Ludum Dare 55 April 13–16, 2024

Aaaand we're done

First time jammin', figured I'd join to see what all the hype was about. Initially I wanted to opt for a 3-day run, but mid-flight began squeezing myself into the compo. It went... alright. Actually, it's just like work, but there's no project-juggling mid-flight and no teamwork shenanigans.

Being myself, I once again made renpy do what it's not supposed to do.

I also did this all on record, so I'll cobble together a funny timelapse once the fog clears.

Go play Teh Dank Sorceress and have some wacky fun.

Me I'll go take a loooooong nap. Peace <3

The only update you need

We have a huge progress so far. TBH we have a huge problems as well... Знімок екрана 2024-04-15 020112.png

Woohoo, done Go play Hellbinder!

cover-art.png Hellbinder is live! I can't wait to hear what you think of it, and I can't wait to play all of your games!

There's a lot still missing, I mean, it's a MetroidVania with one upgrade, but still - it is a MetroidVania, with an upgrade!

Now to bed...

Summon to Kill the Skeletons

First participation in Ludum Dare ever! For me and @djow

Summon to Kill the Skeletons is a tower defense-like game where you need to hit your summon words in the keyboard for summoning the golems that will kill the skeletons that are coming! Be fast and kill them before they reach you! We have used some assets online cause animation and sprites are hard for programmers like us but some like the background and the summoner Girl "Morgana" we actually made by hand. We also used some AI for doing the Music and grab some ideas.Unity_opFMko3iDe.png

Deferal...

It's hard to admit defeat, so instead I'm going to admit deferral,

Did I say I was going in for the ultra hard 48hr version? No no no, I'm going for the 72hour version instead.

That was the plan all along and has nothing to do with the fact that I can't get past this bug at all

yup. that's it. That's the post.

Picture to show where I got to on Day 2 (not that I'm anywhere near done for the night) Screenshot 2024-04-15 at 00.23.18.pngScreenshot 2024-04-15 at 00.23.27.png

꒰ ˶¬ ༝ ¬˶꒱

꒰ ˶¬ ༝ ¬˶꒱ ran out of time & submitted as "unfinished" ♡

Just finished and published my Compo submission - GATEWATCH

This was my second ever game jam, and first compo participation. This was a lot of fun! Sacrificing my sleep and committing everything to a game for 48 hours. I think I ended up working on this game for about 35 hours. Day one I was streaming for 31 hours lol. But come check it out!

End of Day 2

Day two is over! And so is the gameplay!

In addition to ultimatum summoning, there are also speed perks for friendly weirdos.

Tomorrow I'll finish the interface, some sounds and design the page here on itch.io.

Skelly-Tons is complete

Quite proud of this little guy, give it a go if you fancy skelly-tons.png

Well, it is... something

As I've mentioned in my last post - heading into the second day - it was clear I couldn't even vaguely bring my envisoned core gameplay loop to life.

However, it is up, it is "working", it is right here.

Capture2.PNG

My main takeaways of my very first LD compo; hope this can serve as future reference: - Spill first, clean up later. - I am old, I need sleep (heading into my 30s is rougher than I had thought). - Put fun above all. - It's time to either buy a new PC or switch game engine (thanks for nothing, Unity). - Every single person taking part in this challenge should be immensly proud of themselves - no matter how big or small their result may feel (this includes you, reading this, right now!)

And with this, I'm signing off. See you on the other side.

Happy LD to you ... and to all a good night! (CEST crowd, anyone?)

The End

wrongbook ldthumb.png

So this is it! My game is finished!

It's been a crazy weekend but I'm really happy with what I've put together. After eight LDs in a row (and 19 total), this'll most likely be my last Ludum Dare for a while as I'm going to become a dad in about a month and a half, and I doubt I will have the time after that.

In a few weeks I'll see about making a proper retrospective post for The Wrong Book, but for now, I'm happy to have it out there. Enjoy!

And I'm done

Wow! I didn't think I'd make it. I only had a few hours each day this time, and I was using Godot for the first time. I'm amazed I got anything done. I have to say Godot was a dream to work with. I'll definitely be using it again. I may even switch over completely. Anyway my game is called A Heavy Crown. Check it out when you get a chance. I'm off to bed. Good luck to all those going down to the wire. :8ball:

Fellow first-timer here ^-^

After a long, brain-melting weekend designing and implementing (and submitting!) my first ever game jam entry, I'm feeling exhausted, relieved, and accomplished.

I was scrolling through some others' posts and the sense of togetherness through participation is really heartwarming.

I'm really excited to play your games! Well done to everyone who challenged themselves to build a game this weekend, whether you finished it or not, you're awesome! ❤️

Done

And with a whole hour to spare. Managed to escape most of the scope creep. The game is The Summoning Circle

End of Day 2

Another day has come to an end. The game has reached its completion stage. Most work is done. 3311.png 4422.png The world is close to destruction. Our shamans are ready to summon the forces of nature with their crazy dances and save us.
