Folklore theme Hot Take

Love it or hate it, it's a divisive theme. And I fear the ratings for the theme category will be divisive too. That's why I made this post. For a lot of reasons which we debated on Discord, folklore is not an ideal theme if you want to stick to real life cultures (not knowing enough on others's but not wanting to be forced to do on your own,...) but it becomes very very large if you wanna create something new. Basically no limits.

Still, I prefer the later option. So if folklore ends up winning, I say it : I encourage people who want to put some effort into the story/setting (not those who just focus on gameplay) to come up with their own fantasy/non-real culture and create their own folklore. Yes, I that's what we're planning to do and I encourage you doing the same. I don't want to play 100+ games on greek myths or werewolfs and I'll personnaly give a lot more points if you create something new.

My team and I will create a culture, its folklore and derives interesting story and mechanics from there. "Does it really has anything to do with the thème ?" Well. Yes. But maybe not what you expected from it. Yes, this theme has divisives expectations, so will have divisive ratings. I encourage you all to give good ratings (if deserved) to original folklores, in hope that people won't be afraid to do it because it "wouldn't fit the theme". No, it does.

But maybe folklore won't win ^^'

The Sky Pirates Warmup..

Since Sky Pirates is no longer a choice.. but I was still craving an excuse to make a little triplane and fly it around in Godot...

I'm in once again!

Well, some time has passed since last time I entrered. I was much less organised, but now I am ready.

My stack: - Engine: Unity - Sound: Bosca Ceoil - Sound effects: jsfxr - Art: Aseprite

I'm in!

♫ It's time to play the game. Time to play the game! Hahahahaha. ♫

First time here

I always wanted to participate, but never knew when this was happening. Well, there's always a first time. I'll be using Pygame for this thing. Let's see what we can do!

Back at it

I was really happy with how our submission went last year, and excited to be working with mostly the same team again!

I'm in

I'm in baby!!! Check out my twitch tonight: https://www.twitch.tv/shxdowcorey

Back for another Ludum Dare

Haven't done a Ludum Dare since the 47th edition. Will try to make a little game with a friend from our team “A cordon Bleu”. Since there is only two of us this time, it must remember to keep it simple !

Chocolat-endive is back!

Yay! We're so excited for this LD! We've changed a lot of things in our lives recently (new job, new place, etc.) and we're quite tired, but we're as ready as we can be.

So, we’re in for this Ludum Dare. I present you the Chocolat-Endive team:

  • The almighty Bouteille is specialised into code and can help with graphics (if we make a 3D game, she's the specialist).
  • Zhao (me), ready to make some music, graphical assets, make some coffee, and help with game design.

Our stations are ready and fully operational. Always fun to share some bad and dark photos. Here is mine: DSCF5473.JPG

And Bouteille’s: DSCF5477.JPG

So, what tools are we going to use?

  • Godot engine (this thing is wonderful)
  • Krita and Gimp for 2d
  • Blender and Magicavoxel for 3d (if we make some 3d stuff, it's been a long time!)
  • Qtractor or Reaper and Audacity for recording on computer
  • Brains if we find some

We'll probably use some other tools, but that's a start.

Bonus photo, my music setup: DSCF5470.JPG That's a bunch of synth, some gameboys, guitar pedals, and weird instruments.

You'll probably won't heard anything from us at the beginning, because we'll be sleeping when the event start. But hey, sleep is important! I really hope you'll all enjoy this event, because Ludum Dare is a pretty special thing. And I can't wait to see and play all (well, not really all, obviously) your games.

Have a nice jam everybody!

Add LD50 to r/place

Lets add LD 50 to r/place. I've started at 473, 477 LD50place.png

HHYYYYPEEEE

Less than five hours for the start... Good luck everyone and let's hope for a fun theme!

Can't wait :D

Had fun every time I joined, so if I like the theme I'm gonna join again! I won't have much time, but I didn't have the other times either so should be fine!

Sharing more "tips"

It's become tradition for me to "plug" my little Github pages site detailing free software for every possible task every jam. It came around about a year ago after I saw several people asking "what's a good free tool to do x in".

I wanted to create a resource for those people and this is what JamTips is! It's not my personal site, there's no ads or links to my stuff - I created it purely with the goal of sharing some cool tools and helping someone out. It's all open source so if you know a tool you think should get added to the list, open a PR or let me know!

Either way if that's your jam, it's called "JamTips" and you can find a link to it below. If not then enjoy the jam and best of luck to you!

My 3rd time let's go

This is my third time partipating in ludum dare one time in compo one time in jam but this time I am going to do compo

I'm In!

It's been a few LDs since I last made an "I'm in" post (even though I've participated in every LD from 44 to 49!), so I figured I would do so this time.

Tools: - Graphics: Aseprite - Code: Neovim - Music: JummBox (BeepBox derivative) - SFX: ChipTone - Game engine: Löve

Goals: - Complete a fully working game (preferably within 48 hours but if I take longer I'll just submit it as a jam entry) - Better time management! - Learn procedural generation

Good luck to everyone, have fun and don't forget to take care of yourself!

I'm in!

For the past few weeks I've been going back over my Unity code and ~~cringing at~~ fixing it. It's been a while since I last jammed in Unity but I work professionally in C# now so it was quick to pick up again. And realize how bad my code was.

My goal for the LD weekend is to rapidly improve my codebase and make something playable. I've only just got back into it, so not expecting much from the end product. If it's really disastrous, I might try the new "casual" mode.

Also hoping to do some music. I like to do music.

I even have music you can use if you're not doing Compo. [/shameless self promo]

Good luck everybody!

I'm in!

My first and last ldjam was 40, It's been a while but I'm back. We're all going to make something special!

Will be entering solo this time

Haven't done a LD solo since LD15 but I can't miss out on big number 50. I'll be using:

  • Godot
  • Aseprite
  • Probably some tracker software (perhaps LSDJ or something else depending on what I decide to do)

And I'll be streaming over at my twitch.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm in !

I'll be in this year. Did LD 48 last year, and was waiting for this one. Unfortunately I'm not on holidays this time, and while I'm not working on the week end, I'll still need to sleep to be fresh by monday, plus I have to go to a concert tomorrow night (a friend's premiere !). But hey, it's just a bit of a bonus challenge to have less time, just gotta try.

So I'm going to sleep now and wake up in 4h to see what will be the next 48h flavor. I hope it won't be Mutation because I already did an other jam with friends with this theme, tho it could be fun to try a jam with other ideas.

I'll use Godot this year, along with Aseprite, and probably SFXR. And, of course, a pen and a notebook !

Can't wait to play the games submited !
