Progress on base game loop

My base game loop is mostly done. It's now time to polish some features (losing conditions, wining screen), add some more features (leaderboard) and replace all the placeholders, especially the pile of objects missing from the character.

End of Day One

No weather effects, but I'm pretty happy with what you can do. Buildings can be placed and moved, new ones can be added, and people can be seen moving in and out of them.

At this rate, I may end up submitting this as a jam because other events have gotten in the way.

Uploaded a build

Before going to sleep I'v uploaded a web build. Very much WIP and misses a lot of info.

Some progress!

Gave up on using my own custom made engine and moved back to BGE. Now I'll have to rush to finish the game!

Making progress on the games main mechanics (day 1 archievements)

So you will have to destroy all blocks in a level to progress to the next one. The blocks act differently according to their colour:

green: standard

yellow: cant be bounced on but has to be destroyed/collected

red: bounces the player very far

orange: standard but tiny and hard to land on

blue: switches the gravity

the rules are pretty simple but it gets hard fast!

I should probably focus on catching the many physics bugs - but adding new colours in is way more fun (still need a cool concept for pink/purple). tomorrow is scheduled for audio and particles.

Good night!

I am ready to fight God... OR BECOME HIM!!

I am animating since 9 pm, it's 2 am now.

I may or may not have enough caffeine in my body to be able to lift a mountain and I might have been listening to hype songs till now... But afterall I'm feeling able to face EVERYTHIIIIING right now!!

I FEEL INVINCIBLE!!

Hope your Jam is going on great and I hope you're all having fun and enjoying this competition!!

Have a great Jam! Stay hydrated, take small breaks, have fun and stay safe!!

Progress report

I currently have a player who moves, a camera that can be rotated (with the mouse or a controller's joystick), a button to instantly rotate the camera to the player's back, weapons that can be picked up and swung around, zombies that pursue the player if he gets close enough and die (with ragdoll physics) when hit enough times.

Missing features: make weapons breakable, give zombies an attack that can kill the player, introduce the rage mechanic (the "unstable" part of this game), give weapons a random critical hit chance (chance varies depending on rage level), have multiple levels that end when all zombies are dead. And add sound and music. And blood effects when hitting zombies.

Summary of the game, plus gameplay footage!

The game is called... drum roll please... Werlds.

The premise? There's 5 different Werlds where you must navigate through the obstacles to each one of the edges of the screen. The Werlds you visit are based off of your actions. Once you reach the end of Werld 5, you are taken to the second Layer, in which things start to become more chaotic, glitchy, and unstable. There are three Layers total. It sounds confusing but it all makes sense once you play.

And here is the gameplay I promised earlier.

Currently Layers 1 and 2 are finished. I'll get to work on Layer 3 when I come back from dinner.

Also, yes, the backgrounds are from Windows Media Player. XD

Meet our hero - the one and only Psycho Beaver

bobr1.png

Meet our hero - the one and only Psycho Beaver (roll credits)! Well, he isn't really a living creature but rather a mechanised creature... He just wants to get to the top of the ocean -- but his way is full of strange creatures, which aren't really benevolent. Whatsmore, he's mechanism is getting more and more unstable, which affects his movement as well as his shooting ability. The more unstable he gets, the harder the game will be...

There is one, easy way to boost your stability, though. Magic mushrooms. If you eat one, you get more stable. Of course for a while. And eating every mushroom has it's own extra effect too. And, perhaps, a cost!

Stay tuned for "Psycho Beaver" - the trippiest game on Ludum Dare 49!

Little past halfway

Are we halfway done yet though?

Probably not :grimacing:

Sorta got an ollie going

Starting over :(

My approach for a rhythm game in godot was thwarted by godot's lack of good timing stuff. It works fine running natively but doesn't work in the browser. Oh well, live and learn. For now, it's back to the drawing board :/
