Ludum Dare 49 October 1–4, 2021

Let's do this

After a long pause, I'll just join this one for fun and see if I can still make a game. Probably not going to be anything very innovative.

Tools I'm probably going to use:

  • Engine: Godot
  • Graphics: GIMP, Krita
  • Sound: jfxr, LMMS, FLStudio

I have an idea (and a vague plan)

I had to sleep on it but I think I've come up with something. It will be bear-based because bears are awesome.

4 hours of progress: basic mechanic done

The physics engine is cooperative once again. Next to do is actually losing (in a spectacular way) when the bar is full, as well as enemies that shoot kinetic bullets.

Awkward robot friend

We're in for the 23rd time in a row! This time, a little robot good boy :robot: will have to prove themselves in an obstacle course towards a goal :checkered_flag:

One button to control each leg.

But first it is time for a break: 001_Teatime.png

Our idea:

We started two hours ago, after a long brainstorm session this is a good representation of our idea:

Keep it simple!

As a hobby programmer I don't spend a lot of time programming. That means I will usually need a lot of time looking up references and tutorials. And with time pressure that can waste a lot of my time. Therefore I need to remind myself a lot to keep it simple and try not to expand the scope beyond my capabilities. :clock2:

I feel good working with an idea that is both simple in theory and also potentially quite fun! :v:

Now back to work!

Oh no

We hate Unity, so we are using Unity ¯_(ツ)ld49/em01.PNG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXLicO0CRvk

Finally have an idea

Premise of my game is that you're on flat earth and you have to build a world without your civilisation falling off the edge

Spent 90 minutes coming up with an idea lol then like an hour and a half prototyping, time to make a game

Creating Unstable platforms

I thought it would be fun to make a little puzzle-platformer where you can make a limited number of disappearing blocks to make your way through the levels. Here is what I have so far.

Searching for artists

Good morning everyone!

We just started working again on our game but could still use some artists!

We are a team of 4; 3 developers and 1 audio composer! Interested in checking our previous work? You can find it here: https://basicmilky.itch.io/

Help me :(

I want to make a cute 3rd person game like zelda but I don't have a good idea. I thought about maybe making a tower-like game where the gameplay causes the tower to begin to collapse, bringing you down to lower levels. It's a start but I can't really think of a concrete idea... :c

Our OGK games team started its work in Ludum Dare

Hey everyone our team is back again, we were satisfaed on last jam with our lost poem game! this time we are super motivated and better prepared!) we hope you will follow for updates and enjoy our game) Wish you all good luck and motivation! photoem2021-10-02/em12-05-29.jpg кот.png

TBD

I went with having a alchemy shop where you need to produce stable potions for your customers. If they are not stable, who knows what will happen?

Any tips for a catchy name? Screenshot 2021-10-02 113029.png

Great morning!

Starting off strong with coffee and music production! :)

Trying to write my GDD

I'm trying to write my GDD and my text editor just got a little unstable.

Huuuummmm, it just gave me some ideas!

Unstable bat/racket

swappin.gif

Finally got in the 'core' mechanic! Whenever your bat/racket makes contact with the soda can (being used as a ball here) it ends up being a totally different thing somewhere on the gradient between 'bat' and 'racket.'

Each variant has its own 'batting' and 'racketing' ranges (see the circles with 'B' and 'R'.) Some variants can do both, and some are specialized to do just one thing.

Batting the soda can makes it fly straight and predictably. Racketing the soda can causes it to bounce around, which can be good to trip up your opponent. But, if the can lands on one of the 'X'-marked penalty zones, you may lose some points.
