Finished – Bacteria

4 hours 18 min…

Wow! I’ve made it with 4 hours left.

01

My first Ludum Dare ends with, Graphics, some Sounds and a nice Music snipped made with the great iNudge Tool. I’ve finished everything i wanted and learned a lot about 2D Arrays, which is great as i am no programmer at all! I will write a short Post-Mortem tomorrow.

Meanwhile you should visit my Entry and Play!

Yeah! Finished my game!

Managed to finish my game. I enjoyed 2 days of coding, it was great!

This is result of my work:

Now its time to open few beers and vote!

Good luck!

War of the Drones

And after the final touchs, this is the result:

drones-final

In an overcrowded world where human population grows wildly, Goverment has found a way to control it usin Drones. As a Drone AI, your mission is to find humans and kill them, flying over their insulting faces. But be careful, there are some human controlled artifacts that will chase you. Lucky you, they are slower simply because they are humans. And you can win Points, indeed!

You can find it in here ( http:manelvf.com/drones )

The code is pure Javascript and is on the web uncompressed. It uses the  amazing lightweight library Zepto.js and bits of code I found on the internets (nothing serious). I will add a Github link in the next days.

It was an amazingly amusing experience. I will repeat.

LD25: finish!

Okay, so i’ve reached a point where i’m quite happy to submit. It’s been a fun couple of days, and a big confidence booster for myself, knowing that I can still make games with my injuries!!!

If only I had more time, it turned out to be a lot shorter than I expected and there are no sound effects (apart form some dynamic music). Where I planned to have dozens of rooms, each containing all sorts of doors and switches, I ended up with ten rooms, and just a couple of doors and buttons.

Nevertheless, This is the first event-driven game i’ve ever made myself (i’ve always done short one-screen acrade games), and it feels amazing to do something like this from scratch in a completely unfamiliar engine.

HeroesFall – Incoming

So, we all remember old shoot em up game (Space Invaders and many others) ?

And with the current LD theme, most of competitors reinvented old game by switching player to IA and that basically what we’ve done.

As a first time, we choose something simple to create and we’ve learn so much from this experience (good and bad).

First of all, we cannot be prepared to everything and create a library for the occasion reveal to be a good idea (helping for repetitive tasks & others things).

And hopefully, we got great result on the first day, most of the game engine was created : really unexpected.

And second day : debug and improvement most of the day, in fact a simple collision bug make us loose time (4h…).

We got some feedback too, becoming the villain can be so disturbing when we recognize a type of game well known, so we had to create a tutorial for newcomers and thank to everyone for that. (That made me think, I got the same problem trying to play on some people compo. Hope people will think of game explanation).

Now we can finally concentrate on the game and maybe if we have the time today to make the first level really cool to play.

Our concept is simple (widely used on this contest : click to win !! [Hell yeah.]), but we want to make it more harder and less dependent on spam your mouse button, more strategic with bonus and other things. But the time is running.

So here’s a presentation of the game (used as a tuto) :

tuto

And if you want to give it a try : http://ld25.roboot.fr/. Don’t expect something enjoyable right know, but you can have an idea on what we are planning, just let your imagination do the trick.

Give us some feedback, it’s always a pleasure.

6th update: Finished!

Huzza and everything! It has been a tough journey, lots of sleep missed out, sitting still for almost two days, killed myself twice, but I made it. My entry can be downloaded from this link. I… Don’t know what to.. I’m sleepy..
I hope I don’t end up in a…

Game jam for the vat…

I ended up setting my goal too high, and I find that I have to concede that I won’t be able to finish in time for the main compo. I still have the intro and outro screens to go, backgrounds, particles and sound. Since work beckons tomorrow, it’s the jam for me… :-)

The idea for my game is an inverse Megaman of sorts; you are the evil emperor, and the league of Good is banging on your front door. You have to escape, but unfortunately, all of your defense mechanisms are standing between you and your spaceship. The LD entry will only have a few screens, but I like the concept enough that I hope I can make it into a modestly sized Metroidvania over the coming months.

Until tomorrow, have some screenshots:

Goodnight, and farewell to the compo for me.

Welp, it’s only 21:48 over here; but I am feeling specifically tired right now. So I am going to call it a night. I am quiet sad that I didn’t finish the comp; but I think I should be able to salvage the game, which I will post here when done. Even if it’s months later than the deadline.

How ever, I might finish the Jam. If I remember saying this when I wake up.

Sorry guys.

Next time I need to get some people to work with me, me thinks. Is that even within the rules?

Right On Schedule

Things have been going surprisingly well!

You can still tell I’m not an artist, but I’ve got the bare-minimum art done (I’d like some clouds, hills, or something else to fill that empty space in the background if there’s time), and the humans behave much more (though still not entirely) according to the laws of physics.  I’m satisfied with all the mechanics, so that just leaves sound/music (and writing instructions- I saved that for last in case there’s any last-minute mechanical changes) and I’m home free!  I might actually have time to add extra polish!  Probably not goats, though, but that’s okay.  Maybe for a post-compo version.

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think this has been my best LD performance yet.  This is already leagues better polish-wise than I managed with my LD 24 entry (which I took an extra 24 hours to do), I’m going to have art, sound, and MUSIC (a first for me), and I didn’t overscope!  I’m very happy with how this has been coming out.

To the finish line!

LOL run against the time!!!

I just know that LD25 it’s already running today at 19:58,so,well RUN AGAINS’T THE TIME!!!

I’ll try to make a game in less 4 hours,so,well,START RUN!

Finished!

Though I doubted it earlier, I am done with a few hours to spare.

It was a fun if somewhat stressful experience.

I have now basicaly finished the game and am testing on other machines, at this point i ask is it ok if i used a preemade paper texture and heavly minimpualted it and used it for overlays?

Or dose that put me in the jam?

If i enter the dare and its not sutible dose it go into the jam? or have  i then missed my chance?

I’d say that’s totally fine, I’m watching this closely, so just submit it and let us play! 😉

Next time I’m doing a platformer!

With four hours remaining, the base game is complete. I’m heading into my art and sound polish phase.

I’ve spent a lot of time working on an interface handler for Flashpunk, probably more than I should have. It’s quite robust and looks real purdy, but it isn’t strictly game related development. I suppose I now have some nice interface code I can port to my other Flashpunk projects now.

4 Hours Left

I’m really glad I did this LD. It’s really pushed me to learn about using particles with flashpunk – which I had never done before.

There are particles everywhere now!

4 hours left

ToDo List (pretty much all maybes):

  • Add particles
    • Dying troll
    • Links from flowers to suns
  • Fading in and out screens
  • Redo Sky
  • Add animated flower roots

Completed my 4th Ludum Dare Compo

Success!

I present you: THE PRINCESS IS MINE

yeah … that’s Grakkor and he really hates goats 😉

Finished my first Ludum Dare

2 days of hard work, a lot of fun, and a lot of time spent staring at a screen.

The game is called carnage and you play as a demon with a hatred for humanity.

The game is far from perfect, but I’m quite proud of myself for what I achieved in just 2 days. I didn’t know I had it in me.

Slow pace

I’ve come to halt on development. My game is done but can always use more polish. The trick is spending time to think about what I can polish in the last 3 hours. I spent the last few hours since I last posted getting some lunch, doing laundry and worked on some audio queues for the game ending.

I don’t know what I’m gonna do with my last few hours.

Eye on the real prize…

I could probably finish my game today. I could. All I need to add are a couple of graphical features.

But you know what? Your prize is your game. And I know that I can win a much nicer prize if I swap over to the jam and leave myself some time to do this properly.

Plus, that way I can use some lovely sound effects that somebody else made for my game 😀

My only regret is I won’t get to compare my game to my friend’s entries based off LD scores… Ah well!
