So, to make this question quick.
I want to add a scoreboard. We can't make postjam additions. Should I add it anyway?
The long story short is that I've been watching LD streams, and I really like seeing this trend of community high scores. Watching jitspoe and Adam C Younis the other day going to war over RexTGUN's game was a fun sight and made me realize just how cool it is to hold a scoreboard for an event. It reinforces the community aspect of the ratings period brilliantly.
While we got a scoring program into our final LD game, I only learned how to put together an online scoreboard after the jam rating period had commenced.
So, the question I have is this: would it be acceptable to patch this online feature into the game during the jam period, or does it have to be postjam?
This was my first Game Jam, and even if I worked with a friend who had some experience with them, I didn't know what workflow to expect, so when the Unstable Theme came out I was mentally already thinking about how to work a PC prototype first.
However this was the result: an Android Game using the accelerometer as a main feature.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/extreme-restaurant-simulator
I was surprised how fast we came up to the initial concept. First, we looked at Unstable with the most logical stuff: something that causes explosions, maybe chemical, or just a lack of balance, even deconstructing the word as Un-Stable and then creating something involving animals. I was fidgeting with the phone in the hand, and the "lack of balance" Concept made me think about balancing something through the accelerometer, with controls similar to a driving game. So I said "What if there was a tray with stuff, and you are a waiter trying to balance it? Through the accelerometer." In my head it was a waiter going from the left to the right on-rail and you have the classic sidescrolling 2D experience. But my colleague Contro1990 surprised me by replying:"Yeah, the phone could be the tray and you have to hold it like a Tray!" And this subverted my expectations and cemented them: from a simple thought we went from something that could've been made for both PC ( arrows ) and Android, to something where the phone is the main instrument of the gameplay itself.
Then the development started after about 1 hour from the start, which saved a LOT of time.
I don't know if this is the usual train of thought, or even if there is a norm for concepting for a Jam, but what are your thoughts about that? I'd like to know more about your experiences, if you had some.

Haywire is a game about a big shotgun that is sometimes controllable and sometimes goes haywire because of the massive amount of energy flowing through it. The gun is your weapon but also your means of moving around the levels.
If blasting a big ol' shotgun sounds fun to you, give the game a try!

So far I've been receiving great feedback from everyone, while the current iteration has a lot of problems I cannot thank everyone enough for the constructive criticism I've received.
I’m still trying to get those 20 ratings to get a score, so please do try out my game and give me some feedback, and make sure to leave a rating!

Hello, everyone! We added subtitles in our game — RoughTrain!
Hope you enjoy it 😊
My last game jam was Ludum Dare 40. This year I wanted to hop back in with a friend of mine who did an excellent job with musics and sounds. This was a great experience to share with him and this community is super positive and consctructive, so a big thanks !
Here is the pitch to our game : The Flamingo Files :
As an eminent scientist, you have been hired in a strange underground Microbiology Department. Where samples of unknown tissues and cells are studied.Observe and check the samples through your microscope to detect unstable cells. Fill out accordingly the forms and don't forget to validate them. They are precious regarding the activities of the Microbiology Department you're working for.

Ps : Sorry for the tiny texts. We'll improve on that next time :) Now I'll just go back testing your games !
You've got to be gentle with the reactor. Hold down your mouse, wriggle a bit and the core will go critical in seconds. Instead, keep feeding neutrons to the core calmly and you'll have power 'till Christmas! - Some nuclear technician, somewhere, probably.

That's it. *shot sound that fades deep inside your brain* I got my 20 ratings recieved, so here it is: post mortem, for those who liked and for those who haven't seen "It is rainy" yet.

That's a short story: Early saturday I was walking home, just after mine 8-th lesson ended. I was pondering: what game I can create to make it fit unstable theme. I stepped into the puddle, my sneaker bacame wet. "Hell! Pavement was dry this morning!". Instantaniously my brain got an idea. Weather. Weather is unstable!
I had enormous amount of plans and ideas I wanted to implement. But there is a rule, simple and cruel. Divide all your ideas by 20. I did it, so there is things (in priority ascending order) I wanted to put in this project, but cut and smashed them with a hammer: 1. Wind map, simply a map with procedurally generated vector field, this had to effect all meteorogical parameters, 2. Anemometer (wind gauge), disdrometer (some kind of rain gauge, but much more interesting), 3. Notepad, where you can draw with a pencil (It was supposed to help you store measurments, before sending them), 4. Electricity bill, to make you save electricity, turning off board and lights, 5. Sounds, for rain, wind and even nature to increase atmosphere, 6. Computer minigame, so you have an ability to play computer game inside computer game.

Things I learned:
P.S. This facts are also advises, that may ~~or not~~ help you.
Game design: - Cut, beat, disintegrate ideas you really like, but feel that there is no time to implement them. - Small details make your picture look awesome. You may have no skill in drawing or design, but working hard on detalisation - guarantees good result.
Code: - Proper way to access protected variables. Use methods to access other's object variable, do not do it directly. - Custom inspector may majorly increase your gamedesign possibilities and effectivness. Try it out, it is not hard.
Art: - It doesn't matter if you draw things incorrect, not like your art teacher does it. "It is rainy" has broken perspective, just look at bed or at table. - Spend more time chosing color palette, good one makes image juicy and colorful.
Oh, you read all of these? I do not believe. Get a :cookie: and do not forget to prepare for your firing squad :)
