Ready for my first Ludum Dare!

I’m making a horrible decision and using SFML/C++ for my game. Luckily I managed to scope it out pretty small, so this Shouldn’t Be Too Hard™.

Here’s a picture of my battlestation!

[Hour 3]Progress report

Whoever said using C++ was a bad idea, TAKE THAT HATER! Debug circles! Yea!

Bedtime for now

If anyone’s interested, I’m hosting my project on Github. You can watch my crazy fluctuations of good and bag commit messages.

Time for sleep. I’ll be back tomorrow with a full energy bar :)

I just discovered the Foodphoto tag

Last night’s menu: This delicious pizza.

For a progress report: I’d say I’m 70% finished with all major mechanics. Currently working on the player’s parachute functionality. After that, it’s level ending (both win and loss conditions) and then level reloading/transitions. 😀

C++ is fun.

When you don’t have time for SCRUM

Use the next best thing! Google Keep stickies! You can even use them on your phone for when you’re out of the room and come up with another thing to do!

Always good to keep track and note ideas. I use trello for it :)

I just discovered the LD tools page

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/tools/

I love that this page is so well maintained.
I also love inudge.net and Bfxr. They turned my game’s audio from really crappy things I made in FLStudio to really decent things I’m actually enjoying listening to 😀

Time for the end of jam crunch!285b541465c411e3ba591293cad68979_8

LD29

Halfway there!

I’m not very good at game jams apparently. Last time I did C++, now we’re doing HTML5 (no prior HTML5 experience).

The good news is, we’ve got the “engine” up and running, now we’re actually working on gameplay! Soon I’ll be able to fire up Pickle and start animating… once I get the game loop working.

LD30 – Return of the Compo

I attempted and failed to jam for LD29, so this time I’m going to solo compo. I’ve already set aside the weekend, so I shouldn’t run into any more issues™.

My tools:

  • Unity (2D mode) + Either Sublime Text or Monodevelop
  • Pickle Editor (finally going to buy it!)
  • Photoshop if necessary
  • Some audio creation loopy software. I’m no good at that.

And so it begins

Time to stop procrastinating and start making a game!

Just finished buying Pickle and setting up the git repo.

Ready to Compo!

I’m going to try making a small in scope but ambitious mobile and web game. I plan to use Unity and publish to Android. Let’s see how well I can scope things out!

Progress!

I decided to take some actions to better organize my Jam. I’ve got this nice TODO list that I’m slowly checking things off of as I complete/implement them. I usually just write that down on scratch but it seems to be more effective in the repo.

PROGRESS SHOT! Note: I hate how these players look, I will be changing the art dramatically

Wrapped up Red & Iron for LD31

Revive fallen allies! Sneak around! All on mobile! (or desktop)

I’m making a submission post here just in case I don’t get back in time for submission (have to pick up a tree today).

Theme: Entire Game on One Screen

How to Play

Android:

  • Movement: Joystick controls. Single finger

Desktop:

  • Movement: WASD
  • Sprint: Shift

Objective

You are a medic trapped behind enemy lines on an unsuccessful mission. Travel from level to level
reviving your fallen soldiers. Approach a fallen soldier and you will start healing them. It takes about a
second to fully heal someone, so don’t get spotted! Enemies will shoot you on sight.
Once you’ve secured all your comrades on the level, head to the lit up door to progress.

Tools

Unity 4.6.0f3
NGUI 3.7.7 (Not included in repository for legal reasons)
Pickle Editor

I clearly know what I’m supposed to do but it takes just a little bit of time to find where I am on the map. If there was a visual queue to highlight where I am, I can get back a little time.

Starting the Jam on the train home

My SO will be out of town for the weekend, which means I will have a good amount of time to be a bum and do LD33 all weekend.

Language: Javascript

Frameworks: PIXI.js

Editors: Sublime Text and Chrome inspector

Tools: Git, Pickle (but I might switch to Pyxel), Audacity + Other random sound generator I find

Ideas: None 😀

Finished a single level and full gameplay logic

Woo! I woke up later than anticipated today so I wasn’t able to author more levels, but I did technically finish.

I’m going to submit into Jam instead of Compo so I can do more work on it, but I “finished” in Compo time by a few minutes xD

LD37 is a goooooooo

At least I have a bunch of notes on paper already. It has to do with penguins and coffee. I tricked/convinced a friend to join me in this Jam.

LD 38

Ready to Jam!

I planned out my whole weekend to prepare for the jam. AKA: Spent zero time preparing!

Managed to come up with a game idea at dinner though! (very related) so that's nice.

Midday Day 2 status update

Have some nice tight designs down, now it's a matter of remembering my Data Structures to get the backend representation even cleaner.

Hoping to finish the full gameplay loop tonight and then dedicate the rest of the time to art.

Gettin sleepy

A rudimentary full gameplay loop is in. What do you do when you're an Octopus who happens to be really good at making sushi?

Just need to do a lot of art polish and add music and some form of menu flow and then do the usually extremely-limited quantity of tweaking!
