LD 42

First time on Ludum Dare!

Hi, I discoverd Ludum Dare a week ago and I'm very glad that is in time to the LD 24, so I decided to participate, and it will be my first game jam also, yeay!

I'm thinkin' to use Unity and Visual Studio to the development, Aseprite or PhotoShop to the graphics and Bosca Ceoil to the SFX and music.

I'm super exited and hope to finish it on time for Compo!

I really did not like the theme at all...

It's has being some hours since the start, but I don't get almost any good idea, the majority of them is some non-creative puzzle. Please someone send help...

In fact I tried one ideia like

"The Earth is running out of space, manage a resercher team to get us all out of this dying planet."

It kind sounds cool, but I'm not very confortable or satisfied whith the idea.

I'm thinking on some new, and creative, ideas... (I hope I'm not the only whith that problem)

Well any help is wellcomed ^^'

Some of the art on my game

Although I found out that I love programming, my passion is art, so I thought of using it to my advantage in this jam, unfortunately, I didn't managed to do everything I planned, but the things I did I'm very proud of. The game ended up shipping in black and white, but my original plan was to add colors, here's a post-jam mockup I did to see how I would look like: thomas OFF - guara comparação.png Feel free to tell me which one you prefer, any comment are very much appreciated.

And don't forget to check the game out if you haven't yet:

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/my-flavor-ite-kidnapper

I also did some icons that didn't ended up in the game (I only used the ice cream one), they are supposed to be menu and loading icons respectively: icons.png

And here's a better look at the other characters, they don't have a name, but I designed each one to fit a personality type. The maned wolf is supposed to be the shy one, the mustache one to be the spy, and the cool hair to be the quirky one (yes, it is a JoJo reference): chars trans.png

If you like the art of My Flavor-ite Kidnapper consider following me on Twitter, I post all of my art there.

Also, my game is 5 ratings away from scoring, check it out if you haven't already:

LD 43

I'm the only one that hated the theme?

I'm seeing everyone telling thath loved the theme and have a bunch of ideas already, but I don't feel it... This theme doesn't inspire me at all, is anyone out there that's struggling with it too?

Well, I hope to get something and participate this time. Good luck for those who already have an ideia of what to do, and even more luck for those who can't think in anything like me.

Ludum Dare 53

Barelly made it, but it's packed up and finished

Go check my game out, "My Flavor-ite Kidnapper", it's not perfect, it was a lot of work, but it is done.

cover.png

These past 3 days I lived for this game, waking up and straight to the Pc and working on it until late at night.

This was fun, I tried to attempt Ludum Dare before but never managed to finish a thing, but today I finally made it (it's also my first "finished" and published game too), sometimes I thought I couldn't make it, but here I am.

I ran out of time pretty quickly, the game has no sound, probably some bugs and English mistakes, and I didn't make nearly as much art as I intended, but it's ok, I'm learning a lot, but now I'll go for my much-needed rest.

This jam was wild, it was my first (successful) jam and also my first actually finished game, lots of first times. I lived for this jam, waking up straight to the game and working on it until late at night. I was planning lots more for the jam version but didn't manage to do it all, but still, I'm very happy with the result of the jam and will participate in the next one for sure.

I was planning on adding sound but kept leaving it to do later, and in the end, I didn't add it, So what was learned is: don't neglect sound and try to finish the main ply loop as soon as possible so you can play test it. I think my scope was ok, but still, next time I'll try to keep it as down as possible, although it wasn't as big, there were lots of things I planned and didn't manage to make.

After some much-needed rest and I finally had time to playtest the game, although there weren't many bugs there were some huge game-breaking ones, finally, now it's (mostly) everything fixed. I plan to keep working on it, so stay tuned if you liked it.

Final bugs squashed, and desktop executables

It seems like the more I play, the more bugs I found. I did some post-jam fixes only to find another bug one day after, finally, I thick that this is the final update until the big content update I'm planning.

Also, I finally had the chance of making a Windows executable (I use a Chromebook from my college, so I had to find a Windows somewhere), so now if you want to save it on your hard-drive to play later you can.

And if you haven't had the chance of playing My Flavor-ite Kidnapper consider checking it out: cover.png https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/my-flavor-ite-kidnapper

(Now with 95% less bugs)

Thanks, everyone for rating

Although I didn't scored that high I'm very happy with it, it's my first jam and first finished game.

I learned a lot, and this reignited my passion for game dev, I'm already working on a post-jam update for my game, planning on participating in the next LudumDare, and dreaming about other personal projects.

Thanks, everyone for being so kind and supportive

After LD53 ended I decided to keep working on my game, it still isn't finished, but it's quite there.

I had the opportunity of exhibiting it at an art fair in my college, so I kinda rushed it a bit to showcase it there, fortunately, it was almost the way I wanted, so now I just need to make some final polishing.

I designed even more characters and completely overhauled the graphics, I intended to make them this colorful from the start. When I created the art for the jam I decided to make it first in black and white and later, if I had time, color it, obviously, I didn't get enough time.

I also decided to slightly change the game's name from "My Flavor-ite Kidnapper" to "My Flavor(ite) Kidnapper", I think it looks a bit nicer and expresses the pun a little better.

The original jam version also lacked music, I think it quite diminished the experience, but now I put some songs and I'm very pleased with the music I chose.

You can still download the original jam version if you want to see how much the game improved.

Ludum Dare 54

Am I prepared for LD54?

No. Will I try it anyway?

Yes!

Feels like last week that I was speed coding at the end of LD53. This time I won't have all days completely free, but I hope the experience gives me some advantage

Some things I learned from my first jam to keep in mind: - Don't negligence sound. If you leave it to the end you probably won't put it at all - Keep your scope low. If you think your idea is simple enough it probably is too complicated, you can always do more if you have time, but if you aim too high you might end up with a half-baked game - Don't forget to rest and relax. I think I did a pretty good job at not burning myself out last time, but it's always nice to remember, take some time to rest and relax, if you're stressed or starting to feel burnt out you won't work as well

Guaxinim is ready to rest!

It is always a journey!

Can't believe I finished on time! Even tho there are some minor bugs and visual glitches I'm proud of what I did this time

logo_color.png

Be a Merchant Raccoon called Guaxinim in their journey to gather more and more items for his shop

This is my second jam (second in a row!) I thought things would be easier this time, but boy, I was wrong

I kept saying to myself "I'll put the audio earlier this time" and at the end, I kept pushing back the audio and it ended up finishing without any sound, you can play just fine, but either way, it's a bummer

Check Guaxinim's Rarities, Antiques & Knick-knacks here!

And say "hello" to Guaxinim, he's being hard at work too

raccoon.png

Guaxinim is now running into Windows and Linux

Just ported my game Guaxinim's Antiques, Rarities & Knick-knacks for Windows and Linux, hopefully this makes the game more accessible, since I noticed it can take quite a bit to load in the web player. I also did some quick fixes on bugs too

raccoon.png

Also wanted to share the art of all items in the game, I was planning on making a lot more items, but (as the lack of sound shows) I runned out of time all items.png

Check Guaxinim's Antiques, Rarities & Knick-knacks here!

Some new character design for the update

I'm still working on updating my last jam entry, and in the process I decided to design some new characters, as well as slightly updating the design of the main one.

Meet the roster, Guaxinim, Raposo and Polar: charas final.png

I'm planning on finishing the update and wrapping things up before the next LD

Ludum Dare 55

I'm in for the third time in a row!

I'm very excited to participate once more, and this time I'll have the full 72h free to work on the jam, so this hopefully means smoother sailing

As usual, I'll be using: - Godot with GDScript as the engine - Krita for graphics - Notion for organizations and notes - I'm not good with music so I'll be getting some from OpenGameArt

Things I've (hopefully) learned from my past entries: - For goodness sake put some sound already - For the love of God don't make another game that relies on asset variety to be interesting

Well, guess I will not make it

Sometimes you need to know when to give up, the game isn't near a playable state yet and I highly doubt I'll manage to work things out in 30 minutes

The scope ghost caught me this time, guess I bit more than I could chew

And to to make things worse as soon as the jam started I caught a very bad cold (it would be funny if it was an actual joke)

But hey, I managed to start a thing I really enjoyed, I like the idea and the art direction I chose, I'll definitely will keep working on it and maybe I'll finish on time for Extra

I leave you with a sneak peek of Daemonium Casino

Using Crowdin to translate my game

I'm proud to announce, I'm opening a Crowdin project to translate my game! Crowdin is a community translation platform and, being the localization nerd I am, I thought it would be great to translate my first LD game there

banner.png

You can find the Crowdin page here, and I also made a devlog post on itch.io explaning everything. I'm so excited and I hope to get some languages done before the v3.0 update I'm working on

all_trans bg.png (Some translated variations of the logo I was working on, I actually just speak English and Portuguese ~~and some Japanese~~, but I made an effort to keep the pun on the title and localize things the best that I can)

Ludum Dare 56

Going to participate despite everything

This month is going to be wild with lots and lots of projects in the making, but either way I'm planning on participating in LD56

For the 4th time in a row (last time I didn't manage to finish the project, better luck this time I guess)

Off to a late start

Today was a very busy day and I didn't manage to make any progress

I still don't know what I'll do, the urge to make a pokélike is great, but I don't think I can pull this off in this little time

I'll use the end of the night to flesh out some ideas and spend the whole of tomorrow on the project, send me luck

Get ready for more kidnapping, version 3.0 of my LD53 game is out!

gRDj3Q.png

It's been a while now, but I updated my LD53 game, My Flavor(ite) Kidnapper!

Version 3.0 brings many new things, most of which I was planning back for the original jam version, and others were new ideas that came in the way

customer in.gif

This new update adds even more characters, a brand new Gallery where you can learn more about the people you kidnapped, some quality of life things like an in-game way to take notes, and more clear instructions. You can see the full changelog here: https://cosmicfox-games.itch.io/my-flavorite-kidnapper/devlog/830171/polish-update-version-30

I'm very happy with how the game is now, and I'm glad that people seem to like it! I love working on this project and the universe I created and it feels my heart with joy to see people enjoying it

Although the game is now in a state I'm happy with I'm still planning a follow-up update adding DLC and custom content support in the future. This way I can keep adding new content easily and give the player a chance to add their own too. And, if everything goes well, I'm planning a Steam release too

You can check My Flavor(ite) Kidnapper at: https://cosmicfox-games.itch.io/my-flavorite-kidnapper

Here's the original LD53 entry too: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/my-flavor-ite-kidnapper

I would like to remember that I'm also working on localizing the game, if you're interested, you can find out more here: https://cosmicfox-games.itch.io/my-flavorite-kidnapper/devlog/751368/help-needed-with-localization
