Lot's of progress here!
Made a good bit of progress for the first night. Already finished the character model and the majority of the core mechanics, hope everyone else's games are going great!

it's not quite "first playable in the first 12 hours" but after 8 hours of thinking and mulling and brain designing, here's my sketch before bed:

There shall be no explanations.
Start graphics and mechanics

Usually when I wake up during the first day of LD I instantly start panicking when seeing the theme and I immediately start burst out (relatively bad) ideas. This time I decided to take a peaceful walk before booting up my PC and within only half an hour I had an idea that I could work on! I hope I will remember this for all future episodes.
It's not a ludum dare until you crash your game engine.
Game is supposed to be sort of an ice physics sidescrolling puzzle platformer with instant death mechanics (It's cursed and we love it), so the natural place to start is collision detection because we don't have a game without it, right? 8 hours in, and progress is being made, but she's starting to get really annoyed as every solution leads to more problems. Started with infinite friction and jittering, then corner troubles and jittering on tile seams, then slipping through walls, then sliding along and through ceilings...
Long story short, we tried to have collisions set momentum in the approaching direction to 0. But, since the player is by definition touching a surface during a collision, the code for collision detection became an impromptu recursive function. Unity could not handle it.
She's certain we're close to a breakthrough on this. I, for one, believe her. But it's going to be a trial, especially when I can't look at code without going cross-eyed and this is our first foray into the wonderful world of side-scrolling jumping games.

You're a waiter delivering sushi to a bunch of frogs. You have to balance a jenga tower of sushi and the frogs can get it off balance when they take sushi off it.
Here's Sushi Jenga's gamepage so you can check our progress later :)

   ...but what does it have to do with the theme? :knife:
This is the first time for me to LD, It's excited , (though I am late ), Let's do it. ^_^
My game is going to be about a cowgirl in a glass maze. Don't touch the walls! Here is a little sprite animation.

It turns out that "stable" is a verb. So what happens if we "un" that verb...

I'm streaming the dev' of my game about a monk trying to meditate at the peak of a mountain against the elements. twitch.tv/lamisolah
Not sure how this whole thing works totally. But here we go.
The most I did today was make five ambient loops that will serve as the background music. I'll probably make a few more.
Hey FL Studio users - if you wanna make unique ambient music really easily, just start throwing random samples into Fruity Convolver. Works like a charm.
.
I don't really have anything else to show, so I'm gonna go to bed and work as hard as I can tomorrow. Don't know if I'll finish this in time for the compo. Frankly, I don't know if I really care. As long as I get it published for the jam then I'll be satisfied.
Oh, have I mentioned I've never finished a game before? Yeah. This'll be fun. I'm assuming that 80% of the other submissions will use Kevin MacLeod or some sh*t like that for music so I'll get a decent Audio score by default. Fingers crossed :P

Test of ball physics

So last night while I was streaming I came up with this one idea. It seemed a bit too ambitious so today I came up with an idea over breakfast. This is my first LD but I wanted to share how I came up with it. I just thought of something that could be unstable and then I thought of something that could be unstable in a particular place and then I just kept doing this and making up more and more mechanics that match with my last idea and eventually I got this really nice idea about a superhero who does awesome stuff (don't want to give spoilers)
Edit: this idea turned out to be shit
As always, no idea where this is headed, but it's probably going to be pretty spoopy!

Lots of progress today, hoping to implement enemies in the next few hours...
You control an old man's dog and you try to go for a walk without your owner falling down. He's a nuclear warhead after all.
Now I'm trying to do the physics regarding the leash, this isn't the kind of instability I was expecting but I'm getting there.

Spent the last couple hours working on the group entry for the Jam. What we started with was the idea of a management simulation - as the carnival slowly breaks down as patrons use it. You're tasked with repairing it.
What I've completed here as a first draft is just a bunch of bathrooms, which are also considered "attractions", along with the rides and food vendors. But just a bunch of bathrooms being used until they are Out of Order is also amusing.

What I'm pondering is my solo entry, Unstable: The Horse Story, and what the mechanics will be. What I have right now is a wild ragdoll physics simulation in my mind of a herd of horses bursting forth from a barn. Beyond the comedic, I'm still tying these threads together.
