratings on your game to get your 20, comment on this post. Disclaimer: I work until around 7pm CST today at my IRL job, but afterwards I'm looking to relax and check out some of your games, give some ratings and some feedback. So again, leave me a comment with a link to your games and I'll be checking them out later today(tonight?) :stuckouttongue:
