Time difference between ratings end and results

I was wondering, why is there a 4 hours delay between the end of the ratings and the results? Shouldn't be the counting of votes and sorting a simple operation that takes a few minutes tops? Or am I missing something? Sorry first time here  thanks!

Tips on development and time management

I recently had some time to write a devlog about one of my previous LD entries, rainforest, Inc.

I thought it might be helpful to somebody to see how to manage time and how to structure the development process to fit into the jam.

In the post I talk about: - time management - project structure - brainstorming process - prototype - development structure - tips on modeling, texturing - level creation

You can find the full post here. I hope it will be useful to someone.

Cheers! 😄

Minimalistic Wallpaper

I decided to also give a go in creating a wallpaper for LD45, with a minimalistic style. You can download all the sizes below. Cheers!

My case for "Making connections"

making_connections.PNG

I think Making connections is the theme that's going to steer developers into creating the most compelling games.

Is making connections meant figuratively, as creating relationships between people, or literally, creating connections between cities in an RTS, or between pieces in a puzzle? You could interpret it to create a platformer with a special swing mechanic, or an action game in which you have to "make connections" between your bullets and the enemies.

I think this theme is interesting enough from a gameplay prospective without limiting developers into a particular genre or mechanic. It provides more interpretation opportunity than other fixed themes such as "Shelter" or "Mutation" that (imho) provide less expressiveness.

What do you think?

Game about making games - idea and prototype

You are an aspiring gamedev in a small studio. Unfortunately, you forgot to pay the electricity bill and so the electricity company cuts it. All your PCs go offline, and in the process you lose all the progress stored on the HDs. You'll now have to start with nothing and manage to develop and ship a title with sporadic electricity and no internet.

The main game mechanics are to run around in the studio, turning on PCs using cables to be able to work on them, create assets (art, code, design), and then combine them on USB drives (internet is down) and then ship them.

Here a small (& ugly) paper prototype  Cheers!

Cable Simulation

Starting out with a cable simulation and custom collisions.
Stay tuned for progress

Connecting cables

You can now move around your character, pick up cables and insert them into outlets!
Next: powering devices

Progress for day 1

The progress at the end of day 1.
You are an aspiring gamedev that starts with nothing, even without electricity. You can connect PCs to power outlets to turn them on, and then produce assets that you have to combine on drives and upload on your server.

It's looking kind of rough but tomorrow will be the day for nice graphics. Have a great night
