Ludum Dare 49 October 1–4, 2021

Came up with my idea!

Except after writing it out I found out it already existed... Almost the same name as well

So I'll just have to make it better then the one that exists already! and give it a different name.

Let's Do This!

Just woke up, ready to start!

First Jam in over 4 years!

So I'm old (ancient almost!) 38 yo dude :D I thought I didn't jam since my daughter was born early 2017, but I digged around to find that my last jam was actually LD39, which was August 2017, half a year after her birth :) There I've spent a whooping 5 hours on my submission! :D https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/space-squats-vr

So now I'm back! Recently I'm into retro pixels FPS games and I wanted to go that route for this Ludum. After knowing the theme, an "I always wanted to try this" thing popped into my mind - an indie Sci-Fi short I watched on DUST. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c53fGdK84rc I'm sure you'll be able to find my comment down there saying how I'd like to turn that concept into a game ;)

Now since animating humans might be a bit too much for a one-busy-with-real-life-game-developer-dude, I'll be going with the floating-orb-robot-thingy from the "Voodoo in my blood" music video. voodoo.gif So the concept is: you're this small robot with an unstable power source, you'll explode in 60 seconds. When you do, time goes back and you restart alongside your previous incarnation (as a different bot maybe?) The more I thought about instability the more ideas popped into my mind: like you cannot bump into other bots or you'll both explode. Having force-fields that destabilize your power source even more, reducing your time etc. So you carefully navigate this laboratory setting working together with your previous incarnations to progress the game and use you instability in some unique ways to solve puzzles and progress.

It's gonna be fun fun fun! Let the Jamming commence!

All right, I'm in

And I have an interesting idea about a unstable government.

Unstable Alliance, Night 1

Well, I've managed to release what I'm calling the 'System Test' for Unstable Alliance.

It's a partially completed interactive game on https://www.unstablealliance.com.

More to come tomorrow.

Think I have a concept.

Going with a dual meaning. 1. The protagonist is using highly destructive weapons/abilities in a fragile environment (either ruins, floating island or a combination of both.) which forces you to move through the space quickly. 2. The character is also unstable, with some sort of "berserk" mechanic that would cause even more destruction.

Maybe, maybe not

Testing out an idea fitting this theme, we will see if there will be enough time to finish and post.

I'm in!

I'm awake, and ready to go! I'll be streaming over at https://www.twitch.tv/ildfuglen in an hour (10 AM BST)

Hazmat situation

It's been 10 hours. I'm not very far along, but I had a little idea I'm running with. A puzzle platformer where you mix chemicals to enhance your movement, but if you mix up something unstable you'll probably regret it. It looks a lot like my last LD entry, because I've pretty much set up the sprites the exact same way  , it's a totally different game so whatever lol

BTW, I've just release a big milestone update for my Ludum Dare 48 entry Below The Ocean

-Below The Ocean- Chapter 4: The Soldier's Spade (Coming soon to Steam!)

Starting now...

Well, I sleep well longer than expected. Sigh

~10Hours already gone. But at least I have a great(Hopefully) concept in my mind that I think I can develop. Even tho I have to give up the idea of the Compo as it won't be an easy concept to realize.

Also, I don't wanna fawked up the design... I actually made a fast fast sketch while eating::

Probably going to change by a lot:: Also... strange color palette made thanks to Procreate features

Starting now

In Britain, so missed the first few hours, as I was snoozing. Woke at 7, went for a run, trying to think of some ideas. Got these two:

1) (unstable emotions) you're new in a village, and have a mission: go and buy the newspaper. You talk to the other villages on the way to the newsagent. The conversations can all end badly, as it's a town of loonies. Chat carefully, survive, and get your newspaper.

2) (unstable physics) I've never made a platformer, so this could be my first. You have to place the platforms, then traverse tham to get to a destination. There can be many levels of this. Stretch-goal: the structures also can't take a lot of weight (like the bridges in Poly Bridge.

Right! Let me go make a coffee, come back, flip a coin, and get started!

Day 0 progress

Going to literally make a physics-based tower construction simulator. After about 6 hours of work, the basic game mechanics seem to work.

I am very bad at art, so it is completely assembled from various free assets. Not sure if I can replace them with something of my own.
