It’s a game! (with lasers and explosions)

and minimalistic

So futuristic!

It’s a very incomplete game, but it moves and ithas explosions and lasers.

You can play the unity web player version here:

http://bit.ly/SquareWars

Instructions (no help on the screen yet)
1. Place your factories: left click on the area you’re allowed to place them (overlapping not fixed yet).
2. The game starts after you place your 10 factories.
3. click on your factories to switch production. From red to blue, from blue to green, from green to yellow, and back to red (This is the “minimalism” part, along with the squares everywhere).
Notes: There is no winning yet, and there is no real unit balance yet.

Almost done…

The world is in your hand

Game screen shot

Pretty much done with the gameplay, so I’ve got some time to work on the music!

Anyone knows what is the procedure to upload the source code? If all the source is embedded in the timeline of the Flash movie, can I just upload the FLA?

Update

A level select with saving/loading of completed levels. Also some updated game-play – I’m getting ready to start adding unique units and churning out levels.

First Screenshot – Against The Current

After about 5 hours total working on this game, I finally feel like I’m on the right path, and it feels wonderful! This is gonna be the first game I’ve ever actually finished, especially as it is my own idea and not a port.
Here’s the first screenshot-

game screenshot

As you can see, graphics-wise, this game is going to be full of programmer’s art. I did use my animation utility class for the first time, and I’m glad to report it works just as intended.
So, the game. When I read what the theme is, I was a bit upset. It’s a cool theme, but not if you’re a first-timer and all of your games are inherently minimalistic. I decided to express the theme purely gameplay-wise; specifically, through player input. There’s only one button to press, and you’re supposed to swim against the current to get to the exit by timing your presses. I then incrementally introduce more game mechanics, such as triggers that change your direction, spikes, and more! So that’s what I’m setting out to do now, and I may actually finish this for the compo!

I’m really enjoying this so far! Good luck to everyone!

Progress!

screenshot

Yay, making progress!

I’m doing a pretty standard plattformer and I’ve got most of the game mechanics done now so I guess all that’s left to do is maknig the game fun to play ;).

Tutorial

So, now I have something that at least can be played. Classic tutorials are boring, so here some billboards.

Milestone 4

http://ludum.tarshish.us/ld26/

After a few tweaks and coding in circles for a little bit, I decided to call it a night and sleep. Now that it’s too early and I’m awake, I’m making progress again. I’ve got the start of the interface up and running and am ready to start making it usable.

 1. Get a repo, dev site and fission_engine setup
 2. Brainstorm
 3. Mock up on paper and excel
 4. Draw main interface view
 5. Start the game data interface
 6. Show the game data on the interface
 7. Get a publishable version up
 8. Hookup input
 9. Add weapons and armor
 10. Make weapon and armor selectable
 11. Add turns
 12. Add enemies
 13. Make winable
 14. Polish

Almost Nothing – Complete!

Way ahead of schedule, too! I plan on using some of the remaining time to add more levels and maybe some polish, but I’m very satisfied with this small <30 minute action-puzzle game.

Minimalism is very defined in this game through the control scheme, graphics, and interface.

Pretty awesome game, <3.

By the way, I’m In

I have been really, really looking forward to this LD, but busy as hell and not completely ready for it. I’ll be using Unity, Paint.net, maybe Blender and others.

This theme is proving extremely difficult for me. All of my games are pretty minimalistic so the theme may as well be “Game in 48 (or 72) hours” >:(. And yes, I know it’s gauche to complain about the theme but few people will even read this and it makes me feel a little better. 😛

I’m scrapping my first attempt, a “minimal” Ocarina of Time clone (really, what was I thinking?).

The thing I hate most about this theme is that in my head, all of my games start looking a bit like this:

minimal taters

(Made with Unity about 15 minutes after reading the theme, but decidedly not interactive)

Well, whatever. I’ll figure something out. I’m in :)

Graphics for each rates :

I’m not sure for texts, colors, shape… If I can save some time, I’d like to remake it.
Unless someone can tell me that it’s good enough.

A healthy english breakfast

Obligatory foodshot

A healthy breakfast! Had about six hours of sleep after stopping around 3.30 AM yesterday. Took about half an hour to wind down from the activities and talk through the day with Joror about his advancement he had made that day. He had a rough time around dinner yesterday, but he adapted and overcame!

I´m doing well so far, slightly behind on schedule. I woke up with the solution though, I was making things much too difficult for myself! I am going to make a schedule to make sure I keep it, but so far I have the following activities for today:

 • Finish up event postprocessing
 • Writing scenes! Write write write!
 • Shoot pictures of eyes
 • Shoot pictures of locations
 • Figure out which characters there are, anyway
 • Define items
 • Write the introduction
 • Write the endings
 • Music + SFX (kinda overlooked this. Didn’t really think this through. I might hum something ^^;)

Good luck on the second day everyone! Kick some ass and make something that’s at least playable!

Gameplay!

The colourful circle is the player

The colourful circle is the player

Aw yeah, I’ve got my main mechanic working! Now I’m going to flesh out the gameplay some more, add some extra enemies and waves. After that, perhaps some sounds?

I’m chugging along, and with 16 hours to go, I think i’m going to have to submit my game missing a few features due to time(Sound is the one thing I havent even begun working on.) Here’s a Video as usual of the basics and Pictures of the tile sheets and such after the break:

Less – a sentimental point-and-click puzzle game

Hi guys, Tom here. I’m working with Brice on our Jam entry, Less, a sentimental point-and-click puzzle game. Brice is working on the code and music, and I’ll be doing the graphics and writing. I’m really new to (non-pixel) graphics and game writing, and it’s Brice’s first time working on music, so this has been quite an interesting experience for both of us so far!

In this game, the protagonist reminisces about his past while removing objects from his room. Each object induces nostalgia in the protagonist, but with a twist: you can choose which item relates to which memory! The ending you get will depend on which objects you linked to each memory. Remember that time you gave your wife flowers? Perhaps you’ll have a great future with her. Or do you remember the time you gave her a trash can instead? Maybe she was offended by that…

Keep an eye open for our game when we submit it on Monday! We’re really looking forward to playing your games!

It’s done!

While I was about to add a lot of features, I remembered the theme… So I focused more on the difficulty curve and the demo page aspect.

I hope you’ll like playing the final version.

Total amount of work is about 10 hours… far less than the 48 allowed right? But during the Week End I managed to get the idea, to implement and submit the game + having fun with friends, my wife and my kids. Cool Week End!

The entry page is here:

When the gang awakes

After a good 6 hours of sleep, we are now slowly booting our brains and getting back into creative mode. I got music from our music guy, and we are very happy with how it turned out. Just some minor changes and the music is done.

After breakfast of egg and bacon, we sketched up a few more map ideas and assigned the remaining tasks. Due to real life we can not work together for more than a couple hours, so we need to get as much done in the remaining time.

Some of us will continue working this evening, and hopefully the result will be enjoyable :)

Throwing in the towel…

I have decided that i will nbot be continuing my first ludum dare. Both my ideas have failed, and to be honest the theme was against me. I have learnt a lot about the contest though, and i know that next time i need to spend more time thinking about ideas and brainstorming.

I hope that next time i will be able to enter! Good luck everyone!!

I’ll probably fail too. My first LD here. Had no tile map loading – Decided to make a platformer and now struggling to finish a map loading engine.

I have added some visual effects and now I’m creating levels. It’s the hardest part of making a game 😀Przechwycenie obrazu ekranu - 28.04.2013 - 11:38:43

Night 1 – Second (actually) Playable Demo

DEMO HOSTED HERE (Requires: Java)

Tomorrow we’ll make the fight a proper fight, add some graphical polish, and if we can get to it, the actual Minimalist Role-Playing part. In lieu of other exciting screenshots, here’s a few inspirations for the art style I’d like to emulate if I can get to it:

Also, shout-out to our stream-watchers for their company, their help looking up Mammen-Style art, and for sharing links to traditional Nordic Music!

A little out of it, but still workin’!

Just drank something called a “JAVA MONSTER” so I should be good for a while yet! Really happy with the game so far. Hope I can finish it enough for other to enjoy it too! Just tested on my iPad and it working great. Video soonish

After a little sleep I managed to fix a few things that were twisting my brain in knots the night before :)

Getting there…Grind your shapes!

So this is my first LD, and the theme was a big whack for me. I’m as far from minimalism as can be… So it took me a while to find something I’d like to do but I have and now having a blast with it!

It’s a 1-screen catch & train your geometrical shapes game. Can you be the champ?

Current working mechanics: movement, creature/shape fights, leveling, healing, capturing, tips windows…

I hope somebody will enjoy it, I’m sure having fun making it. Gameplay is not fully in yet but here’s a screenshot of temp art in the meanwhile (you play the white box atm)

Day 2. Tension.

Doing my favorite style of LD, in which I don’t work the whole time, and don’t get something super polished, but it still fulfills my original plan, and is somewhat good to play. I managed to get all of the interesting bits in on the first day, even though I don’t have a full game loop done. Normally I have the game loop in by this point, but none of the interesting bits. Think I am going the right way today. Also I have the audio in, so that is nice. Today am going to get all of the spawning and wave stuff working, then maybe stick the game frame in real quick. Should go alright I think 😀

Tension1

What you aren’t hearing here is that all the bullet shooting from the boss is audio sync’d and creating the soundtrack.

When I first saw that I thought the bullets were pushing the circles around while bouncing off of them, and the player had to avoid the reflected/deflected bullets. Interesting idea that…

Title: Controlled Diet

So I changed the title and start liking the game. It is somewhat relevant to the theme, although I’m still working on the basic mechanics. Now, what can I do for adding enemies to this?

Playable demo is here.

Level design

Been working on level design this morning, I have the 6 first levels (the tutorial levels) done…

I’m still getting the grips with the game mechanics, trying to figure out what’s hard and what’s easy to do, what kind of difficulties I expect players to have, etc…

My wife’s been beta-testing the levels for me, and so far the game looks fun (I lack objectivity on it, since I’ve played too much already)…

screen09

Going to add a mini-explosion to when we lose a particle… there’s little feedback at the moment on it…

I’ve also been thinking about level-done conditions (more than 50% particles saved? More than 75%?), when to trigger it (if I trigger as soon as the condition is reached, there’s no space for “bonus points”, but if not I might risk being stuck if there’s a forgotten particle somewhere), and the retry system (infinite retries? Limited? If infinite, scoring makes little sense, unless I reduce the score based on the amount of retries on a specific level)…

And there’s also the business with the name of the game… no idea on what to call it! Disappointed smile

Fire! Fire makes everything more fun.

Progress and demo

So I started out making a 1st person escape the room type game, which was somewhat an ode to minimalist interior design.

Problem was that it didn’t inspire me at all, and I wasn’t getting on with making puzzles for it.

So late last night I switched to a different plan. There’s an overcomplicated structure, and you have to make it more minimalist.

You can find a (web) player demo of one level over on my site

Last tile placed!

I’ve finished all the levels but the last one. And I still have a long way to go! I need to add graphics, music, menu/dialogue scenes, a tutorial, animation, etc, etc, etc…

By this time you shouldn’t be able to jump

Textures ahoy

Starting to get some textures done. :-)

ld26_pic2

Given my amazing art skills, I’m not sure they really help the game but at least it’s a little bit more obvious what’s going on!

Player still looks like a wooden box but that’s mainly because I haven’t worked out what he/she should look like (last time I entered LD I made “the adventures of box man”, guess this is the more literal version :-))

Alpha #3: You can shoot stuff + there’s an unbeatable midboss

Let’s milk that screenshot a 4th time, even though there’s actually a score counter and a lives counter now and has been since the previous alpha:

Now, we have a bit more colors. As you can see, map is now only a square with randomly placed obstacles. My friend is now implementing normal map generation and I’ll start coding battle system as soon as I finish this post.

Progress Report

So, I woke up about 3 hours ago and started working on the game about 2 hours ago. rogress has been slower than I expected but I’m still getting work done. I should have a playable build of the game very soon. I’m really excited how this idea is shaping up, I’m having a lot of fun working on it

Sunday Mornin Music

Spent about an hour or so getting the “music” correct… working out pretty well I think. Still not quite right… but very passable for 48 hours.

I believe the sound system is quite apparent in the following screenshot.

game is still missing the level of “fun” that I would like it to have… that will be my focus for the remainder of the day…

Plan B, and progress

I originally decided to go for an on-rails adventure platformer. I spent all day on it yesterday and made very little progress.

Got up this morning, ditched it, and moved onto plan B, which I put together very quickly, and have the first playable for already! This time, I’m going for a very simple top-down maze pickup game (like pac-man, but not).

Anyway, I’ve put it in my public dropbox so you can play it right now.

First screenie – Six Steps.

remember kids, minimalism means "shades of white".

Exceptionally early days…

So here’s my first screenshot of my first LD submission ever. Lessons learned so far:

 1. always, ALWAYS take part in the warm up weekend.
 2. 48 hour development is NOT ‘No time to design, HACK IT TO MAKE IT WORK’
 3. sleeping is a good use of time. (Got a heads up on this one from an LD vet, this ain’t uni any more, very grateful)
 4. caffeine crashes still hurt.
 5. Pixel art creation is still fun.

Good luck everyone, final push.

Project: Justin Bieber

I was going to go all out in this competition but I ended up playing Civilization 5 for most of the time. I did however manage to make something atleast. My original inspiration was Tron (the movie, the remake), but since I am so terrible at graphics, I skipped that end just went for cubes. I’ve written it all in JavaScript and only have a few more details to add before I proclaim myself satisfied, even though I could have done alot more if I would just stop procrastinating.

To do

– Add multiplayer (FB authentication, I’m lazy)
– Add sounds effects (dubstep!)

Pong (you are the ball)

Hi, a bit late, but I’m in :-)

I can’t resist making a micro-game about minimalism…

I can’t think about a more minimalist game than pong! I remember being a child and playing it on a second hand Magnavox… I think that was the first videogame I played, and nowadays this twisted version is going to be my last self-made videogame :-)

I’ll submit in a few hours, but here is an obvious screenshot and the feature list:

pong

– A different gameplay: You Control the ball against the 2 CPU opponents

– Nice time bending feature that speeds up and down to make it more interesting to play

– (Probably) nice retro sound

Really really happy with how this is going. Almost Done!

ineedtoliedown2

ineedtoliedown_title

I’m really really happy with how this turned out. I’m almost done. I just need to tweak a few more things like minor sounds and add a couple more frames of animation.

Since the last post, I changed the symbols (like the gold circles / pink triangles) and made everything have more impact. I also added in some more sounds.

The game conveys exactly what I want to convey. So I’ll send it around for people to test and get some final feedback, and then I think I’m pretty much done!

excited to play it! congrats on doing something personal too, I hope I will be able to pull that off at some point.

Ablaze Mk. IV

Now, there is a source for the shiny plume! Rocket ahoy! etc…

Still no damage simulation. Which is a shame, since that’s sort of the core gameplay mechanic.

Also, the passenger has yet to be implemented. Also problematic, as the passenger is core to Ablaze’s implementation of minimalism.

Ah well …. look at the shiny rocket plume! Who needs gameplay, when you could have a giant rocket?

Some setbacks

Ok, the game is coming nicely, but my friend couldn’t participate, so i’m solo. And today my Wife’s sister is throwing a birthday party. So this just give me 7 hours of work. I tried to stay awake overnight yesterday, but my brain was starting to melting, and i was coding, i feared mess up everything. So i had a good night of sleep… and now i have so little time. Propably, i will try the Jam, but i can’t do nothing at work on monday. So maybe, this time for real, i will stay overnight.

And the game… oh the game… I enjoying it, but there is so much to be done. I alredy finish the layout of level 1, 95% of level 2 and nothing of level 3. I started the enemy AI yesterday, but did just one, and just the sprite of the first enemy is ready. Add music and sounds, the inventory system and the bosses to this equation… it seems i’m in trouble. Time to cut things up! Here a screen of the first level:

Second Day

Finished!

16 hours of work, and my entry is as complete as it will ever be. I present Keep It Simple, a top-down shooter in which upgrades can be applied freely, but at the cost of your score multiplier. I’ve added leaderboard support, which was surprisingly easy, and there are also potatoes to be found.

Why I might not be able to finish my game.

Well, just an update for my project.

I realized I might be able to finish it unless i stay up late today(competition ends at 10am for me). Why ?

1) Using a personal code base that is buggy. I spent quite a bit of time trying to fix some minor bugs here and there.

2) Trying to make my code too neat.

3) Having a large set of features. I know I need to cut them , but most of them are core to the game =/.

4) Writing this post.

If things goes smoothing, then I might be able to finish.

I can’t live with bad code =(. I get very irritated by it =/

So we are going to finish our jam entry today

I didn’t expact minimalism to be a theme, I did not expect to find something for this theme, but here it is:

That’s right, a minimalist apocaliptic game, where the levels are supposed to be short and hard, and sometimes with crazy gravity because why not. However everything is almost done (except a few sprites). I hope it would be good 😀

a day and 15 hours left and I’m in

Well… I’m in kind of late.. I love how everyone else is halfway through and i don’t even have an idea yet, but my friend and I are entering as of now! I kind of have minimal (haha I made a pun) hopes for this one, but we’re going to be using Unity 3d, gimp and inkscape and maybe blender for graphics, and i have no idea what we’re going to use for music…. well.. we’re starting now.

Ninja Cube: Nearly finished!

Came up with a name for it and finished the menu!

Screenshot4Screenshot5

The game’s feature-complete, fully functional and only needs some refining on certain things. Maybe I can get some sleep after all…

Update (Prancing Men)

I wasn’t able to get started until around 2 yesterday, and I spent most of that time thinking of an idea, but the basics are done, and I am ready for gameplay. I am planning on making a tower defense type game that rewards you for preserving ammo. At the moment though, it is just a lot of prancing men.

When a particle hits a wall, now we have a nice feedback… The way I’m building this is a bit inefficient, but this is not exactly a GPU intensive game… Smile

Anyway, I’m running some minutes behind schedule, but everything’s under control (I think)… now the though part: making the main menu and finding a name for the game… Since I don’t have a story (the game is abstract), it’s harder to figure out a name… Candidates are “BoomParticle!”, “Quarkxplosion!”, “TakeTheParticlesToTheExit!”.

Schedule:

Progress, i has it!

Gasoline Quest teaser

“The game “Gasoline Quest” will blow you away! Its about jumping over cars with other cars and collecting gasoline! I’ve never played a better game in all my life!” /Not the programmer

After much work I am finally almost done with the coding!

Now i just need to work on the art :/

Progress 4

So the theme is minimalism, huh?

Let’s make a metroidvania!

Gordon Freeman, in the living flesh, or should I say, in the Hazmat suit. I took the liberty of reliving you of your weapons. Most of them WERE government owned. As for the suit Ahhh I think you’ve erned it. The border world, ZEN, is in our control; For the time bieng. Nasty piece of work you’ve managed up there. Which is why i’m here MR FREEMAN, my employers and I certaly agree that you have limitlessssss pontial. Just step into the portal and I’ll take THAT as a yes. Otherwise… Erm well um, I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning. Rather an anti-climax after what you’ve just servived! Its time too choose.

WELL done Mr.Freeman! I’ll see you up ahead!

First Version

text-adventure

I just released the first version of my game, a simple texte adventure game.

The engine aren’t finish yet, full of bug, and only compatible with Google Chrome by now. Sorry it’s my first project in javascript. I tried to finish it before the deadline.

The only useable command :

GO [DIRECTION]

LOOK

Milestone 5

http://ludum.tarshish.us/ld26/

Things are starting to work. I have armor and weapons (everyone gets everything) that you can select and are actually reflected in the game data and shown on the spreadsheet. Next up, actions and turns.

 1. Get a repo, dev site and fission_engine setup
 2. Brainstorm
 3. Mock up on paper and excel
 4. Draw main interface view
 5. Start the game data interface
 6. Show the game data on the interface
 7. Get a publishable version up
 8. Hookup input
 9. Add weapons and armor
 10. Make weapon and armor selectable
 11. Add actions
 12. Add turns
 13. Add enemies
 14. Make winable
 15. Polish

90% done

… now to the other 90%. Which are sounds, levels, menus and stuff. Have a demo: Demo

like the style and it reminds me of portal :)

² – Update #4

Base game mechanics are all in. Now let’s go for some level design. Except for test levels, I’ve never done that so let’s give it a try !

Capture du 2013-04-28 13:07:31

Time for lunch now, then i’ll have around 10 hours to finish the game (euro time + monday work won’t help)

Progress Report #2: Test demo!

One button platformer

More gimmicks implemented, faster performance, and a short sample level to play. Not to mention cross-compilation.

Speaking of cross compilation, here have a demo!

Mandala playable demo!

Hi

Mandala is now doing the things I want it to do. I can write text and Mandala turns that text into an adventure (one that disintegrates as you play it). Major problem is: the text writing part is still not nice. At first I was just populating a database by hand. Then came a seeds.rb file. The current iteration is a yaml file that gets loaded when I want to populate the db. Tomorrow morning I will wake up and write a script to parse marked up text into my yaml db format, and then I will be able to spend a good 4 hours making rooms.

Still though, I wanted to have something here tonight before sleep. It is now 4am, but we have a live and playable beta.

Please check out the beta, it would make me happy. Remember, you destroy it by looking at it (as as of yet there is no going back). Right now, if 60 people play it then the game will be completely destroyed. Most of the interesting stuff will be gone after 20 play-throughs. I will be super happy if it is completely gone by morning. In case you don’t intend to check anything out: here is a screeny screen shot!

Extremely minimal! But I am having a blast!

Moo

That’s a lot of steak.

The final day -15 hours remain-

The Ludum Dare middle age crisis has arrived again, and as I see it, I’m at a crossroads:

1) I could try finishing the game in Unity despite not knowing what the hell I’m doing most of the time.

2) There’s still time to recreate what I have in Flashpunk, with hand-crafted 2D environments and puzzles, hopefully with at least the same degree of ambience as with crude lo-fi 3D terrain.

3) If I go for option 1 and don’t make it, I think I’ll have to do the unthinkable and take the extra 24 hours to jam.

4) Failing all that, I think I’ll just write these blog posts for the rest of the LD, making snarky but borderline abusive and intrusively personal comments about you people.

5) I can use the packet sauce.

I can use the packet sauce.

I can use the packet sauce.

horrible looking screenshots !

so I’ve come the to realization that the only thing that makes my game kind of OK to look at is the particle effects, and because those don’t translate well in screenshots, I’m left with the problem that every single one of my screenshots looks absolutely terrible.

anyone have an idea for a workaround ?

(anyway, progress is smooth, I’ve implemented bombs and a few other things, I’m starting to make levels now)

Finished! I just submitted my LD26 game “Wandering Darkness”

I finished!

This LD has been amazing! What a whirlwind!

It started with being completely stuck for ideas, and then I stumbled across a concept while out for a walk. Just over 28 hours later, and my game is complete!

Submission entry / page is here

I’m attaching some screenshots to demonstrate the art style.

To get a feel for the game, you really need to play it. There are builds for Windows, Mac, Linux and Web. Hopefully that meets most peoples needs.

I’d appreciate any feedback, and of course, welcome any votes when the time comes!

Good luck to everyone still working hard on your games!

The most minimalistic boss slayer

Screenshot 8

Who do you think that cute yellow square is? IT’S A BOSS! An almighty last boss! And you have to fight him! But, as I told, you lose a thing every level. At the boss, you only have… a right button. Do you dare to defeat the last boss with only one button? YOU DO, of course!

I finished the boss, and it’s beatable by only going right, and now I have to do (in priority order):

 1. A tutorial
 2. A throwout notification
 3. A demo for you to play!
 4. A menu
 5. Cutscenes
 6. Music
 7. Graphics

(I might accidentally mix up 6 and 7. It’s not a big deal.)

Oh, I still need to come up with a name.

My stream

It’s pretty playable!

I’m not finished, but I’m pretty happy with where my game is at. I’d love beta feedback, so if you’re reading this, please give the game a play, then share feedback in the comments or on twitter (@gabehollombe).

BoogieWoogie (HTML5): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/917628/LudumDare/26/index.html

Now it’s time to polish up the game a bit more, I think. Maybe reward extra lives every ten points or something? I’ve still got some items on my Maybe-TODO list…

I had fun playing it man! Great job! :)

Doe #3

So, things are going really well. The game is fully playable, it was achieved 3 hours ago so it leaves me time to work on the graphics, music, sound everything.

I’m really happy in fact, even while I think that the link with the theme is really thin now. Minimalism really led me to this idea and this story but I’ll think players won’t see it. It doesn’t matter, I still get a game that I may expand later ! Here is a screen:

bd_ld26_03

It’s the very beginning of the game and there is a lot to discover beyond that !

See you later and once again a warm thumbs up to everyone working out there

Quitting! YAY!

Well, I got something ok out of this one, and it is a good idea, but I don’t really want to push myself to hard, I have enough videogames to make next week. Until next time.

where are the playtesters ?!

ok so everyone on IRC seems to be busy with their own game (understandably !) so hopefully there are a few people here who can playtest my game for me ?

here’s a link to one of the latest builds : http://smealum.net/ld_test8.zip; controls are explained in game. let me know what you think and if you have any ideas !

(also in case it’s not clear, the goal is for the player to stay as small as possible)

thanks for the feedback 😀

The game is on!

After some conflicts with the first idea we’ve started out fresh with a new idea & design. Now the fun begins!

Challenge Game Update 7# Too many enemies

So my original concept for my game was way too ambitious to complete before competitions end so I’ve decided to just make it a minimalist shooter. Turns out I enjoy doing this alot more but unfortunately I didn’t put a spawn cap on the amount of enemies yet.. so the result is:

screencap7

Streaming here: www.twitch.tv/jellycakes1

Well it starting to get more and more finished

I didn't know being a ape was a good idea

Title screen

So here’s a screen of the title screen. Silly name I got when I combined beat and escape but it will have to do.

Finish LD26 MineCrawl

The version 1.0 of MineCrawl is done…

For now, I’ve only done four levels… I need more inspiration.

Game: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1186255/Minicrawler/MiniCrawler.jar

Code: https://github.com/abraracurcix/MiniCrawler

Later i’ll make more levels… I hope.

PS: Require Java 7

Map generation + crazy culling done

We can now have big-ish map!

Still no actual gameplay except moving around the map and seeing where the three players spawn, but hey, we’re working on it – there’s still “plenty” of time for the jam!

Anyhoo, back to work!

Watch your food

These little critters want your “Food”. Luckily, you are bigger than they are…but there are lots of them and only one of you.

Fog: I can’t write, nor can I remember to post updates.

So here’s the gist of it.

Fog is a game where you find yourself in a world shrouded by a thick fog, and by connecting the magical nodes, you reveal the whole world.

We’ve made a lot of progress in 34 hours. It’s time to make a whole lot more. Even though we’re entering in the Jam, we’re unable to work much on Monday thanks to school, so expect our entry tonight!
