So Hi. I’m going to build a pikmin zelda game because why not.
My body is ready!
So this will be my third try in the last 42 hours -.-
I was lacking inspiration and still kind of am, but with my drive and goal to finish a game before the end of the summer I cant and wont back down.
It’ll be majoras mask inspired…
I will stream >> http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor
My body is ready!
Didn’t really get into the theme of the dare so I ended up dropping out :/
My body is ready!… again!
lets go >> http://www.twitch.tv/skyllartor
So October Challenge has come and I’m really excited. Nothing like Ludum dare to boost my determination and productivity.
This month I am going to be working on a Top down multi-player Batman Arkham game that I’ve been building for 2 weeks. I am going to rebuild it as it’s become a bit cluttered and I’m going to stream most of it HERE.
Why did I put “Prepare to die edition in the Title”? Well I am a fairly inexperienced game designer and I just like a challenge even if I don’t end up succeeding.
October Challenge: Prepare to die edition! :
I hope your guys’ bodies are ready! Because mine sure is!
So after a weekend of working on my Top Down Batman Arkham game and I figure it’s a bit to big of a project for only 3 weeks time.
I made an unfinished prototype of a Top Down JRPG with Randomly generated elements with a rts spin when you get into a battle. I’m going to play around with that for a few hours to see where I’m at and I may as well stream it… HERE!
My body is ready!
The end of day 4/21 has come and gone what do I got? A lot.
The other day I went and dusted off one of my old projects and started working on it again. The game is an RPG with RTS and rogue like inspiration. When I came up with the Idea I was just going over cool games I liked and smashing their game mechanics together, this game is the combination of Binding of Isaac and monster hunter and Zelda and Pikmin.
Yesterday and today I spent my time implementing file Loading/Saving and and fixing old features that I stopped working on the game because of. I will leave that part with a screen shot of hoodos.
Have you seen the new episode of Adventure Time?! Train Dungeon!!!?
I can’t tell if you answered that or not… but anyways, Tonight I am going to make a small side project based on the train dungeon!
Wanna watch? GO HERE!
My body is double ready!
Till the IGF submission I mean.
Yesterday was the release of Wind Waker HD. My initial thoughts(I didn’t play the original): Great Game, Beautiful Graphics, Camera is a bit irritating, Hero mode is definitely hard, story is pretty good and it’s going to be a distraction from working on my game. grrrrr.
But I did manage to get some work done. I’ve got the concept and direction nailed down. I know how I want dungeons, events, enemie encounters and… Other kinds of encounters to turn out.
I wont go into it to much right now, but tomorrow I will post a video here to showcase the game! Wont that be exciting? It better be…
Happy Ludum Dare
There is 28 hours until IGF submission deadline and I plan on getting all of my base mechanics, art, bugs and sound finished before then.
What is my game?? It is an JRPG-RTS hybrid. The over world, party mechanics and inventory are those of an RPG, while battles, dungeons and other such events are handled as a Zelda Four swords with more than four heroes… or Pikmin where each pikmin is customisable.
It is meant to be played with ONLY a keyboard or a gamepad(USB Xbox controller), no mouse. This is done by your main units controls being on the left side of the controller/keyboard and the rest of your party on the right side. It’s kind of hard to grasp with when you start but you get better after a little bit.
There is a typecast menu to give orders to specific units since there is no area select. If I was fighting an Ent that’s spraying parallizing spores around him I would want a long range fire attack. I would press the enter key which would pause the game FTL style and you would be given a few options to chose from ” Magic”, “Range”, “Melee” or “Stat”. You would want to chose “Range>>Magic>>Fire” then you would press enter again and order those selected units to attack. It’s better played than explained.
Also the world, quests and monsters are randomly generated.
I would spend more time explaining but there is barely any time left.
My body is ready.
Ohoho no I’m not talking about the bible story, I’m talking about the game by Edmund McMillan and Florian Himsl.
For a long while people have been crying out for a portable version of the game, It hasn’t been ported because it’s made in action script and we all know how outdated that has become and porting it probably wont be a viable option for another few years until our phones and tablets are strong enough. Any Touch Device game that i see that is supposed to be a solution for those who want Isaac on the go, don’t give me the vibe that Isaac does. A port of Boi: Rebirth will be possible, BUT that’s another 8 months away.
Sooooooo…
Let’s make our own!
My idea is to make a version of the game that has a relationship with the original, like what Super Mario land(w/e we call this) has to Super Mario Bros(Isaac). So a different game that still follows the outlines of Isaac. It will have game boy graphics style and sound. NO screen mounted controls because I hate those. And other related features.
I’ll do the coding and anybody reading this can leave a comment here or in my twitch chat on what items, monsters and anything in general you would love to see in it. If you have experience with music and would like to make some great Game Boy tunes that could compliment a game of Isaac than feel free to do so! Same goes for Graphics, while I have a bunch made already I’m not an artist and would much prefer doing the programming over anything else, So if you could make some cool looking Game boy graphics please do!
My body is ready! Is yours?!

So I might as well do the LD warm up and see if that helps.
maybe I’ll finish something tonight
Friday Night the fan for my cpu died so I was forced to postpone my participation until now.
For the theme I might make a mouse controlled fast passed diablo style game.
Good luck to everyone. I look forward to playing your games!
Iv’e been working for a couple of weeks on a game with the intents of putting it up on the android store. I like what i’m working on but some days I just hit a creative wall and stall for a few days before i get back in the groove. Does anybody have any advice on how to keep moving if i get stuck? Thanks.

Remember that show Polaris/Maker tried to make a month ago? The game jam show? Well, in honor of the original concept of that show, I think each of us should make our own Mini-Docs explaining our process and following our project start to finish. They wouldn’t need to be hour long epic tales of hardship and heart break, just a five to ten minute “Hey, I made -Game Name- and this is how I made it” or what ever you see fit.
Look forward to seeing them!
Good luck and happy LD!
Got basic level, Keyboard/mouse control, basic entity system. I’m on a roll.
I think i forgot to say I’m in!
So Yeah
>>Streaming! <<
Had a good sleep. Got some Dark Souls II in me. Ready to code for 12 hours.
There haven’t been many games with PROPER welding in them, I might try to incorporate?
>>STREAM<<
Phew, almost missed it.
I’m using Java with default libraries and Paint.net.
Will stream tomorrow.

The kind of game I’m going to make during the compo is an adventure game like A Links Awakening, I’ll have to mold the theme around that.
My idea is to use level tiles as a weapon.
See you there >> http://www.twitch.tv/castlegreysky
Much like everyone else I was kind of disappointed by the theme. After I seen it I went to bed and went over some ideas. After a bit of thinking I remembered an idea I had a while ago of a “Pacific Rim” inspired tactics game. Making a tactics game would probably be hard to do since I’m not great at making complex systems and 48 hours wouldn’t be enough time to make one anyway. I decided to make it a traditional rogue-like instead.
I’ve put about 3.5 hours in so far and I’ve got:
The next few hours is going to be finishing the mechanics and this after noon I hope to be tweaking and polishing, then tomorrow I’ll be adding animations and sound stuff.
It’s coming along a lot faster than I would have thought!
