My first Ludum Dare – success!

Yeah, I’ve finally finished, approximately 90 minutes before deadline. I’m very happy because of at least three reasons:

1. I managed to submit a game!

2. I really like my own entry – even after spending last two days with it, it is still nice to play for me.

3. I had so much fun participating in Ludum Dare – surely come back for the next one.

You can see my entry, ‘Neverending Bricks’, here.

“Seventh World Problems” is done!

My game is done 1.5 hours before the deadline!

It’s a pretty basic jump-n-dodge platformer, but with a weird setting and environment.

Play it here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=7563! Please?

Bag it, tag it

sell it to the butcher at the store….

My LD26 Entry is called #.  It is a game about shooting squares.  Get it now while it’s still full of those tasty bugs I haven’t found yet…

Yeah it has been Finished

Hello World!

My first submission for a 48h Ludum Dare Compo has been finished… Here comes “Another Minimalistic War

It was created with GameMaker Studio. It was so much fun!

Done, but still things to do!

I submitted my entry last night, but there’s still a bunch of fun things to do:

  • Upload Timelapse made with Chronolapse
  • Create a website (I bought a domain for my game!), and update my personal site
  • Write a post-mortem

I might also update the Readme of my game to mention that you can use the F Keys to change the screen resolution.

You can see my entry, “i need to lie down” here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=3289

Update 3 (No Internet)

I officially finished my game about 5 hours ago, but had no internet connection.  Glad to be back before the dead line.  My tower defense game and my first Ludum Dare is complete!  Not too good on graphics, but I believe the gameplay makes up for it.  I give you Minimal Defense!

So close…

I think it’s unlikely I’ll finish… but I’ve finished almost everything… just need to make the AI work (maybe almost wasn’t the right word) and tune up everything.

Well… Here is a screenshot of my progress:

SO CLOSE

I’m finally finished (with my first Ludum Dare)

I definitely thought I would not get done several times in the past 48 hours. I came in unprepared, not willing nor able to stay up longer than 14 hours each day. Many troubles and errors interferred with my coding to the point of me wanting to give up. I cannot say it is pretty, but at least I entered a full game… to an extent. I wanted to give up right when the theme was minimalism. That was the one theme I did not want. It took me a good 3 hours to think of an idea, even though it was not very good. In the future, hopefully I will  be more informed, more experienced, better at logic, and process stuff faster.

I barely finished, with an hour and a half left.

It is finished

minimum_2013-04-28_14:51:27Something of a cross between a puzzler and a stealth game.

Inspiration came from the idea of a system that didn’t work well when too big. I borrowed a ideas from deck building games, then tried to emphasize the pain of not planning your hand well. Which in turn is impossible to do if you don’t keep your collection very minimal.

I even, despite Microsoft’s best efforts to thwart me, got a Windows build done.

Check it out:

Done!

Well I’m done. Here’s my entry along with a bit of a discussion around how things went: Mnmlst Mnk

I’m pretty happy with what I’ve come up with and there’s lots of room for tidying up and adding new features. I think the most valuable lesson I learned is that I need to interact with people in order to do my best work, trying to code on my own for extended periods of time just makes me feel down these days. So next time I’m either organising a meetup or finding a team.

Game is Done!

Finally, it’s done. Everything should be find, ‘cept for the music. I still don’t know how to fix that. Sounds are just too glitchy right now.  Hopefully it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Anyhoo, game is called Pixel Burst, it’s about shooting boring and dull people with your fun and colorful rectangles. Hope you enjoy! Very basic, arcade style. Try to beat your previous scores. Had much fun for my first Ludum Dare, now I wish to practice for the next!

A Fish Called Revenge – Finished, at last!

Participating in this Ludum Dare was one of the most challenging and fun experiences i had in a long time!

game_d

A few hours ago i wasn’t sure if i would really finish the game, and had to cut some “features” to be able to make it: music and some art.

Let me do a quick recap of rights and wrongs:

Rights:

  • Sleeping normally: in both nights i slept around 6 to 8 hours, this made a great difference in my productivity;
  • Art: i’m a programmer, and although the game’s art is low quality, for my first experience i think it went ok (kind of);
  • Art tools: I used and tested a lot of software, but to make the seamless tiles and the terrain, Pickle was a simple, yet powerful and user-friendly. Definitely gonna buy it!
  • Framework: i used HaxeFlixel, and it allowed me to prototype and test features ultra-quickly!
  • SFX: sfxr is the savior in this regard. It made a time-consuming and hard task in a very quick endeavor.

Wrongs:

  • Couldn’t put some music in the game. My initial plan was to create some very simple tracks: one for the level and one for the boss. Unfortunately i couldn’t find time to create them;
  • Animation: I think the underwater setting made this difficult. I tried to animate the swimming motion for the fish and lost some time. In the end i gave it up to be able to finish (also the squid would be insanely difficult to animate correctly);
  • Water overlay: this is the what i missed the most. The idea was to create a water tilemap and put it over the level. I couldn’t find the right mix of colors (some characters would be total black, or invisible), and the time was running, so i had to cut the feature.

Overall, i’m very happy with the result, and also very tired!

gone jammin

I’m now on track for the jam instead of the compo. Between real life obligations, and a very broken rule set, the “bored” game is taking shape slowly. But after a nap, I do plan to play though the night to flesh out a solid rule set.

So far, I have the main board, player and zombie pieces: “buildings”, “barriers”, and target all constructed.

board and target

And a program to generate random idle zombie movement.

z_movement

(And yes, I cheated and used GMS to do basic RNG.  I’m so out of date my C++ wasn’t cutting it.)

It’s basically a single HvZ scenario played out in a board game.  The test scenario I have settled on is “clear the courtyard”.

Once I have finalized rules, and a successful set of games completed, I’ll make my official submission along with an edited video explaining the game and showcasing the set played.

Fire Cutting it Close

With just an hour left I getting really worried I have 3 legitiment levels and it no time. Here is a demo

Quest Space completed

My first Ludum Dare entry ever. I had a different idea at first, but halfway through scrapped it and ended up going with a very bare-bones, on-rails RPG. Well, “RPG”. Minimal graphics, minimal interaction, minimal just about everything. Except effort. (Not sure if that comes through.)

Either way, here’s the link to my entry. Now, to go vote on everyone else’s entries…

Ludum Dare Compo Entry Complete

It was a challenging first competition.

My interpretation of the theme came as a miniature beast on the hunt for dinner. You play as a tiny hound in a deathmatch for dinner.

I did make the entry in Flash using the Flixel framework.  I suprised myself and managed to put some music in thanks to Famitracker. Sound effects thanks to BXFR. I made the art in Paint.net.

Please check out my entry http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=21673

I look forward to seeing the other entries. Good Job everyone!

Ludum lupus: done.

If they’re all on Dropbox, you can look on the Dropbox website for the shadow copies/backup service and see if you can restore an old version.

Sputtering

Approaching the last 24 hours in my first LD Jam, I’ve learned a few things:

1 – I underestimated the amount of work involved in writing something from-scratch with a 72hr timeframe.

2 – No matter how much you think you know something, there’s always more to learn, and better ways to do things.

3 – Anything worth doing right is worth putting the time into.

I doubt I’ll have anything resembling a ‘game’ 24hrs from now, though what I have written so far is turning into a foundation on which future projects can be built on.

This was my first attempt at anything resembling a game in many years, so I didn’t have any expectations beyond simply doing my best and seeing it through, which I will continue to do, likely far beyond the LD26 Jam deadline.

This won’t be my last stab at LD.

Logiciel Allan do it’s first ludum dare…

…And it was pretty fun , and we probably here for the next ludum dare and i personnaly prove myself that i can make a game Under 48 hours and have a funny game and fun with it.

Thanks for creating ludum dare !.

-LogicielAllan , see you later !

Aand it’s done.

so where is everybody huh weird

I really could eat you up!

Success! Something playable with achievable end state! No killer bugs (that I’m aware of)! Almost no slow-downs! Grab your Windows executable here! Entry page here!

I’ll upload today’s time lapse tomorrow, maybe make a gameplay trailer. This was really fun and I already have lots of ideas how to expand this concept from here.

OggOrbis is finished!

So this is the first LudumDare that I’ve participated in, and I have to say, I’m quite happy with the results.  My game accidentally ended up being more about the environment than the actual gameplay – although there is somewhat of a goal in the game – but I’m still really pleased with what I’ve been able to conjure up in the last two days. I’m also pretty pleased because this is the first game that I’ve actually completed.

Anyway here’s the game if you want to go check it out! (For performance reasons, I strongly recommend downloading it rather than playing in the browser)

Congrats on your first Ludum Dare! Very simple, I like it, the only thing was I felt like I had no control. The balls just shot out in every direction and if I’m lucky, one of them makes it in. Overall though it was fun being like “COME ON GO GO GO GO GO MAKE IT IN!”

Oh, Frell this. I’m done. (Also, Postmortem.)

Frustration in my title? Why yes. I got my game done in less than 12 hours on Saturday and then proceeded to spend all day yesterday completely unable to get it to compile into .exe format.

Muh-muh-muh-MY POTATO

Expectations

This was my second Ludum Dare. I went into LD25 in December with no ability to do graphics or sound and came up with a text-interface simulation game with which I was very, very happy. I went into LD26 confident that I could succeed, as I had done so before with no clue what I was really getting into, and with the ability to make graphics a thing that would happen. I also went in feeling like having the ability to do graphics wasn’t necessarily a good thing — I’d come up with something so unique last time because I’d had few options. Could I pull that off twice, or would having graphics at my disposal result in an inferior game?

Dat Theme

Minimalism?!

It didn’t seem like a bad theme… my objection to it and the reason I voted it down every time I saw it was because it was too close to a previous theme, Minimalist. I hadn’t at all thought about what I might do if this theme was chosen, and so I started out LD26 making my Twitch viewers watch me read up on Minimalism on Wikipedia. I came up with several ideas and discarded them all because they either weren’t unique enough or didn’t look like they’d be fun.

But the real issue I was having, the reason I had trouble with coming up with an idea, was that I know nothing of Minimalism. I didn’t have enough information floating around in my head to make it work. LD25’s theme, You are the Villain, jived with me quite well. I consider myself to be something of a connoisseur of fine villains; a good villain can make a story and a bad one can break it. Combined with my studies in Sociology and remembering a board game a friend of mine had told me about ages before, I quickly had an idea. This time, though, I struggled.

One idea that stuck in my head was that of a minimalist potato in the form of a simple brown oval with human eyes on it instead of a potato’s normal eyes (English-centric, I know; please forgive me, non-native speakers). Whatever game I did, that was something I wanted in it. Eventually I decided to make that potato the focal point of the game. I wanted the eyes to be interactive with the player somehow, and in the end I thought of, “Stick a needle in my eye,” from some children’s rhyme and this game was born.

It wrote itself for the most part, and with minimalism as the theme I didn’t have to spend too much time on art. I’d been all prepared to use my decent drawing skills that I only realized I had last weekend, but it wasn’t really necessary. The coding was fairly straightforward and went well. The game even told me how to make itself more fun… a bug turned out to make the game far more fun than I’d originally planned, so I went into the code and started shaping it around that idea on purpose.

In the end, I found myself with something playable and mildly amusing, but not spectacular. Indeed, I am happier with my game from LD25. I’m not unhappy with this game, though, and I’m pleased with the fact that making the game took me less than 12 hours, including spending two hours agonizing over what to make.

Time Zones and Twitch

I am in Japan. That means that LD26 started at 11:00 AM on Saturday for me. This has its advantages and disadvantages. The most notable disadvantage, I think, is that the competition carries on into Monday. This time, my work was not impacted as Monday is a federal holiday in Japan, but I learned in LD25 that I really should request LD Monday off. As advantages go, starting in the middle of the day means that I get two full sleep periods at normal times with a chance on that final morning to do any last minute stuff with a fresh mind. Even though that’s an advantage I haven’t needed for LD26, it’s still there and will continue to be as long as I have this job.

I streamed Saturday on Twitch, from right after I got dressed (people got to watch me make breakfast and stuff — testing the stream and getting pysched, wot wot) until I was done with programming for the day. This was fine, though when LD26 started, I found myself feeling pressured to make my whole thinking process available to the people watching my stream. I feel like that was stress I didn’t need with an unfamiliar topic as the theme and I am not sure if I will stream the start of LD again next time.

Building .EXE Files

I got Pyinstaller working for LD25. It will not work this time. I spent all day Sunday trying to get it to work, on Mac OSX and Windows 7, with no success. It will not import pyglet into the game no matter what I do on either OS. Py2app fared no better and didn’t tell me why it was having trouble, so I abandoned it pretty quickly.

This has been extremely frustrating, not the least because I know the game will be played less if it can only be played from source. At this point, however, it would be a waste of energy to keep caring.

Takeaways

  • Expect the unexpected.
  • Take your time figuring out the theme if you’re unfamiliar with it.
  • Consider not thinking about the theme while livestreaming.
  • Check your .exe builder programs with the libraries you intend to use during warmup weekend instead of assuming it will work smoothly.

Its been great spending time with you guys/gals this weekend doing my very First Ludum Dare! As always, there is the wish to do more but, time will not allow it. I am very excited to get feedback from everyone. Play and enjoy I know that’s what I will be doing with everyone else’s game. Thanks you Ludum Dare! Thanks Benn on the great Keynote!

Finally finished PolyShot in the nick of time with less than an hour to spare. The game is fairly simple but I’m hoping that the difficulty and presentation will make a decent impact. This is my second ludum dare entry! (the first one was pretty awful) so give it a go and WASD your way through the polygons.

Dehumanizer: 16×16 hardcore arcade platforming shooter

I did it!  Wasn’t sure if I was gonna make it since I flip-flopped and started 26 hours in, but I made it with time to spare.

Dehumanizer actually turned out really fun, it surpassed my expectations!  I’m also happy with the music I was able to make for it.  It even has  2-Player co-op so please try it out, vote on it, let me know what you think!

Tired of all the encumbering exploration and procedural generation roguelikes have to offer? Agoraphobic?

Trying not to spoil too much with this gif.

Finished. This is the second LD I’ve participated in, the first one I’ve finished, and the first game I’ve ever completed. Thanks, LD. It was super fun.

I was able to squeeze in a second tier of enemies and a way to win in the last 20 minutes. There are issues with balance and difficulty, but hopefully it’s not game-breaking. I didn’t have much time to test it. If I didn’t sleep in so long on the first day, it’d probably be much more balanced.

Some people are having issues with crashing. I’m pretty sure it’s because of them not having the XNA 4.0 redistributable, which really sucks. I don’t want to make a bunch of people have to install stuff. Maybe I’ll use something else next time so my game will work in a web browser.

Overall though, I’m pretty happy with it. Especially the audio. All the music/ambience/sound effects are random, which gives it a really funky and eerie tone.

All the feedback I’ve gotten has been along the lines of “I DON’T GET IT WHAT’S GOING ON OH GOD”. Pretty much exactly what I was going for. I made sure not to hold the player’s hand too much. There are a lot of little details you can figure out that really help you if you pay attention. I hope there’s a bit of fun somewhere in the game.

I’ve finished Ludum Dare and life is good

For a while it seemed like I wouldn’t be able to get anything finished this weekend, as I was busy all Saturday, but for some reason fate decided to smile upon me and now here I am with a finished game.

You can’t step out of my way so we must fight

sumo

YCSOOMWSWMF is a two player game about one dimensional sumo wrestlers who must push the other out of the way.

When I first saw the theme was minimalism, I almost immediately thought about making a one-dimensional game, although at the time I was thinking more along the lines of a dungeon crawler or shooter (which, I would have called “Corridor shooter”), but I realised that these ideas would end up being a lot of effort for not very fun game, which led to this.  I haven’t had a chance to do much play-testing (room mates don’t like being woken up late at night so that they can play against you in a game you made).

Unfortunately, due to obvious time constraints I didn’t get to polish the game much.  Over the next week I will probably improve the graphics (although I will definitely keep their one-dimensional nature), tweak gameplay and add sounds and music.

I’m surprised you’ve kept reading this far, the link’s up there!

-C.D Buckmaster

Fail… and learn.

There’s too much work between what I have right now and even something that could minimally be called a game.  I stopped updating fairly early on once I realized how much I was struggling– had to get rid of distractions.

I won’t finish in time for a Ludum Dare competition entry, but I fully intend to finish up a minimum playable game to submit as a jam entry.

SOLIX — What happens when the background color changes?

So, I posted my LD #26 entry, SOLIX.

aaaaaa

It looks like a normal top-view game, where you control a little shape. But everything changes with the way background colors interacts with you. What exactly changes? The easiest way to find out is… playing the game!

And also, for everybody that has participated this Ludum Dare, congratulations, you are awesome. Also, if you want me to rate your game, rate mine and I’ll rate yours as soon as possible.

Finished!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you:

Boogie Woogiemy first game ever.

It’s a combo Avoid/Collect style game (collect like-colored rectangles, avoid other colors).

It’s written in HTML5, so it should run right in your browser.

Please enjoy!  And feel free to check out the source on GitHub if you’d like to see the code.

Done!

I’m done. The Last Tower is a complete game. There’s four levels, a menu, an evolving enemy and upgrades. It’s feature complete. I even added a few sounds. I’m very happy with how far I got.

If I revisit this, I think the balance could use quite a bit more work, as well as the enemy’s picture generator. Also, I should add more frames to the bridge-breaking. Otherwise, I think I actually hit all the points I was aiming for.

Edit: Linked to the actual game. 😛

Finished; figured I’d post about it.

So yea he look I finished despite all that whiskey (very little whiskey was consumed in the creation of this product.)

Gotta say as my first LD I’m very proud that I finished in time. Also this is the first game I’ve finished in about 10 years; so that’s awesome. As for the game I’m less than happy with it. It’s a game, yes, just not a good one.
It does have a start and end (and a middle). 3 levels. Background music. Animation. A sound effect (yes one.) and a potato.
I did get to learn a lot in the process. Planning is one of those things I need to work on.

Here it is!

What I did get was a better understanding of all my tools and a desire to make something more.

So there’s my first (in a long long while) game. Enjoy it. I’m going to make something better!

-Xellinus

Vicious cutbacks

Didn’t get nearly as much implemented as I wanted to this go around. I probably should have stuck to a game type I’ve done before. I got some basic thematic type stuff in there which makes me happy though, and am learning some of the repeat type stuff I can try and streamline in the future (toggling mute for example. start off with the ability to reset the game so people can play again after they finish).

revert to jam

Hey :)

Sadly I wasn’t fast enough to complete my game for the compo.

I may have to revert finishing it tomorrow and submitting it to the jam instead.

Whew, just under the wire!

Here’s Minimo, a minimalist take on a familiar scene.

I had a great time making it, and explored a bunch of different ideas that I may end up pursuing further. This was my first Ludum Dare, and it definitely won’t be my last!

Finished! That was great!

This was my first Ludum dare, and it went great! I read a lot of posts on suggestions of how to go about making a submission, and they helped a lot. I picked a fairly small scope, got it playable early, and had time to get some decent sound and music in as well. I’ll do a full post-mortem sometime in the next couple days, but for now I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the experience!

Mondrian1

My game is a simple little arcade game where you try to create valuable minimalist artwork by trapping different colors on a canvas. I didn’t love the theme at first, but this turned out to be really fun to make. I can’t wait to see what everyone else came up with!

So, this is my first time that I created and finished a game by myself ^^. I usually make game with team especially I don’t have programming experience very much.

It really took my time despite it is just a 60 seconds game and I just using Construct 2 several hours ago. It was confusing too for finding which host should I use until I remembered clay.io

I was using Construct 2 from Scierra to make the game. The reason is because it needs less programming especially I am not a programmer but an artist.

So, my game is about an insect which about to die in 60 seconds. Player needs to click as many as he/she can so it will have good memory playing with its lamp.

So, this is my game:

[stextbox id=”alert” caption=”Title Screen”]titlescreen - Copy[/stextbox]

[stextbox id=”alert” caption=”Gameplay”]gameplay[/stextbox]

For the theme relation, I used simple block and color to make the graphics. I interpreted it as a simple shape and color.

Not only that, I also removed any figure elements like background image so it will focus what it needs to be explained.

That’s all. You can play the game here:

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=20503

Edit:

Oh, I thought it was using tag and post to submit entry xD.
Well, I guess I miss the Compo xD.
But I still can join the jam :D.

OH MY GOD THERE ARE SO MANY GAMES

So far(1260 games), if I give each game 60 seconds, it will take 21 hours to play every game.

Thats 60 seconds per game mind you.

That’s over 60,000 hours of man labor developing games in a single weekend!

Buggers!

Done, and this time I got in quite a bit of content. 11 levels which isn’t too bad. There is some emptiness in the levels, but I’m using the “Minimalist” excuse to say it is supposed to be that way.

Buggers!

Check it out HERE.

And…. finished!

Well, not really finished, lots of gaping holes concerning controls and collision detection, and more content, enemies, points etc…

But for my very first game i think i did an okay job.. it was a fun weekend, i learned a lot about programming and java, and i got something to work on in the future..

My Entry, minimalJump, can be found here:

First

Tools i used:

– IntelliJ IDEA

– Slick2D

– sxfr

– bxfr

– Paint.Net

– Tiled

– Pickle

– autotune-r

It’s a 2D-side scrolling plattform labyrinth with a hidden ending. It’s collision controls are kinda off, but best i could do in that time..

If you are interested in the Source, it can be found on my github (https://github.com/Xatulu/LudumDare26)

And for some entertainment: http://starlogs.net/#Xatulu/

See you in the next LD, congratulations to everyone else who entered!

Pilot & Command is Finished!

I still need to have one or two final test playthroughs in case there’re any final little bugs but I’m pretty pleased with everything.  I got most of what I wanted done and I think the game is pretty fun to play.  It’s short enough to play through in 5-10 minutes and yet does get challenging towards the end.  It’s possible I’ve made it too hard as I’m so well practised at it from testing.  I often make that mistake.

Boss.

Boss.

There were a few things I didn’t get around too, although these really amount to polish.  Animation of the ship when moving up and down and a few simple frames of animation per enemy would have made a huge difference to the feel of the game.  Additionally parallax scrolling on the backgrounds, which I found way too tough due to the way I’d implemented the motion of the ship, would have been awesome as well.  I split up the background tiles in anticipation of achieving parallax but it was too fiddly to get in in the last minute.  It would also have been great to have something that aided the player (such as ground tanks) that could only fire when not affected by the Minimalisation.

You’ll need to have Java to play it

Download the JAR file (recommended)

Play the applet (Performs poorly)

return “DONE!”;

Finally done! Woah, such an awesome feeling I must say!

The game can be found here, Click Me

Tools I’ve used,

  • IntelliJ IDEA
  • Slick2D
  • bfxr
  • Audacity
  • Photoshop CS6
  • Pickle Editor

Plus, my game includes Potatoes (If not many!), so here is a seal of potato approval.
You’re totally free to use the Seal yourself!

Mini-gun. My first LD48 game!

Mini-gun

Mini-gun

This is my first time participating in Ludum Dare. I didn’t think I could manage to make a game at this timeframe, because I have never actually tried it before.

Get the game here

Use WASD to move and click to shoot at the enemies.

Made with Haxe Flixel, Photoshop, FL Studio and bfxr! Enjoy

Centroid — an HTML puzzle-ish game

Just finished my web game, Centroid! It’s sort of a puzzle game; the objective is to find the center of mass of objects on the screen. I am not sure if it’s too easy or not. ;P

Screen shot 2013-04-28 at 6.14.50 PM

You can try it out here: http://gdriv.es/centroid

This was my second time participating in LD48. The minimalist theme was helpful since I didn’t have too much time to work over the weekend.

I look forward to playing all the great games I keep seeing posted! 😀

ASCII 219 Lives!!

Just made it in time. ASCII 219 (block cursor in ascii code) is a platform game where you play as the simple text cursor.

Keeping with the minimalism theme, you only control the game with one button, the space bar. Play and you just may find out this little text cursor is on his journey.

The game is written in Java using the box2d library. I’m just blitting pixels here, no engines or graphics libraries.

I also used Paint.NET and sfxr.

My live stream videos are here… http://www.twitch.tv/caprockgames

And my entry is here… http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=14045

Finished and submitted

I just finished and submitted my first Ludum Dare game :)

ld26-1

Code: C# + Monogame

Music: WolframTones

Graphic: Paint.NET

I didn’t have time yesterday, so I had to finish the game in around 12 hours.

I had a lot of fun today and I hope I can participate next time too.

I didn’t think I would finish

It’s done…

http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26/?action=preview&uid=22219

For now just people with mac can try, but since it’s SDL it won’t be hard to compile on windows – As soon as possible I’ll update.

I’m out

Unfortunatly i have only been able to work on my game on saturday, which leads to unfinished buisness. But besides the point that i could finish my game (yet again :P), i’m content with what i archived. I was able to almost completly port my yanecos java code base over to c#. I even wrote some unit tests using nunit, which were really helpful finding little bugs and flaws in design. I havent yet been able to integrate yanecos with unity3d, which i’m really looking forward to. So to sum it all up, i had fun and learned quite a bit, but could finish my game. Congrats to all of you who could, and see you next time.

And with 30 minutes to spare!

My game is done and submitted, feel free to check it out here!

This is my second Dare and it felt a lot more relaxed than LD24. Maybe I’ve gotten better at time management. Maybe it’s because I’m not dead stinking new at this anymore. Or maybe it’s just the fact that I didn’t have to make any art this time around. Either way, it was a fun ride and I hope you all enjoy the game!

And now, a nap x_x

Blue.

Finished at last!

You play the color blue and try to figure out where all the color in the world has gone, along the way you must rescue all the other colors.

Check it out here.

Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 10.25.49 AM Screen Shot 2013-04-29 at 10.29.00 AM

The game starts out pitch black. Something has happened and the color has left everything. You play the embodiment of the color blue and it is your mission to find out what happened and set things right. Since everything is black you will need to navigate the world by adding a little bit of color. However, since the character himself is a color it costs a bit of himself (in other words, his health) to throw some paint around.

I didn’t quite get to adding sound effects so there is only one short looping music track. I also had wanted to add more weapon types such as exploding paint bombs to allow you to uncover more area faster but alas it was not to be.

CaptureCapture2

That’s all folks!

Just submitted the final build with half an hour to spare. There are lots of things I would have liked to have done, but I finished all the major items and am quite pleased on the whole.

You can play Zenbox online here or download it for Windows or OSX.

sweet! good call on the execution of this theme! Zentastic!

Gameplay is up on YouTube

As I promised not so long ago, I’d have a gameplay video up!
You can play it here
…or if you’re too lazy to have a go, here is a full walkthough:

I think I’ll be going to bed now – It’s almost 3 and I have to wake up in 4 hours to go to school…

Done!

Oh wow, I somehow made it… had to cut quite a lot, but the game is completable and the major points are there.

Samus Regrets:

It is, obviously, a metroid game, but instead of acquiring upgrades to progress, Samus is pursuing a minimalist lifestyle, and having to get rid of all of her belongings.

I should have a timelapse done eventually, will probably be at least Wednesday before I have time to fix it up though.

This is awesome ! Kudos for making a metroid game, cant wait to see it. Let me know when the timelapse is up!

My first Ludum Dare, and I finished!

That was fun!

I wrote a simple Zelda-like that is actually more a Binding of Isaac-like.

Didn’t think I could finish a project like this in just 48h, but then again it lacks a lot of polish. The boss-fight(s) for instance are extremely rough.

I wish I had more time to implement enemies with more interesting patterns and also room layouts. Most of the time was spent getting the core mechanics to work, so I had no time to do more room layouts, altough the floors are semi-randomly generated.

You can get it here

Pixel Ninja.

That’s right, Pixle ninja is ready.
You are a ninja (Made of pixels).

That minimal enough for you?

Touch Blocks, Avoid Spikes – Finished

With 11 minutes to spare. Right now there’s only a windows executable and LOVE file but I hope to add a Linux and Mac version at some point. Relatively happy with how it turned out, though it does feel a bit too simple in terms of puzzles.

Done

Phew!  That was close.  Things were going along smoothly and I was about to add some more features when… I decided to deploy my game to another machine.  With only two hours left before the deadline, I was seriously worried.  But I got it working!

screen2

I’ve learned many lessons while competing in my first Ludum Dare contest.  Among them:

  1. Build at least one complete game with your game engine of choice before trying to use it in a competition.
  2. Build games for the Web.  Last minute deployment issues are not fun.

I’ve ruthlessly cut down on scope and sacrificed code quality to finish this, but it’s done, and that’s what counts.

Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.

Yeah, submitted.

Finally i submit my entry, i couldn’t work to much, just a few hours to make something simple.

Fortunately the theme help me and makes me focus in a simple gameplay and keeping it minimalistic.

I really enjoyed making this game, even if my prefered language is not Flash as3, but it’s easy if you know java and if you have some experience making games.

This is the timelapsed video: Ludum Dare 26 Timelapsed

i’m @jhonpi on twitter.

Last fixes

The smallest fix: making sure the inventory is workable

I would rather have implemented something completely new! No time though. 10 min left! I CAN DO THIS!

Finished! Woot!!

What can i say guys, this was tiring , But MAN, if it was worth it!

It’s not the time for a post mortem, since here is 4 A.M. and i will shut down in a few minutes. I just want you to know that i had a lot of fun doing this game and, surprisingly enough, managed to make it fun ( at least for my standards xD).

I fell in love with this theme, since it pushed me to try a new design style for my project. In fact, i don’t use any preloaded image, and it’s all drawn into the canvas. The result is pretty fast even with a considerable amount of entities on the stage.

But hey, less chatting, since i am almost dead. let me know what you think of the game, and remember to write your scores on the comments! Cheers!!

Escape Shaft is done!

The game came out amazingly well and I’m really happy with the final product. I even included sounds and music! :)

This is my best Ludum Dare entry yet. I can’t wait until next time when it’ll be even better! Feel free to check it out here: Play

Escape Shaft SS1

I’m a sleep-depraved mess, but I made a game

trAIngles is a game where you write an AI (or four of them, if you like) to control a bunch of triangles to fly around in an arena and compete. The collision detection took me like four times to write, and all of my AI’s are terrible because I haven’t slept more than three hours since friday morning. Make sure you read the readme so you know what’s what, and let me know if you make an AI that doesn’t suck at it. Alright, off to bed.

Exception: Finished!

First the good news: my second LD game is finished! Now the bad: for some reason the city generator is broken in the html version but works fine on the desktop. Don’t know what that is all about …

Still – the game is ready and wants to be played.

Building a shape. But where is the potato?
