My game is getting into a playable state now!
Progress:
– added fire that hurts you
– added stardust
-added a little HUD thingy
– added 7 levels
– added a (secret) ending screen
My first LD game is finally finished! Its a box-pushing game – inspired by PUSHY! 😀

My second Ludum Dare entry is finished! It’s a game about a mole who needs to bounce off things as he progresses further downwards to gain more points.
What makes this game special is that you have a limited movement range, and you constantly need to renew that range by bouncing and setting a new angle for forward movement, which makes for some really interesting gameplay!
You can check it out here:
I came up with an idea for this LD almost immediately after I saw that Connected Worlds had over 800 votes in the first round – and over the next two/three days, I’ve been really excited about implementing it, but I was also a little scared that it might be too much content for such a short time, but I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made today. I got pretty much all the main mechanics done, and they turned out really fluid due to me also doing a platformer practice game two or three weeks ago. This game has some really unique combination of mechanics – until now it’s basically a mix of Within a Deep Forest and Crillion, quite an unusual combination I’d say 😛 I have the music done already too, I’ve made it a habit to compose music a few days before the LD starts because I find it’s just way too time consuming otherwise. Tomorrow will probably be about adding obstacles, and some more different graphics. Also, I coded OVER 15 HOURS today, a new personal record, that’s for sure! 😀
This is how the world (well, technically two worlds and the space between that connects them) currently looks like!
When I first thought about the “Connected Worlds” theme, I came up with an idea pretty much immediately, probably because I’ve wanted to make a game with bouncy ball mechanics like in Within a Deep Forest for a long time, so I made the connection in my head and found that the theme could have an amazinig amount of potential for this kind of mechanics! When I thought about it further, the ideas for this game just started adding up, and at the beginning it was a little overwhelming because I could think of so many things to add to this game – but now, after making this my biggest LD yet and working on the game for a whole 40 hours over the three days, I find that the game feels complete – I managed to add pretty much everything that I wanted, and I can’t think of any big changes that I’d still need to make!
The game starts with the concept of a bouncy ball that could bounce to potentially infinite heights by keeping the jump button pressed, and this reaching of big heights is used as a transition between the different worlds! There are also different area types in the game, all of them feeling a little differerent in both the environment and the mechanics. It’s hard to explain what the connection between the worlds looks like, you’d have to see for yourself! 😛

Here’s the link to the game. I have to go to sleep now because I have school tomorrow, and because my head feels like it doesn’t work properly anymore. I’ll leave you with some pictures!
Don’t feel like writing much so I’ll just leave you with a link to the finished game. If you’re a fan of the MMO Tibia, you should give it a shot because it has quite similar combat mechanics! 😀

I just remembered I didn’t make a post with my game here yet. This is the fifth time I entered a Ludum Dare, and the result is certainly my most complex game so far, there’s a lot of different mechanics! The game in itself is really hard to describe… It’s basically a combination of a puzzle and an idle/progression game (though the idle elements are only really used at the end). You’re a lawnmower that can shoot seed balls to grow plants or destroy enemies, and new plants can be created to maneuver the level or to farm more seeds.
Give it a try here: Lawnmower Puzzle
I didn't get much done gameplay-wise today because it took me so long to create this mountain tileset. Looking at it it doesn't seem so difficult to create but it took me like... 9 hours I think? o_O But I wanted to have a nice-looking mountain tileset since I want the game to take place in a world that only consists of a single mountain, with the goal being to climb that mountain.

Still not sure how much gameplay I'll actually be able to put into this. Probably not much. But hey, you'll have a nice procedurally generated world to explore :)

I ran into a large bug close to the deadline so I wasn't able to add more than 2 levels to my game, but I'm very happy with how the game plays otherwise :)
