Hi! I’m a writer, editor, and published game designer. If you have a dialogue-heavy game, I’d be happy to check out your plans and join your team to write and/or edit. Reach out!
Noticed that some of my students would flourish in something like PICO-8, so I'm jamming with it for the first time to get a handle on the toolset. Any advice or resources to point me to, would be much appreciated! ^-^ (*im currently experienced with unity/python/scratch)
Happy LD49 everyone!
This is my 9th Ludum Dare - I haven't missed one since LD40! The jams are awesome and even if I don't finish, I always have a blast! This time though, I'll be jamming with my girlfriend, and it'll be her first game! I'm super excited to make something with her, it'll be super fun jamming with someone who's so new to the game dev.

Here's what we'll be using:
Engine: Unity (if we're making a 2D game) / UE4 (if we're making a 3D one - Blueprints are awesome for beginners)
2D Art: Photoshop, Piskel
3D Art: Blender
Sound/Music: Audacity, Garage Band

I can't wait for this weekend - it'll be a jam to remember!

I have been programming an Unity plugin that allows rendering into an oscilloscope. What better time to battle test it than LDJAM!
So I'm only new to coding. I started school a month ago, and only really touched the basics. We've been building a 2D farming sim game, (essentially a stardew clone), and have only really covered things like movement, inventory systems, dialogue, tree cutting (without tools), and small things like that, so I have no idea why I thought I would join a jam....
But you know what? Even if it's a total mess of a game that doesn't even play at all, at least I can say I gave it a go. And who knows? I might be able to pull off a basic clicker game, and that will be an accomplishment of its own.

This'll be my third game release this year, and my seventh overall. I'm not doing anything fancy, literally just a minigame probably. Something I can pop out the door and be done with. I just want to get another game done. Let's gooooo!

In less than six hours the theme will be announced. I am HYPED! I will be working together with a friend this time (@ithebreather ). This is our schedule for the first day!
No, but all seriousness: we will actually find out what the theme is about 9 hours later. That way we will start brainstorming together, we thought that would be more fun.
Things I learned last time: - If you add a scoreboard, make sure to support characters like "öäåáàèé" - People loved the addition of a character creator. Some kind of player interaction makes the game more fun. - If you are making a text adventure, please realize that the majority of the time won't be programming or making graphics. I spent a total of 24 hours perfecting the plot last time. As a programmer, that was not the most fun experience haha - If you do something with genders, think about it carefully :-)
For the newcommers: first of all, welcome and have fun! Don't forget, the most important part of this weekend is YOU! So: - Stay hidrated - Take care of yourself - Make sure to take a strawl once in a while to clear your mind - If you have access to a good deskchair, use it properly to spare your back. Or take a strawl more often if you are limited to the kitchenchair of a couch. - Don't overscope your project to prevent stress.
I'm gonna make a game. Good luck to everyone participating.
Hi all!
First LD here - I'm aiming for the Jam, but I'm a heady team of one so a little bit nervous and quite excited.
3D Art - Blender, Substance Painter
2D Art - Photoshop
Engine - Unity3d
Sound - Audacity, JFXR, Beepbox
Planning and Design - Pureref, pen and paper!
There's a slim chance I might end up in the compo but I suspect this will be jam so I don't have to worry about shaders and some of the more boring bits - but we'll see how it goes and what the theme is!
Fingers crossed it goes well and good luck all!
This is my 3rd attempt I'll be using
Haxe Heaps.io Gimp Audacity
What's the worst that can happen?
I am joining Ludum Dare for the 3rd time.
Good luck!

1) Don't quit.
It doesn't matter what you've finished with. Release it anyway.
Yes, even if it's broken.
Releasing a game is something many developers don't get enough experience in, because 9/10 of us finish 1/10 of our projects. This is one thing that makes jams so great. Get a game done, make it play, and get the experience you need in releasing and managing it. Take advantage of this time and learn.

2) Watch your scope. Please.
It's incredibly easy to say "I'll just make a simple platformer" or "I'll just make a simple match-3 game", but those games aren't nearly as simple as you think they are. Try if you must, because it'll show you exactly what we're talking about when we say "go even simpler than that", but please, go even simpler than that. Trust me. This is my 11th year of gamedev, I like to think I know what I'm talking about.

3) Don't be discouraged by other projects.
This one's really hard. You're going to see progress updates that look amazing, and people's work that makes yours look like first-year garbage. But here's the thing: your work is your work. Be proud of what you're making. We like to say "the real prize in a game jam is the fact that you actually did it". These people are just a bit further along than you are, and that's totally okay. Keep on it, don't get discouraged, and you'll get to that point yourself soon enough!
We are the team from Saint-P. , Russia! Taking part in LD for the first time in this composition!
Good Luck everyone :v:
Been obsessing over Diablo II so that may play into some inspiration!
