My version of "When coffee finally kicks in": When the acid finally kicks in

I've just realised that I've been watching knuckleses for at least 5 minutes buying tons of food in a half empty supermarket while Toto's Africa is going on the supermarket's radio. Well, it's funnier to prototype with these assets. (sorry for the dead meme)

There should be some kind of restriction for theme suggesting

People just type in 3 random words after 3 seconds of thinking.

How much time was invested in a suggestion if there are trivial spelling errors in it? Or it doesn't even make ANY sense. (Not in a creative way)

They suggest themes which aren't even themes. Forcing a genre or an art style or even an ENGINE on people is not really a theme. Lots of them are too specific, or too vague, or just repetitive. Or just a theme from the previous 5 jams.

(I could continue this whining for hours, but I won't. Just read the other posts about how garbage are most of the themes)

People don't really get how should they suggest a theme.

My suggestion is that there should be some restriction for theme suggesting. Like the easiest: only one suggestion. This will force them to think about it a bit more and lowers the amount of "instant-no" themes.

But also there could be something like: submit one game in a jam. Or reach an overall rating of 2.5 with a game.

You get the idea.

But now I have to stop writing because I have to finish the slaughter.

Due to requests, my game is now available on GitHub

Feel free to have a look  (sorry for the mess)

A Nightmare on the Canned Goods Aisle - A Ludum Dare 41 Post Mortem

Finally my LD41 post mortem is out!

First of all, a big shout-out to Phil Strahl for being an inspiration for competing in the jam and also for making this video. I wanted to make this for a long time but LD42 and lots of other things came ... but here it is.

Feedback is appreciated and feel free to subscribe for more game dev content. (like my LD42 game, "Vain"'s post mortem)

(The videos' quality will surely go up with practice! )

(WARNING: It may contain Toto's Africa and some Knuckleses.)

Made a quick showcase about my precious prototype: "Siege Game"

This idea came up during LD but it didn't really fit into the jam and it is also a bigger project. So I wrote it down for later use.

And here is the result: The first showcase/devblog about "Siege Game" (Yeah, that's a WIP Title )

Feedback is appreciated.

(Btw, shooting arrows is nearly implemented)

How I improved my Art as a Coder after LD41

I thought I should make a quick video between my LD41 and LD4 post mortems, maybe some of you will find it useful

(Sorry for advertising :\ )

"Siege Game" Update! - Items & Ballistics! Feedback is appricated :)

My workflow got a bit slower, but here it is. Surprisingly it's getting better each day.

You know you achieved something, when you realize that you've been playing with your game with your friends for 10 minutes and they aren't crying about how bad it is

Feedback is appricated!

Is using Asset Forge against the rules of the Compo?

I've just found this tool: https://assetforge.io/

The rules of the compo says that "Your game, all your content (i.e. Art, Music, Sound, etc) must be created in 48 hours."

And this tool lets me create objects by gluing simple premade components together.

So yes, I made the object ... but the components which it is made of ... is made by someone else.

Is this against the rules?

Finally managed to finish my LD42 Post Mortem...

It took me nearly 3 months... put all my heart into it ... and finally it's done.

Just before LD43!

Everyone get on the hype train!!!

(And thanks again to Pixel Prophecy for giving inspiritation.)

6 hours left and yesterday I finished my LD42 Post Mortem

I know that yesterday I already posted this ...

but I put in so much effort and I think I'm improving, but I need some feedback please

Are you ready for LD43?

Sadly I will only participate for 1 day due to having exams next week :\

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ts48sHZVNc

I'm out

This time I had only 1 day (16-18 hours) and after 6 hours I had a good and detailed idea. But then I realised that I don't have enough time for it and it wasn't what I wanted to do this time. It was just a one time enjoyable/interesting/sentimental game. Again.

Due to my time limitations I wanted to purely focus on coming up with a great mechanic, then add some basic art in the end. I wanted to make a game which is so simple and fun that I could enjoy it for a few hours at least.

Sadly I couldn't come up with anything innovative around "Sacrifice".

Next time I hope I will have more time and I will be able to focus better on my goals and spend the brainstorming stage more effectively.

Good luck ya all!

Ludum Dare games which got published/successful?

I was wondering:

Is there a list about games which were started at LD/other jams then later on got published on the market, maybe also got successful?

If there isn't and you know about a game, feel free to share with us under this post

Doom is 25 years old! Yaaaay!

So I'd like to recommend a book which is very close to me:

Masters of DOOM

by David Kushner

I wanted to make this video because it holds a special place in my heart, and luckily as it turns out, yesterday was Doom's 25th anniversary. Just in time  Yaaay

Just finished the workflow of creating destructible voxel models!

After finishing my exams and my Ludum Dare post mortem, I had finally time to work on "Siege Game".

I managed to create a workflow which lets me *transform any voxel model into destructible Unity3D prefabs under 30 seconds. * And I'm a bit happy about it, so I thought I should share my joy

(And it's pretty useful because the player's build system is nearly completed  )

I'd gladly answer any questions and feedback is appreciated!

I've just started my personal game jam, called "8 Hours, 8 Colors"

I wanted to come up with a good idea, so I thought: why not just start a quick game jam?

The rules are simple: You have 8 hours to make a game with 8 colors.

*If it's fun with that many colors, it will be fun when it's polished as well. *

Anyone wants to participate as well?

(Fun fact: the theme was inspired by Adventure)
