Ludum Dare 58 October 3–6, 2025

Ludum Dare 58!

I am very excited for Ludum Dare 58! Can’t wait to see what the theme will be!! I hope it has something to do with exploration and adventuring new places.

I'm in for LD58

Yo,

I haven't done Ludum Dare (or any other jams) in ages. It is time for me to get back into the swing of things. I do have some maintenance and stuff to fix around the house, so I hope I'm able to finish something.

My (intended) toolset:

  • Framework: raylib
  • Language: C/C++
  • Text Editor: Zed
  • Level Editor: ldtk
  • Graphics: Aseprite
  • Sound/Music: Audacity, LMMS, bfxr

Good luck to everyone and let's have an awesome time.

Deciding my toolset to improve my art skills!

It’s so cool seeing everyone’s different toolsets!

So here’s mine:

Engine: Unreal Engine 5

Language?: Blueprints

Graphics: PhotoShop (ZBrush if I do 3D, but probably sticking to 2D with UE5 gray boxing this time)

Animation: Procreate Dreams

I think Unity or Godot might be more suitable for my plans, but I’m more familiar with UE5 so I will do my best haha!

I’ve never gotten to the audio stage in this short of a time limit. But if I do, I will be looking at everyone’s suggestions so far!

Hyped!

So many good themes in the final round this year, really looking forward to participating!

I'll be making the game while lying down...

This is my second Ludum Dare. During the last one, I spent so much time sitting at the computer that I developed hemorrhoids.

Since then, I've been trying to manage the condition, went on special diets, but in the end, I couldn't work properly for six months.

So yesterday I went and had surgery. In 10-14 days, I'll be able to sit in a chair and make games.

But that doesn't mean I'm going to miss the long-awaited Ludum Dare. So I'll take my laptop and my XP-Pen graphics tablet and do my best to make a good game while lying in bed. Construct 3 will be my helper.

Although tomorrow I also have to go to a birthday party... I hope I can finish the game.

Good luck, everyone, and take care of your health

Hello, world!

Hi, everyone! Im having a gamedev blog in russian here (https://t.me/WRGDM), and i hope to take part in LD58. As it is my first gamejam, I hope, itll be at least, fun and experiencing ;)

I want to know your favorite of the themes, and game ideas

IMG_0554.jpeg

I’m rather fond of space games, and I like the idea of Navigation as the theme. Imagine your sailing craft in space, solar sails trimmed to align with the solar plane, you’re awake to check your position in space, make adjustments, hoping to align your craft for a gravity corridor opening up between Jupiter and Saturn. All you have is the sun at your back, a telescope and the stars in the sky around you.

  • Find and chart the position of the planets
  • if your target is a moon, find or calculate the moons position
  • figure out where you are in space by triangulating
  • work out your speed by comparing to previous measurements
  • tweak the sails, or burn precious fuel to make a course adjustment
  • hibernate for days or months

if you miscalculated, or you put the sails in the wrong position your could be hundreds of thousands of miles from where you expected to be.

But get it right, and you’ll fly by the most beautiful planets, moons, stars, or trail along side comets as they sparkle in the light of the sun, or run silent in the shade of deep space

Just writing that gets me excited for a crazy like that!

preparation for ludum dare 58

Ludum Dare is about to begin. I am preparing a project and testing the possibility of automatic builds when creating commits. To be honest, I am nervous. This is my first Ludum Dare; I have participated in two jams before, but I did not prepare well and did not finish in time. This time, I am better prepared (at least I've freed up more time and now I can devote more time to the jam). I hope you have a good time. Good luck, everyone.

inattentive

How careless of me. Since this is my first time on this site, I didn't see my previous posts. I apologize for sending similar posts.

I'm definitvely in!

Ten years since my very first LD! Back then, I was using C++ with SFML. I then chose Godot for the last Ludum Dares.

For this edition I'm going to use Rust with the framework macroquad and the ECS library hecs.

I really love Rust programming and I'm very excited to use for the first time in a Ludum Dare!

Dev Stack

Dev environment :penguin: GNU/Linux (Archlinux)

Language :crab: Rust

Framework :construction_site: Macroquad

Text Editor :pencil2: Emacs

Level editor :map: Tiled

Graphics :art: Pixelorama

Musics / Sounds :musical_note: LMMS

Good luck everyone!

Guys, important question

Since most of our team has experience working primarily with Unreal Engine, we decided to use it for the game jam as well. Based on this, we have concerns about the size of the build. We will try to keep it as small as possible, but we would also like to hear your opinion.

What size build would you be willing to download and play? Please write in the comments! Thank you in advance!

Another one!

Im joining this one! Just like my last entry I will be using Rust and WGPU with no engine, Neovim as my editor and Aseprite for graphics. See you all on the other side!

I'm in!

This will be an interesting game jam i hope. A week ago my son told me "we have on the 3th october a country wide free day"...i just totally forgot about :). So its a real chilli start in this jam..i relax and prepare until the clock hits ghost hour :D

My setup: - Game Engine: Game Maker probably (or Godot) - Language: GML or C# - IDE: Rider (if C#) - Graphics: Aseprite - Music: Beepbox, FL studio - *Sound: Bfxr, Famitracker

Engine is a broader topic. I switched from Unity to Game Maker some years ago for a couple of reasons. As i develop for consoles i wanted an engine which supports at least switch and PS4 & PS5 and doest cost too much...thats the most reason i currently using Game Maker now:).

As usual: some tips from a vetaran

To be best prepared for the jam here are some smaller advices:

  • Sleep, drink, code, design, repeat: Just sleep enough and also take care of yourself. It should make fun but tbh it will also be stressful sometimes.
  • Core loop first, design second: It's an advice which i also often not really follow even if i should :) try to get the core loop first with place holder graphics and then loop if this is what you feel.
  • **Small but not too small: Yeah i learned that too :) Too small is bad if the game is too short. Too large is also not good if they are not fully hooked...so keep it in the middle and keep an eye that the game is makeable around 5-10 minutes.
  • Not too hard and not too easy: Sometimes you have players who love hardcore platforming and often you have not for example. Maybe you can just try that the first levels are easier makeable and then try to raise the difficult.
  • Build your game somemtimes: More a Unity tip is too build your game from time to time to see if it work that way. Often WebGL has issues.
  • Focus yourself with streaming: Sometimes it is helpful to stream your development on twitch so that you can not so easily be distracted.
  • Template Project: Get your tools and a small template project ready before the jam start (this is allowed as you can use a base codebase if it is your own).
  • Music: If you are not great musican like me and if you don't make it to compo (maybe you need more time or you are in a small team) it is ok to use music from opengamearg.org or other resources which allows you to use it. You need to opt out but it makes the whole game feel better which gives better rates on the other categories if the music is not shit.
  • Use a new gamengine...not: Well that is also an advice from many veterans. Use the tools you know best. If you need to learn it would take much longer. BUT: it is also a good oportunity to learn this new engine. So if you goal is not to get good ratings but to force yourself to learn new tools - go for it. The motivation for it is awesome.

At least i wish you all a happy gamejam !

I'm In! 12th LD in a Row

Excited to participate with the rest of y'all!

Since the last time I was participating I made myself a little web tool on a static web page. Its meant to help me visualize the blockers and available tasks I have. I've used Jira and Trello in the past and i wasn't a big fan of visualizing stuff in columns or lists.

Productivitree.png

I made it resemble a talent tree in WoW haha, but the nodes can be rearranged. I've shown it to a few friends and they've expressed interest in using it, so I made it public on my site! If you wanna give it a shot, feel free! It doesn't store any data, and has capability of importing/exporting json if you want to take your workspaces and move them across machines or git repos.

Lemme know if you get use out of it :)

Something new

We at GamesEverMade are excited to be back here for the 4th time. This time, we’ll be taking a different approach — stepping out of our comfort zone and attempting to build something with a cool mechanic. I wish everyone the best of luck, and may we all have fun while seeing who comes up with the best game.

Hello, world!

Can't wait to join Ludum Dare 58!

Excited to begin.

Going to make this project with just C and Raylib. Get ready to have some fun!
