HexLands: A city builder with roguelike elements!

Hi guys!

I know you are all busy with LD51 and all (which I sadly couldn't attend this time ), and you shouldn't be reading my post during these trying times...

But I would like to introduce you to my second game: HexLands!

It's city builder with roguelike elements, set on procedural medieval islands! Expand your empire to as many islands as possible!

The original idea came up during LD50 but I was already working on another idea for the jam, so I put it on the shelf. But now, here it is! And demo is coming soon as well! 😁

Thanks for reading this far, and I hope you enjoy the devlog!

Tips on how to finish the compo in just 16 hours?

My girlfriend's grand mother wants a lift to the other side of the country to see a concert.

Of course it had to be this weekend.

Any tips on how could I save time and finish the compo in just 16 hours? (4 hours + 12 hours)

My first idea is to go cheap on visuals and go for an "only-text" or "simple shapes" project. I'm using Unity by the way.

Thanks in advance! :)

After 6 hours of brainstorming and polishing the chosen idea, I'm ready to go!

This time I wanted to try a different method: I didn't want to start working till I have a solid design!

So I've just started working on my submission where Vampire Survivor meets Unrailed!

Previously I always ended up with flawed, not so fun games, even if they were technically polished. I wanted to fix this.

So now I spent double the time, 6 hours on brainstorming and polishing, downscaling the idea to make sure that I'll work on the right and only on the must have things.

It feels like I can achieve everything by tomorrow evening, but we will see... there are always surprises on the way! :D

For example I'm making a 2D game again, which I haven't done in ages... so it's going to be exciting and risky for sure. But I feel 2D would fit my game better.

Anyway, good luck everyone! :)

A bit late...

A bit late with creating the project itself but I already have some basic walking! :)

48 hours, and "The Infernal Trail" is done! :)

I'd appreciate it if you could give it a try, Web build is available, also Windows, Linux and Mac!

Sadly I'm not allowed to link, so here it is in plaintext: ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/the-infernal-trail

  • The wagon must go west! I mean... not literally west, but it must reach its destination!

  • Build a road and lead (or deliver) the wagon to its home's safety!

  • While you have to fight off more and more, harder and harder devilish creatures!

  • 6 levels and 4 enemy types! They are getting harder and harder, but you also become stronger and stronger!

Thanks in advance, cheers everyone!

Hi guys!

Thanks to everyone who played The Infernal Trail, my compo entry where I tried to put Vampire Survivors on rails, really appreciate it! :)

In the past 2 weeks, I've been working on its post mortem, and finally it's done! :)

I hope you enjoy it, let me know what do you think!

Sadly I still can't post links, so here it is in plaintext and its thumbnail:

Giving Godot a go but, but Godot 4 .NET doesn't support Web export :\

Hi guys,

As personal challenge I plan to try Godot during LD54. :) Which is a bit risky, I know. But as a handicap I'll use C# because I've got tons of experience with it and never really liked script languages anyway.

But I've just learnt that Godot 4 with .NET doesn't support web export!

While Godot 3 with Mono (C#) and Godot 4 with GDScript support it.

So my question is: Are web builds crucial to get a good amount of ratings?

When rating games, I always get the feeling that web build games get a ton more ratings on average. And I understand why could this be the case.

Is this real? I don't want to just barely make the 20 ratings requirement. I want more to get a clearer picture on my entry.

However I don't want to try both a new engine and a new language during a game jam! And I also don't really want to use Godot 3 because there is Godot 4 and soon 3 will be outdated.

Have you managed to get 40-50+ ratings without a web build?

Let me know and thanks for your comments in advance!

Loot Goblin, my compo RPG which is solely about looting!

Hi guys!

Let me introduce you Loot Goblin, my little compo entry, where I tried to find out how would an RPG feel if there would be no combat, etc, just looting!

I had to cut corners here and there, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse... and maybe I spent too much time on the music and not enough time on the art.

I would link it here, but my links are still invisible for some reason.

But here it is, ready for copying: ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/loot-goblin

Don't forget to let me know what do you think! Really appreciated, cheers!

Hi guys, here's for another finished Ludum dare! :champagne: Let me introduce you my RTS/Base Builder called Treant Wars!

Check it out and play it in the browser here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/treant-wars

Anyway, below you can find a shorter description to save you some time. Oh, and feel free to suggest me your games in the comment section, cheers!

About

*The evil hordes are marching towards the sacred groves! *

In the heart of the groves, the Aether Tree stands tall, and you must protect it at all costs!

Can you endure the waves of evil minions and defeat their leader and save the realm?

Features

  • A healthy grove provides you a good amount of Aether, a pivotal resource for this task.

  • Ensure your grove flourishes and plant various trees, all with different behaviours:

    • When grown they provide various passive benefits.

    • And when the time comes, turn them into fierce treants!

    • However as treants, they lose their passive abilities, while they gain active ones!

  • Repel the melee Devilkins and Brutes, the fiery Imps, and keep the Scorchers at distance because they set your grove aflame!

  • Defeat their gargantuan leader and bring peace to the land once again.
